BBC reporting that United have agreed to a 75M fee for Lukaku.

http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/40516483
And Rooney's fee of 10m waived to clear the way for him to go to Everton.

Seems RM trying to play hardball with United over Morata may have backfired if Lukaku is confirmed.

As for Costa to AM, heard this morning that he may be willing to sit out 6 months to force the move since they can't bring him in until January anyway.  How did his relationship with Chelsea/Conte rot that far with winning a title?

Of course, if Seba really wants to channel the 11 year old Scooby look, he needs to play with his socks down and no shin guards.
they make kids wear shin guards, right?

I got into an argument with my old college team-mate, now NYCFC doctor about them. he claimed they were useless. I took the opposite approach. during the argument I realized who I was talking to and who might be better qualified to comment on such things and immediately tried to change the subject... "look- BOOBS!"

I think I was around 12 or 13 when they started making them mandatory.  Maybe younger.  I remember going out and getting the Sockguard thingy where it was soft shin pad sewed into a saddle sock because that was what was cool.  That lasted about 2 weeks before I got the cheapest, smallest little plastic POS's I could play with.

I stopped playing around high school, but I don't remember ever getting hurt as a kid.  Not even a stinger on the shins.  I then played in an adult league when I was around 40.  I got studded in the knee 3 minutes in and my knee blew up like a softball.   Getting old sucks.

I think I ended up with the smallest ones too. didn't like the stirrups, even though padding on the ankles was nice.

as the guy on the team usually handling the ball, my shins took a lot of damage over the years. also had a number of shinguards broken on tackles, so I can only imagine what those tackles would've done to my shin bones (which feel ragged... but might not be a natural state, even though I always attributed it to all the tackles). my body got the #### beaten out of it by the end of the college seasons. the semi-pro team I played on afterwards felt much easier on the body (only 1 game per week most of the time vs 2).

I've really loved having Diego at Chelsea, but I think he's been working a return to Spain for some time now. Whatever they end up getting for him is probably going to be a somewhat depressed price since its known he wants out and that he only has one destination in mind. The club should hopefully get its money back, but regardless, they had a great run with him - 2 tiles in 3 years and a ton of great entertainment.

It looks more and more like Orlando City will acquire Juan Quintero. I am pretty much a novice to the sport .I started watching and going to games when the Lions joined MLS 3 years ago. Will he be enough to turn Orlando's season around and what would he bring to the team?I hope the rumor is true Orlando can use all the help they can get now before the season really gets away from them.It is supposed to be announced by the end of the week according to this guy.  https://twitter.com/BD_ESPN/status/882803819863834625

He'd improve an already quality side, even if he doesn't play until January. As long as he's CL eligible, that'd be fine by me.

I am a bit bitter about Theo Hernández going to Real, although his brother, Lucas, is staying at Atlético.  Both came through the Atleti academy.

I hope he stays buried on their depth chart.  His challenge to break Aleix Vidal was one of the more reckless I have seen....and he didn't even get called for a foul.

The rumors are very strong. I fully expect to see him flicking snots at Sergio Ramos come January.

I'll miss you Diego, you great big beautiful stragely-old-looking-yet-juvenile-acting Spanish-Brazilian warrior *******!

It will be a more boring league without him.  I love the ****-stirrers.  Even if I knew there was a like a 75% chance he'd bait some idiot on Arsenal into a red card.

I am still the only person who remembers Giorgio Chinaglia identifying him as the future of American soccer in the 2006 World Cup studio show.  I like to think of him as an idiot since he tortured my beloved Dips.
I remember watching some early game of his- maybe with the youth nats?- where he did one play... one... and I saw a glimpse of something fantastic for the US. but then... yeah.

Costa v Kolscielny was always fun, as was Costa v Skrtl. Perhaps the highlight game of his time at Chelsea was the masterpiece game in which he put Gabriel on tilt for the red card and Kolscielny body-slammed Costa like Trump on CNN. There's no one like Diego in England anymore.

dammit- I miss skittles.

ESPN has scheduled its next “30 for 30” documentary, and soccer fans will probably want to mark their calendars.

The network announced Thursday that “George Best: All by Himself,” the story of the troubled by uber-talented Manchester United  San Jose Earthquakes star, will air Tuesday July 20 at 8 p.m. ET. It will be directed by Daniel Gordon, who also directed the 2014 documentary “Hillborough.”

I think Newly Retired is your best bet to get this question answered. Hes our resident MLS expert. The rest of us are Liverpool fans.

I actually just bought some cheap all black Pumas. :coffee:  Going to start playing pickup on a Sunday mornings.   :excited: :oldunsure:

He is a very good player and the prototype player that has excelled in MLS in recent years (young, latin, and attacking minded).

That being said, how any one player adapts to MLS is impossible to guess.  The combination of the extreme weather (both ways), the turf, the travel and the overall high fitness level of the league makes for strange variables that most other leagues do not have to deal with when trying to decide whether a player will flourish or not.

you have a fun team down there, enjoy it.

It looks like things are being built correctly off the field to create a strong foundation.   As a two decade long fan of the Revs, it looks like a completely different event when watching games in Orlando, KC, Seattle, Toronto, Portland etc etc.  compared to what I see at Gillette.
