Abraham and Zouma are only on loan, not yet former Chelsea.  I would substitute Solanke or Sturridge for Tammy and dip into the Championship for John Terry in place of Zouma. Alternate at CB if you want to keep it in the PL is Robert Huth. And Jack Cork over Matic. 

 
There was no way to explain to anyone in my proximity yesterday why getting a fleeting glimpse of Sporting highlights with Bas Dost scoring twice made me giggle.

Headed to San Francisco tomorrow. Liverpool v Chelsea(Plastics) on Sat is a must watch... Any Red's pubs anyone can lead me to?

Google says Kezar Pub/Bar and it is close to Union Square where we'll be staying. 

As long as Henderson is on the bench, I predict a 5 - 2 Liverpool win. If the captain plays a reverse of that.

And bet all your money on an Ipswich draw. Love the team, so frustrated. Longest team in the Championship ever. We don't go down or up...

 
EDMONTON — Tom and Dave Fath, owners of FC Edmonton, announced today that the club is leaving the North American Soccer League (NASL) and discontinuing professional franchise operations effective immediately.

“Although we believed in and have supported the NASL business model, our franchise has proven to be unsustainable in the Edmonton market. Our decision today is further reinforced by the continuous uncertainty being forced upon the NASL by the United States Soccer Federation," FC Edmonton co-owner Tom Fath said. "We sincerely hope the road to long-term stability can be found for the NASL as the NASL pursues the lawsuit against the USSF in the US courts.”

In our hotel last night, I see some people walking around in Liverpool gear. Sure enough, the Liverpool U23 squad is staying here and ate breakfast right next to where we are. They face Chelsea today.

I told them @The Gator and @shader from the innernets said hi.

We talked about this a little in the US thread.  they were down 4-0 when he was subbed.   Schalke made two subs at that point.

McKennie was not responsible or involved in any of the 4 goals Schalke gave up but changes had to be made.   Of more concern was how much better Schalke played after the subs which could affect his playing time going forward.

Schalke coach said they were surprised by Dortmund's formation and made so many errors they were shredded and he had to make changes just to stop the flood of goals.

Salah is a brute on the ball.  Didn't realize that was such a big part of his game.

Pedro, Febregas, Willian available as subs... not too shabby.

 
Big vote in Cincy tomorrow to allow the land to be used for a stadium for MLS.   It needs 5 votes to pass.  As of now it looks like only 4 votes are certain with a few unknowns among-st the City Council.

Still seems likely they’ll have to sell Sanchez and let Ozil sign a pre-contract in January. We’ll see if they try to get cute with Lemar.

City play United, United play City and Arsenal, Arsenal have United before the return legs start.

Chelsea are done with the other top-six until after the halfway mark.

Famous last words, but Liverpool have 9th,13th,15th,16th,17th left in the first half of the season.  Definitely an opportunity to string some results together.

Yes, from a "scheduling" perspective, Chelsea and Liverpool have the most opportunity to gain ground over the next 5 games.

 
Back-of-the-napkin math showing the craziness of the upcoming month:

In first 106 days of the season, EPL teams played 13 games.

From Nov 28 to Jan 1 (approximately 35 days), EPL teams play 9 games.

Insanity.  It doesn't seem like any of the top 6 teams are struggling with major injuries right now.  Should be a fun month.

Spurs are without Alderweireld and Wanyama - creating issues in the back line and at DM.  Spurs are also without Lamela - limiting options in the attacking-midfield.  And, Dembele and Rose are still being nursed back to health.  

And, just for good measure, City are without two starters - Stones and Mendy.

He also had a baby over the weekend.  There was speculation he would make the bench Saturday but the baby stopped that.  Damn baby!

 
How bad is it going for Everton? They gave up four to this season's Southampton, that's how bad. Big relegation battle with West Ham coming up Wednesday for the Toffees.

Big Sam is probably trying to decide when to step in and save them.  9 games in 35 days must seem like a lot of work....yet if he doesn't step in quick, how bad could it get?  I bet he was hoping to get to January when they will basically play one game a week for the rest of the year..

Some serious backroom politics going on.

Last night this was reported

Oakley leaders reject FC Cincinnati stadium plan on eve of Cincinnati City Council's vote

This morning a 180 looks to have happened

Also, Oakley Community Council now plans to reverse course from last night's decision and support the stadium deal, per source. Comm council leaders expected to make that announcement during City Council meeting

 
Much like last year, it's kind of hard to see scenarios where City get caught.  United have a plausible chance.  If City plays 2 ppg over the rest of the season, then United could catch them playing 2.3 ppg over the rest of the season.  That's a modest step up for United.  But it's a huge step down for City and even a bit below City's form for all of last season.  

I think everyone else is completely out of it.  Teams like Arsenal and Tottenham are closer to teams in the relegation scrap than to City.  Arsenal would have to basically win 20 of its last 25 to have a chance.

If Cincy gets the vote today, I have no idea how MLS chooses only 2 of Nashville, Sacramento and Cincy.   All three will have what it takes to make for solid franchises and MLS can't afford to turn down a good bid imo.

This Cincy council meeting is entertaining.   

So many well spoken people on both sides of the issue.   A great deal of people are going to be unhappy no matter which way the stadium vote goes today.
