They can also bring forward 1.2 million from 2019 into '18.  So basically teams will pay down their lower cost DPs to the league max and sign more DPs.  So for instance, NYCFC can now use 1.5 million of the 2.8 and buy down Moralez for 1.5 million and have room to sign 2 DPs.  Atlanta can do something similar.

To put this in some perspective that means teams can conceivably have north of 20 million dollars in wage bills.  Take Toronto with Altidore @ 4.8, Bradley @ 6, Giovinco @ 5.6 as DP...they can now basically go out and get a 4th DP while still paying Vazquez.

we are the point now that claiming any sort of parity in the league is completely gone.

The difference between the high spending teams and the low spending teams is going to widen even more.

I know the league loves to claim the salary cap is for parity but it is clear that the cap is there for nothing more than to make sure they never pay a lot of money for the run of the mill player.

Totally agree...Toronto and NYCFC are both going to have 20 million dollar plus wage bills next year (it makes rumors like Yaya more believable).

Teams that are willing to spend the money are going to have a huge advantage over teams that don't.   And this is going to get the better teams much closer to the better Liga MX teams.

One big thing I missed is that the TAM cap was lifted from $1m to $1.5m.  That is likely to free up a bunch of DP slots all over the league.

Seattle, LA Galaxy, Atlanta, Toronto, NYCFC, Orlando and LAFC are likely to be the biggest beneficiaries of this influx of budget to spend since those teams have both the local revenue and the ownership's willing to spend.

This tweet was the most surprising to me.  I can't figure out how the Kraft's voted yes for this

Garber had exactly 0 good things to say about Columbus today in the State of the League.  He basically buried the market.

On a related note, only minutes later he was talking up Cincy (maybe even giving a clue that Cincy is in).

Garber is an interesting part of this whole situation. He’s very clearly been on the Austin bandwagon since the start. Seems like a strange position for a commissioner.

So, out of the hospital on Friday.  I had a real breakfast in the hotel today (scrambled eggs) and we ventured out to the Marienplatz and some of the Christmas Market.  It is a great atmosphere and I wish I could enjoy it more.  Took a few pictures.  I walk like an old man and have to take frequent stops.  I still can't eat any of the German food, my stomach needs bland, and that is hard to find.  My wife is toiling away trying to find a way home for us and it's looking like about 8k as the cost. (I have high school friends that completely unsolicited started a gofundme)  Last minute and needing extra room for me to move and minimized layovers seems to add up.

Since this is a soccer thread, I did get to listen to the end of the Bayern match today, on Radio via the TV in my hotel room.  Oh, and I visited the Bayern Fan Shop and bought a few things for myself.

It actually doesn't mean much.  The only guys that now qualify are Higuain, Alonso, Bedoya, Qazaishvili, and Martinez.  Guys like BWP, Gashi, Nikolic, Moralez, Aessandrini, J Dos Santos, Movsisyan, Adi (1.5 to 2 million) still can't get bought down to non-DP status (notice those are the spendier clubs), so it remains to be seen what this is actually going to do.  I mean how many second tier European or first tierish South American guys are there.  I have a feeling this may turn out to be a whole lot of nothing.  

Take NYCFC, they already have Villa, Moralez, and the 3rd DP.  Then you throw in a cheap Ring, Chanot, and Callens with Mataritta making 500K (i.e they'll buy him down) and Johnson in goal.  Then you have Harrison and Herrera both cheap with Wallace a little more expensive at 220K.  That's 11 guys already (with the only American in goal).  Point being is most of the international slots are already taken, so what can they really do to really move the needle.  This may turn out to be a lot of nothing for the first year or two.   

 
So bummed to hear about your ideal, Mjolnirs. Is be happy to contribute money or airline miles to help get you home.  Gotta think that there are didn't flights from Munich to Atlanta on Delta, and then you could even drive from Atlanta to wherever you live in SC.

 
Stanford is the first school ever to win the soccer championship in both mens and womens in the same year.

The Stanford men have won 3 years in a row, and that has only happened once before, going back to the Claudio Reyna/Arena Virginia teams of the early 90's.

Any good prospects? I know that Morris went there, but after a promising start, his upside seems limited.

 
Atlético and Barça are both still defeated in la Liga.  Atleti has one loss in all competitive matches (home against Chelsea in CL), and Barça has no losses in all 21 matches.

Too many draws for my boys and still not enough scoring, but things are getting better as they've returned to playing solid and unspectacular defensive football without the leaks at the back. The winter window can't get here soon enough as the team could do with more threat up top.

Not sure how they'll approach Europa League. I hope they rest the older players and rely on youth. You know, focus on the league.

 
Supposedly a “brawl” in the tunnel after the City-United match.

Man City assistant and former Arsenal stalwart Mikel Arteta "was left with blood pouring down his face."

No confirmation as of yet that Lukaku took a swing at Mangala but missed and punched De Gea in the nuts instead.
