Big change in the Detroit expansion bid!!   I think Atlanta's success almost certainly has effected this move:

=========================================

The Ford family has now joined the Ownership group headed by Gores and Gilbert.   They are now scrubbing the plans to build a stadium and instead will use Ford Field which the Ford Family owns and operates as owners of the Lions.

Money will have to spent to adjust Ford Field for soccer but it would be significantly less than building a new stadium.

I should add there seems to be some confusion from the article.  There is no quote from anyone involved that they are giving up on the jail site to build the stadium.  The author appears to have thrown that line in as pure speculation.

It could be that Ford Field will be used while the stadium is being built which could allow them to start the team up sooner than expected.

I guess we need to wait for some confirmation here one way or another.  I guess the bigger news is that the Ford have joined the bid creating a massive ownership group in terms of resources.  Gilbert already owns the Cavs and Gores owns the Pistons.

Detroit bid team having quite the day. They used images from Detroit FC's fans (the team they are basically trying to put out business if they get the bid approved) in their marketing releases today and were forced to issue an apology..

Nicely done :)

what could go wrong.  The Ford Family has consistently brought Detroit a winner with the Lions... oh wait.

I believe the Judge is going to rule in the NASL vs US Soccer case today.

If the judge rules in favor of the NASL, among-st other things, US Soccer could lose the right to sanction leagues in the US.

I assume just on a preliminary injunction, right?  No way that case has progressed to the ultimate merits that quickly.

It will be interesting to see the reverberations around MLS if Almiron gets sold for the reported $20m from Newcastle.  No team in MLS has never sold a non US player for more than $4.5m* before (Stern John).

If Atlanta gets $20M from him, the represents a quick $11m profit (not including his salary) in less than a year.

I want to watch if this is just considered a one off or if other teams will see the possible value in investing in good young South American talent to try and turn a profit by selling them.

* I don't believe this includes Defoe but that was complicated because it was almost like a trade for Jozy in which transfer fees offset each other

yes, that sounds correct, can you explain what this means for now?  It can't be good for the NASL.  The decision was 49 pages.  Some of it is here in this feed.

Judge denies #NASL request for a injunction in lawsuit against USSF. Decision to deny NASL D2 status stands, a big blow for the league

NASL statement on ruling.  Seeing that this sounds like the death blow to the league, they are looking into an appeal

============

We are very disappointed with the Court's decision in denying our motion for a preliminary injunction. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of antitrust claims against the U.S. Soccer Federation and are confident that justice will ultimately be served. In light of the extreme harm this decision poses to the NASL and our teams, players, coaches and fans, we will immediately begin reviewing all of our legal options including the process for appealing today's ruling.

Peru's captain Paulo Guerrero pissed hot and will miss the playoff against New Zealand.  He is a player MLS teams have been trying to sign.

Interesting finances behind the courts decision today.

If a team wanted to leave the NASL for another league, they had to pay $2m to leave.

If the NASL lost its Div 2 status, which it did, the get out fee drops to only $25k

Question for the tactics/coaching knowledgeable...

Made it to my kid's rec game for the first time today, U-13 (he's 11).  The team actually has 6-8 players you could mold into a decent team, but they have absolutely no structure or understanding about how to play as a unit.  Anyone know of a good resource that demonstrates stuff like that?

Kyle Martino is running for USA soccer president.

So I state right now that if under my leadership USMNT fail to qualify for 2022 WC I will step down, likewise if we fail to make QF in 2026

And, so it begins:

Kinda sorta interesting article ranking distance covered and sprints made by EPL team and player.

Guess which parked bus is last as a team? Interestingly, they have a player ranked second...which means the rest of them have run even less.

I wonder if he will be able to bring Matic back to Chelsea with him ;)

Out at my daughter's game last night.  U10 AYSO Girls.  She won her division and was playing the winner of the other division for the title.  Winner gets to play other local area AYSO winners in January, so they are all nervous and excited.  Our girls start strong up 2-0, 3rd goal called back for offside, then a fluke goal the other way followed by the leveler makes for an exciting finish.  Shots, keeper saves, clearances, parents cheering and everyone enjoying the game.  Ends 2-2 and its getting dark.

WE ARE GOING TO PKS!

Now I love PKs.  Love when games go to them, will turn on most games if they go to PKs and I haven't been watching.  But let me tell you, nothing more stressful then watching your 8 year old involved in PKs.  Esp when they really haven't practiced them at all.  During the season my girl took and made 1 and was in goal for another (she did not save it).

Opponent goes 1st.  Our keeper makes the save!
My daughter steps up.  GOAL! 1-0

Other team next, Our keeper makes the save!
Our team (our keeper takes it).  GOAL 2-0

Other team next, GOAL 2-1
Our team.  GOAL 3-1

Other team, Our keeper makes the save!

CHAMPIONS!

damn stressful.

Watched a U9 girls playoff game a few years ago inbetween my sons games that went to PK's. They went through the girls twice until they go t a winner, one of the most dramatic things I have seen in youth sports and one of the most heartbreaking for the team that lost.

Great story B-Mav.  Just noting, my son's last games of the fall season are this weekend, and half the boys will be wearing full training suits out there with hats/gloves and still be shivering. Kickoff temps likely in the low 30's for the morning games.  Most parents will just hang out in a bar or coffee shop near the field till its over.  I make my son play the tough guy with bare legs, but his mom insists I allow a long sleeve base layer under his game jersey and a hat.  Indoor/futsal starts later this month.

Yeah socal is year round.  Couldn't imagine the cold out where you are.

What exactly are the problems at Man U these days?
Lack of Pogba, Mkhi being a poor link from mid to attack lately, lack of use of Mata, crazy notion that Martial and Rashford cant be on the field together, Jose watching a different game then the rest of the world (praising Fellaini as having a good game when he gave Chelsea two perfect passes at the top of the box and got booked)...

Herrera and Matic together mean two holding MFs, meaning more defensive and isolation up top.

Man City are better, and have as much money to spend.
Phil Jones being their best defender?

Lukaku doing his best Jozy-at-Sunderalnd imitation?

With that said, I don't think there's anything more wrong at Man U than at any other team that isn't City.  And I think City has a real shot at winning the CL this year.  They're that good.

Who knows how much say Jose has on transfers.  He apparently wants Varane in exchange for De Gea, which I can't imagine the board in Manchester being thrilled about.  He also wants Toni Kroos, apparently, but who wouldn't?
