Sky Sports reporting Zlatan to Man U on a one year deal confirmed.
not so fast...

One German club has offered Zlatan Ibrahimovic the chance to run a monarchy.

The sought-after 34-year-old striker, currently without a contract, could become the king of the city of Oberhausen, should he sign with local club Rot-Weiss Oberhausen, who have offered a two-year deal.

That deal comes with the chance to head a newly-instated local monarchy, and also have a beer named after him. They have also offered to reopen a local swimming pool for Ibrahimovic’s personal use.

In a statement, the club referred to him as "God," and it gets more and more ridiculous.

"In a football province like Oberhausen, there are a few things which other places wouldn't have," club president Hajo Sommers told German broadcaster Sport1,according to BBC.

"If he wants to expand his horizons, let him come."

Is this the Copa thread?  Post game Mexico - Uruguay was a mess... how can I find out if Muslera will be suspended for hitting the ref?

Got two tix five rows behind net in the Liverpool supporters section for Liverpool/Roma in St. Louis. :excited: :pickle:

Presale started today (Code: RELEVANT16 if any of you blokes want to go).
I probably shouldn't like Liverpool, just because Gator's first ever response to one of my post's was "your face is merda"...the last time Liverpool & Roma faced off in a friendly (Boston '14), but the rest of you 'poolians seem like decent enough fellahs, so F that guy.  Now, I will definitely be singing another tune come August 1st, because...you know..." amistoso= serious business.

Kafka = Roma guy, right?  I may start following them in a tertiary manner to follow Becker.

P.S. thoughts on that non-goal from Saturday?

Yup.

My admiration for Roma is very recent, mostly because I hope to go to Olympico when I go to Rome on a religious pilgrimage in early 2018. But I've been a 'Pool fan for the better part of a decade, when I decided to start getting into the BPL.

So, when we went to Italy for a few days the previous December, we picked up an AS Roma bag and ball for my son.  It's been his backpack for school for the last year and a half.  After coming to my senses when trying to choose a BPL team a few years ago, I left Chelsea and have been rooting for Liverpool since.  Couldn't have been a more ideal team selection for exhibition here.

olimpico isn't that great, IMO. none of the olympic stadia are... because the track puts the seats further away from the field.

eta: I started to follow Roma only because of Bradley. without him? FORZA INTER

The renditions I've seen of West Ham's modifications of the London Olympic stadium don't have a track but there's still a lot of dead space behind both goals.  I believe London wants to have it both ways; lease it out to West Ham for football but still have it available to host big track & field (athletics) events in the future.

One recent track & field stadium conversion that really worked for soccer is the Etihad in Manchester.  They lowered the field and put in an extra ring of seats before Citeh arrived.  That probably wouldn't be practical for an Olympic stadium with its much larger capacity but was very successful for a 40K venue in Manchester.

Pretty big news if this comes to pass

============

According to a report on ESPNDeportes.com, negotiations between CONMEBOL and CONCACAF officials to merge the Copa America and Gold Cup tournaments into one competition are nearly complete and would result in one championship for the Western Hemisphere that would take place every four years and would be held in the United States.
whoa.

was thinking they'd join it, but that it would still rotate around.. but yeah- have it here.

and #### canada

If we merged the confederations completely, the South Americans could help us improve our football skills and we could help Argentina with voting math.

Fortunately, Roma are in the process of building their own Stadium, which is huge because they won't have to share revenue with the city or those Laziale merda faces.  Private ownership of stadia is a huge problem in Italy, with only Juvemerda & Sassuolo exclusively owning their stadiums.  None of the Italian stadiums have been significantly remodeled since Italia '90, & this has been a serious impediment to Italy hosting a major soccer tournament since then. The whole situation reeks of merda.  You guys should check out the plans for the new stadium; it's pretty impressive.  I'd provide a link, but you know...I'm Kafka the #######, & I don't know how to properly "link",  copy&paste, deal with quote boxes, stay sober...etc,etc,etc....

Bruno Conti quietly sheds a tear.

I'm not old enough to have anything to say about '54 Hungary but the '97 Brazil team is the best I've ever seen.  They were so explosive offensively - and two rocket left legs in Rivaldo and Carlos.  Incredible depth in strikers - Ronaldo, Romario, Bebeto.  They were really fun to watch.

Signed Allison in my Roma save on Football Manager 16 (wasn't on Roma when game started) and sent Sczezney back in a first class box to London. Been a great move so far.

Do think the Copa/Gold Cup merger would be excellent for the US.  The Gold Cup right now is pretty much a no-win situation for the US and Mexico.  Win and everyone yawns.  Lose and it's a crisis.

To do give the best Concacaf teams the chance to play that caliber of tournament between every World Cup, without sacrificing their chance is World Cup qualification, would be awesome.

What does CONMEBOL get out of this other than money?
I think it is actually a financial hardship on some the countries that have to host.  So they get money with out the possible risk.  I also assume much like this Copa, that they don't have to qualify, all ten teams will get in every time.

If this does happen (a merged Copa), I would assume the two finalists will get a bid to the Confed Cup.

It is probably decades away, but if this does happen, it would be the first major building block in merging the two regions.

Its always seemed somewhat odd that we have 40+ member countries and CONMEBAL only has 10. At least the US could reasonably hope to regularly qualify for a merged Copa, but for several CONCACAF teams this would mean going from being an underdog participant in the Gold Cup to watching the Copa on TV every 4 years.

would they keep the confeds separate- and give each of the top placed teams from their respective confed a spot to the Cup?

yes, this is a significant downside.

And that downside is doubled since the Gold Cup happens every 2 years while the Copa will happen every 4.

I don't think the US or Mexico will ever have to qualify.  I assume the US is only going to agree to host this every 4 years if US and Mexico are certain to be in it.

Financially the tournament won't work with out Mexico, US, Brazil and Argentina, assuming they want to stay away from double headers again like they did this time.

While the competition will be higher for the one tournament, this merge also gives the US less competitive games during a cycle.

The CONCACAF minnows have a lot of votes  I don't think anything happens to the Copa or WC qualifiers unless they get paid off.

No guarantee the combined tourney would be 16 teams.  But even if it were, if COMNEBAL lost 2 teams, CONCACAF would only lose four teams to the Gold Cup.
