Who here remembers the NISL?

I remember it  fondly,  and as this article states the popularity of the NISL is probably the impetus for the 94 WC being in the US.

There are so many parts of this story that are amazing, but I'm on my phone so hopefully others will start the unpacking for me
I think you mean the MISL.  I loved the indoor game and I was of the age in the 80's where this was pretty much it during and after the NASL collaspe.

Look at the very first picture at that link.  Preki was such a god indoors :)

I have to read the article to see what they say about the WC.   It is my (likely faulty) memory that it was the 84 Olympic success in hosting the soccer tournament which really opened Fifas eyes.  Remember too that when FIFA was concerned the US was screwing the setup of wc 1994, they fixed the US Soccer election to get Rothenberg elected.   Rothenberg was the guy who ran soccer in the 84 Olympics.

I went to the old Baltimore Blast games a few times because I worked with the brother of Keith Tozer, who played and managed in MISL and is currently the long time coach of U.S. Futsal. We drank lots of beer.

                                                Walcott

             Lallana                                                         Mane

                                           Oxlade-Chamberlain

                     Schneiderlin                                    Wanyama

Shaw                     Lovren                            Aldeweireld               Clyne

                                                Boruc

That is insane....just think (unrealistically) what could've been.  :kicksrock: .

Still got Jay-Rod, though!

Loved the MISL, so much fun to watch back then.

Had season tickets for the San Diego Sockers for a few years.  Steve "The Lord of all Indoors" Zungal, "Double Dos, Triple EE" oh my god its Julie Veee, Brian Quinn, some great names.  Preki was awesome.  Sat right behind one of the goals and I caught and got to keep one of the orange game balls.  Wish I still had it.   Only championship team in SD.  Got to play pregame one time and take PKs at halftime.

my club team got to play pre-game or half-time a couple of times at the Oakland MISL team... stompers? quakes? I remember being exhausted after about a minute.

We went to see the Wichita Wings a few times.  As a youngster playing soccer it was AMAZING.

I have no idea who the players were, but I remember the intro's, the orange ball, the constant scoring, and sitting in the nosebleeds every time.

The videos in that article are awesome.  The 80's hair on those players and the 'graphics' for the videos were priceless.

i remember the Sockers "One for the Thumb" video.  Wow.

Tozer is probably the most famous soccer related person associated with the soccer wasteland of Milwaukee, WI, narrowly edging out Milwaukee native Jimmy Banks, who played for the USMNT at Italy '90 and is current coach at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (honorable mention to Brian McBride's one year stint at the Milwaukee Rampage in the early 90s.) Tozer coached our local professional indoor team, the Milwaukee Wave, for over 20 years, winning multiple championships in various iterations of the NPSL, MISL and now the MASL.  My son's current U13 coach played for the Wave for over 10 years, is their all time leading scorer and has his number retired (Michael King scoring his 700th goal).  We love going to indoor games. Its one of the best bang for your buck entertainment values in town.

I'm gonna try to get the family there this season.

Other than Bayern at the top, the Bundesliga table looks very strange today. Rasenballsport Leipzig, Hoffenheim, Cologne and Herta all in the euro spots up top, while Wolfsburg is in the relegation zone, Bremen and Schalke just 1-2 points clear and Gladbach, Leverkusen also in the bottom half of the table.
