Boy Bayern #### the bed today in the Pokal semifinal.
Martinez makes a stupid mistake to give up the first goal.  They gather themselves and are up 2-1 at the half, and could have been 3 or 4.
In the second half they missed a couple of gimme shots, then got lazy on defense and lost 3-2.

ugh

Completely unrelated to anything, but just wanted to humble brag that I'll be the public address announcer for Notre Dame vs Mexico U-20s this Friday.

Look forward to butchering Mexican names for not just the men's team, but the women's team, too.

Only one soccer guy has been hit so far in the great ESPN purge of layoffs

I have been meaning to say this for a while - I know I knocked the espnfc web site, but I really kind of like the espnfc TV show.  I only catch the clips they post on-line, but I like most of the conversations - seems like they have a good mix of people.  I find a lot of it humorous, and reasonable takes from a variety of sources.  Glad none of them got laid off - have to assume that since this was relatively new programming, they are all on reasonable wages...

What a week. Robbed in Madrid and then completely shoot themselves in the foot to lose a game they had in control. Despite winning the league, I'm sure there is some #### hitting the fan in Munich. Carlo will get another year, but the pressure will be tremendous. Alonso and Lahm will be gone, Robben and Ribery are well past their prime. I'm sure they have talent in the pipeline, but I'll bet they will be very active this summer.

Agreed, it should be an interesting off season.

Now they have to concentrate on the next four weeks.

Me too.  I just can't stand that smug, freckled Anglophile that hosts it.  I always feel the not-so-sudden urge to punch him in the face.  "Well, obviously Sunderland would manhandle the likes of Juve, PSG & Bayern.,,because they're Ainglish; but I'm not so sure about Real or Barca.  What say you, Shaka?"

He's ESPN's version of Bein's Jeremy St. Louis(?)...

Atlanta United sold out again - 45k for this Sundays game
The east is really weak this year imo.

The one big surprise in Orlando is almost certainly going to sell Larin this summer and no one else looks good at all.  I see no reason why Atlanta can not go pretty far this year.

Me and my oldest will be there.  I think it was mentioned previously but there will be some more games at Bobby Dodd with the MB stadium issues but we should be getting more of our season tickets cost back.

Bigger Derby this week?

Manchester Derby - winner moves a step closer to a top-4 finish, loser faces an uphill battle.  (Draw probably puts the most pressure on Liverpool)

North London Derby - Spurs win keeps them in the title race, Gunners need a win to keep slim top-4 hopes alive.  Oh, and Spurs win guarantees they will finish above Arsenal for the first time since 1995...

I would put this in the funny things your kid says thread but only a couple people would get it so Ill post here for better effect.

Telling my 8 year old daughter that we got tickets in July to see United play against the Galaxy.  She has been wanting to see them live for awhile now.

Me: We got tickets to see United in July!

Her: REALLY? YAY!!!!

Me: Yeah, we got tixs for you, me, grandma, auntie and uncle.

Her: Uncle?  Isnt he an Arsenal Fan?

Me: Yeah, but with the rest of us going he will want to tag along.

Her: Can we kick him for being an Arsenal fan?

Me:  :lmao:  SURE! You go ahead!

North London Derby can't be any worse than the Manchester Derby, can it? If I didn't have De Gea as my #FPL captain, it would have been a complete snooze fest.

None of the above.

So sick.  And Philly can't muster 20k.
Soccer is huge down here and we have a really large Latino community (haven't seen recent numbers but based on previous data I'm guessing approximately 1M Latinos live in Atlanta metro) - that definitely doesn't hurt the attendance.

I'm apparently off by about 50% on that - closet to half a million after doing some digging.  I know I've seen numbers closer to 900k so not sure now but either way it's a lot of potential fannies in seats.

I'm jealous.

I went to the opener at Bobby Dodd with my 4-year old son.  I'd say it was < 50% Latino.  Popularity of soccer around the suburbs is huge.
I wasn't implying that's the only reason - that's why I started by saying that soccer is huge down here but even if it's 25% that's still  around 10k people.

I'd be surprised if any MLS team was drawing a large % of latinos for their attendance.  The only one where it might work is in SD or San Antonio or something.

Best story on Reddit today :)

===========================

Swansea City legend Lee Trundle came out of retirement in August to sign for Welsh Football League Division Two side Llanelli Town.

Since then the 40-year-old - who also played for Wrexham and Bristol City - has scored 45 goals in 26 games, including eight hat-tricks, and has helped Llanelli win promotion.

Wasn't implying they were - just said it doesn't hurt the attendance numbers.  I'll keep a closer eye out Sunday and see what my best guess is for a percent.

Spurs officially announce the closing of White Hart Lane at the end of the season.  Two matches left in the iconic 118-yo stadium: this weekend's North London Derby, and Man United in a couple of weeks.

There had been some concern about whether the new stadium and all the attending infrastructure projects could be completed by the start of the 2018-19 season, so Spurs had delayed making an official call - until today.

:(  sad day... love the classic old stadiums

In what I think is the first time ever, the Kraft's have issued a public statement about this including the initial stadium renderings.

Same here. I'm really not too thrilled with the delay. That said the atmosphere at Tech has been awesome so we will roll with it!

A lot...this guy "racially" profiles Delawareans all the time...

Just watched The Old Firm - Celtic has four games left to complete the first unbeaten season in SPL for 119 years.  They whipped Rangers 5-1.

Yep - at the game now and it's much smaller % than I would have guessed.  At best 5% and probably lower.
No idea what the story is now, but DC United used to have a huge contingent from the El Salvadoran and Guatemalan community.  I'm pretty sure La Barra Brava and La Norte (no idea why they split off) are still around, but it's been a while since I was at the stadium.  For most games they'd fill three or four sections (a couple thousand people?).  Throw in others outside the supporters section and I'd guess maybe 10-15% of the stadium?
