17 - After 15 games last season, Chelsea were 26 points ahead of Leicester - they now find themselves 17 behind. Swing.

43 point swing over last season...

More boring, boring United.

ETA - there were several scoring chances - especially for WHU, but good lord it's not a good watch

Murray was offsides there.
No - he was just on - Cshill was near the goal line. Can you imagine being a Chelsea fan and getting season tickets starting this year?
Right but only Cahill was back there, theo was well forward so there would need to be a second defensive player back there for him to be onside.
Really hard to tell from this angle -but maybe baba played him onside  (looks offside to me)

they showed the replays over and over- including the cg line... he was off, regardless of what the commentators said.

Yep - Joe pointed out that I don't know the rule :bag: I thought it was just the last defender. I'm surprised the announcer said he was on after hearing Joe's explanation - it did seem obvious.

US Soccer had to cancel todays womens friendly in Hawaii due to field conditions. I thought it was weather related but it was not according to this pic. What idiot thought this was going to be playable with out players getting hurt?https://mobile.twitter.com/JulieFoudy/status/673491296653352960/photo/1
Is that the same field where Rapinoe injured herself?
I know she blew out her knee in training on turf in Hawaii so it may very well be the same field. I think her injury made it much easier to cancel the scrimmage.

What I can't understand is that I know grass has this issue when laid on top on turf, but what is the turf being laid on top of in this specific case?

Looking at the pic there is no way that is a full time turf surface and looks like it is temporary but what is it installed on top of?

Great counter by Newcastle to seal the game.

That stadium is always fantastic to hear at full roar.

What was that defender on the line doing? Looked like he wasn't aware he was allowed to kick the ball. Tried to save it with his knees.

I know this is going to come across as negative and I apologize in advance for that but the quality of this match so far is not convincing me to jump in to the MLS with two feet just yet. I'll be all in when Atlanta F.C. starts though. I will say the first 20 minutes of this match was more entertaining than United's last 5 matches combined.

no need to apologize. This is exactly what MLS is. It is not high quality (and you would have to look far and wide before you found anyone who ever claimed it was), but it is honest and entertaining.

Some tidbits from the MLS Board of Govenors meeting this past weekend

1) MLS will shut down for 2 weeks next summer during the Copa America

2) The owners agreed the league would expand up to 28 teams with no time table set for teams 25-28. They expect to be at 24 by 2018.

3) The owners discussed enhancing TAM (the new allocation money system they put in last year that a lot of teams used quickly). They did not announce the exact changes but every one seems to think it will be increased and broadened.

4) They decided to reduce the temperature threshold for water breaks.

5) If a player decides to sit out the All Star game for an injury, he will be required to sit out the next league match. It is obvious the sponsors and tv partners are not happy with how many players are skipping their key event.
