Euros:

Group B: England, Russia, Wales, Slovakia

Group C: Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Northern Ireland

Group D: Spain, Czech Republic, Turkey, Croatia

Group E: Belgium, Italy, Rep of Ireland, Sweden

Group F: Portugal, Iceland, Austria, Hungary
Conflicted...Italy & Ireland have been drawn in the same qualifying group again at a major tournament...with which grandparents does my loyalty lie? Group E is quality, with Belgium & Ibrahamovic also.

Southampton is now six points out of 18th. With Spurs and Arsenal coming up, it's time for me to be officially worried.

It's an amazing year in PL with two more surprises today.

fun stat

=========

More than anything, there is something delightfully absurd about studying the league table and realising, almost implausibly, Leicester have spent more days on top (17) than Manchester United (10) since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement two and a half years ago

Champions league knockout draw (oh arsenal..,).

Gent v Wolfsburg

Roma v Real Madrid

Paris St-Germain v Chelsea

Arsenal v Barcelona

Juventus v Bayern Munich

PSV Eindhoven v Atletico Madrid

Benfica v Zenit St Petersburg

Dynamo Kiev v Manchester City

Good draw for Atlético. This is why coming out first is pretty meaningful.

Arsenal can now focus on domestic games entirely... Although Barça has looked very vulnerable in the last few weeks, they still have patched that leaky boat by late Feb when the next round of games for CL are slated.

PL Europa league matchups:

Fiorentina - Tottenham

Midtjylland (conquerors of Southampton) - Manchester United

Augsburg - Liverpool

Funny, I watched Augsburg beat Schalke yesterday in stoppage while the Klopster was celebrating that big home point against West Brom.

Yeah, you know they weren't celebrating, right?

There's been a weird reaction to this

Barca have looked vulnerable but they only have 2 games left until they are allowed to once again sign players.

It was pretty awkward and funny.

I love how either Gent or Wolfsburg will be in the round of 8!

PSG has to be happy with that draw, right :oldunsure:

It's normal in Germany where the crowds are 100x better than England. It's a thank you to the crowd, not a celebration of the game.

And Benfica or Zenit.

It's fun to make fun of Arsenal and Chelsea, but if I'm Barca or Bayern, I'm just as annoyed at the draw.

Poor Wales :(
Seems like a decent group for Wales to me. England is probably the weakest 1 seed. Russia and Slovakia are top 30 type teams at best (I know Russia has done well since losing Don Fabio, but what's their last really big win in a game that matters?). Group A and Group E seem objectively tougher. Only Group F seems objectively easier, IMO. B, C, D seem to be right in the middle.

That presents its own problems. Let's assume that Turan will integrate quickly as he's been training with the team for months (although it still took Suarez some time to get on the same page in games). Anyone else they sign is going to have to integrate into the team. Do you mess up the chemistry? Just bringing Messi back in has returned Neymar and Suarez to earth a bit.

Pretty sure that goes without saying....

I'm not sure I understand where that comes from. If we just look Euros and World Cups in the Ronaldo era, here is what we get.

2004 Euros - Finalist (losing to underdog Greece at home)

2006 World Cup - Semi-Finalist

2008 Euros -- Quarter-finalist (eliminated in a great game by Germany on a blatant push in the back by Ballack)

2010 World Cup - Lose to eventual champion in the first knockout round 1-0 (finished second in a group with a very good Brazil side that was upset by the Netherlands)

2014- World Cup -- Eliminated in the group stage

If we go back to 2000 and catch the "Golden Generation" era we add another group stage embarrassment in the World Cup in 2002, but also a Semis appearance in Euro 2000 (winning a group with England and Germany).

Not having a major international trophy will probably be a black stain on Ronaldo's career, but I think Portugal has probably punched a bit above its weight in major championships. Prime Ronaldo's best international teammate has probably been either Carvalho, Pepe, or Joao Moutinho. Almost any great has had a better second banana.

Beautiful cross by Mahrez.

Leicester City is one of the stories of the year in Europe. Home fans are going bananas. Hard not to root for them to go the distance...
