that VEN goal was... audacious

and btw, the GK save on the original shot was amazing.

Cavani...  I saw him miss an absolute sitter in the first half (a-swingannamiss)- but he missed another in the 2nd, right?

 
I suppose it depends on your definition of the sitter.  The clear chance n the second half was after he made a great dribble past three defenders in the box.  He then missed near post when he absolutely should have scored.  I think of "sitters" as balls served up on a silver platter that you miss.  Not necessarily bad misses on chances you create.  But it was bad.

The second I wouldn't classify as a sitter.  The ball fell, he had a fraction of a second to get there before the keeper.  And I'm not sure that even if he had his feet right, he'd have been able to poke it under or chip the keeper.

I just bought my tickets to the Swansea-Charlotte Independence exhibition game.  I really thought my first time seeing a Swansea game live would be in Wales but I'll settle for a match in my hometown.

ETA- details still sketchy but named as someone who procured underage prostitutes against their will. Iker Munian also involved.

is this the first one you're talking about? I missed that- not really dribbling by three defenders, but nice move to open up space and then a pretty bad miss

but I'm talking about another play in the first half where the ball was on the right side of the box... IIRC, after the VEN defender mistkenly "cleared" a soft 5 yard pass to an URU forward, who then hit it across... maybe bounced up to a URU player on the left side of the goal who put it back to Cavani in the middle of the goal who swung-annamiss with his left on a first time try.

I think the story was still fluid when these came out - I think there was an expectation he would be sent home.  But he has not actually been sent home.  Supposed to hold a news conference later.

 
Manchester United and Spain goalkeeper David De Gea on Friday denied reports that he allegedly arranged a sexual encounter in 2012 between two Spain under-21 players and two women in a Madrid hotel, which is being investigated by police as part of Spain pornography case.

The news comes as the European Championship is about to start with Spain due to play Czech Republic on Monday. The statement by a witness was made to during an investigation of former pornography impresario Ignacio Allende Fernandez, known "as Torbe," who was arrested in April 2016 and is accused of crimes including sexual exploitation, sexual aggression, human trafficking, child pornography, extortion, blackmail and tax fraud. This testimony comes from a minor, whose identity is protected, and has not been confirmed.

"I am more surprised than anyone about this," De Gea said. "Of course I am staying with the team. I have great support from my teammates and am even more looking forward to this Euros now. It is something false which has come out in the press, now in the hands of my lawyers. This gives me more strength to train more, to help the team however I can."

De Gea said he had been playing computer games in his room when made aware of the reports in Spain, which linked him to a case involving pornographic videos which had been shared among footballers. He said he called his family to say there was nothing to worry about as the stories were untrue.

"I was in the room on the PlayStation and heard the news," he said. "Above all I wanted to tell my family, so they know this is all false, and they can be relaxed. I remain a very relaxed guy and few things can change that on the pitch or off the pitch. I am still very relaxed, just want to train and do what I like to do. I am not thinking about leaving the camp, not at all. I just want the tournament to start and hopefully I will be able to play."

:lmao:   lol..I rocked the Diadora with the dago stripes in the mid 80's, & late 80's....damn, my feet still hurt....my Mom let me upgrade to Patrick(s)? when the stitching finally broke...my Dad insisted I still had another year's worth out of those shoes, & he never even once watched me wear them out! :lmao:

That flap was horrible.  I had basically non-existent coaching until I was like 12 and joined the worst travel team in the DC area.  It was coached by a guy who was a former benchwarmer for the Cosmos and Diplomats as a means to get his son playing travel soccer up two age groups.  But his son was flat out awful.  Most of the team was playing at least one age group up and not good enough for the A team in the county at their own age. 

Anyway, he started harping on me to strike the ball with my laces (I always used the inside of the foot) and I was like, "I can't feel a thing on my laces, there's this leather flap there!"

 
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: ...God bless you RHE...it's so funny, because it's true!  I never knew what to do with it, always tried to tuck it away...& I was always ridiculed because I never "toed" the ball, & was considered weak- footed, & trying too hard to place passes & shots....THAT IS TILL I GOT TO HIGHSCHOOL, & WAS THOROUGHLY COMPLEMENTED ON MY TECHNIQUE!  YEAH, #####ES!  WHAT NOW!!.....(slinksaway&eatssliceofhumblepie)

Copa Mundials now for me.  Black.  I always say I'm not good enough to wear any of the colorful boots of today.  Part of the buster look so Im underestimated.  Guy on my Sunday team has a different pair of shoes to match his uniform.  Dont think ive seen him wear the same boots twice.

I think in college we had Nike one year and an unknown brand another.  Wore Umbro and Diadora grwoing up.  Patrick maybe too.  Or maybe whatever the equivalent toughskins brand is as Adidas is to Levis (never got levis growing up, had the toughskins)

 
I played D3 in college and  I was lucky enough my folks helped me with tuition but outside of that I was on my own.  Unfortunately I ripped out one of my diadora's during the season..  Like most students all my money went to beer so there was no way I was going to spend any of my hard earned money on new cleats. 

I had 3 older brothers that played so I took a quick trip home and rummaged thru the old cleats.  My feet are 2 different sizes so anything that fit my right foot was a size to big on my left. Being practical I found an old puma that fit my left foot and kept the diadora on my right.   My coach and I never saw eye to eye and when he noticed my cleats it enraged him, good god you would of thought I screwed his wife.  Being a wise ### I took them off and started to practice barefoot.   I spent the rest of the practice running laps with my mismatched cleats while the team practiced. 

 I was one of the best players(on a very mediocre team) so he couldn’t stay mad at me for long but he never stopped #####ing about my cleats.

Colin Coward claiming that soccer has now replaced hockey as part of the big 4 in America.  I don't know if that is true yet (speaking for the two sports as a whole, obviously the NHL is bigger than MLS will ever be in my lifetime) but the gap between the two sports which used to be cavernous between the two maybe just ten years ago has shrunk significantly.

That retching sound in the background is Dan Shaughnessy and Mike Francesa throwing up :)
