get an American woman with a family history of twins, toss her some fertility drugs and some Zlatan.... celebrate one batch by having another.  She pops out 10 kids and they start training.

Then we'll have to go with plan B: Zlatan will have to father a few kids.
Zlatan already covered this idea  :lmao:

"I have a wife, I got my two kids. If I would be single I would spread some investments here in the U.S. and you would have future legends in the soccer. But sorry I'm already occupied by my wife and my two kids," Ibrahimovic told Patrick.

I'm mostly serious about wanting THE Zlatan to coach the USMNT:

1. I think at this point in US soccer development, Zlatan perfectly describes the biggest gap between us and the rest of the world: pace. Not foot speed as much as speed of thought. I don't know if that can be taught, but if anyone can, my bet would be on the guy who at least knows what it is.

2. He is as 'American' in his background as anyone born in the U.S., which should make him instantly relatable; plus, his 'street cred' in the game commands respect from the players.

3. No hyperbole, he has succeeded everywhere he's gone, and great players moving into coaching jobs with little to no coaching experience has been done.

Where we are now--closing the gap with the rest of the world as far as infrastructure goes and more talent starting to come out of it--I think we have nowhere to go but up, so why not roll the dice a little?  Look where we got with a 'credible' coach in Klinsmann; Zlatan could do no worse, and I think due to where he comes from and how he is, he would have a better chance of success than JK did.
Literally every word of this could have been said about Klinsmann.

Damnit, I just realized that I am, in fact, pissed about the US Champions League tv coverage this year.

Now is about the time of day when I would finally have a chance to sit down and relax with a beer or two. In the past I could tune in the Fox Soccer+ channel and watch a random replay or two.

Not this year though.

ETA: I don't even worry about missing the end of the Liverpool or Spurs games today because I figured I would catch them both tonight. Hell, I would have been happy with Galatasaray or even Barça . ### #### it.

Just coming in here to post the same complaint. TNT and TBS don't have any evening highlight shows for their new shiny sport? Total garbage. And ESPN has cut back on airing ESPNFC.

Oh hey! Univision is airing the shorten 60min versions of the games right now!

WTH is BR Live... and doubleWTH were those BR Live goons on halftime wearing?  I saw a denim button down shirt (buttoned to the top) under a flannel jacket on one dude and a frayed black jean jacket on the other.

One can argue whether he is a very good coach or not but there can be no question just his presence alone helped Atlanta sign some players that otherwise may not have signed.  If this is true, Atlanta could have some huge offseason changes coming.

Not worth starting it's own topic, but I wanted to share.

Colorado Buffs mascot shot in the berries with a t-shirt gun.  The recoil through his entire mascot body has me in tears.  Yes, I am an awful human being.

ETA:  I've watched this 50 times and can't stop laughing.

I don’t get the thing with Man City fans and the CL.  They boo the anthem, they had 15k empty seats today, and they openly claim that the PL is far more important.  Just odd.  That lack of passion definitely seemed to rub off on the players today.  That atmosphere felt like a preseason game.

now this is quite a VAR....

=========

it looks as though a San Jose player committed a handball in the penalty area, which was missed, then the Quakes went down on the counter & scored a legit goal. Ref reviews the play, goes all the way back to the handball, awards it to Atlanta and negates the San Jose goal

From down 4-1 to a 4-3 win for ATLUTD. Such a crazy game.

Wildest game of the year so far. Huge three points.

Though if I'm going to be honest, that was probably the worst use of VAR that I've ever seen. How many minutes must go by before a ref can no longer disallow a goal? He missed a handball and then 90 seconds later SJ proceeds to score a goal. No way should have taken that goal off the board.  :yucky:

JUST STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!!!

Speaking of crazy endings, congrats to you Philly fans.

Playing on the road to a Seattle team that had won an MLS record 9 games in a row, Philly went down to 10 men in the 89th minute and then pulled off a injury time winner on a huge goof by the Seattle keeper.  That unexpected three points puts Philly in a great position to make the playoffs.

Colorado and SJ are the first two teams to be eliminated from the playoffs.  Orlando should join them shortly.

Fafa's work rate is amazing to watch.  His heat map has to be solid red over the entire field.

I'm watching Ajax-Athens yesterday and Dusan Tadic is the best player on the field, yes, even better than Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar. Are we to believe Mark Hughes that this guy can't help a team that consistently struggles to get a decent touch in the opponent's box? By all accounts, he's a sweetheart in the clubhouse, too.

Btw, I haven't been around long enough to actually get the Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar jokes. Anyone?

Breaking news! The EPL is annoyingly super arrogant.

I think there are a couple TWSS jokes in here, but I'm in a hurry this morning and feeling a bit braindead.

The first ever Red Bull derby happens today in Europa League as UEFA is allowing RB Salzburg to play RB Leipzig.  Everyone is still pretending that Red Bull is not the money driving Leipzig.

Its total BS and almost zero Europa League coveralls too. They have it all now on a streaming service. I refuse to buy it. This is not how you make Soccer more popular in the US by putting it behind a paywall for people buy it. I bought ESPN+ but it was well worth it and they will show some matches on TV. But I'm not paying to watch games from a network not known for sports. It's a F'N money grab for a network who couldn't get it right with wrestling either

Also Corey Burke disallowed goal thanks to VAR

Villareal - Rangers was a surprisingly entertaining game yesterday. Good result for Rangers to get a point in Spain.

I agree with most of that, but hold on now. They got it real right with wrestling for a minute there. Not forever, but for a minute.

Monday Night Wars

Besides NWO... They made real wrestling a thing again when WWF was going full entertainment. Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit (jeezuz though)....

Alex Das Wunderkind Wright? Disco Inferno? Ok, maybe not so much those guys. But still!

Agree with the sentiment, but it should be obvious their goal isn't, and shouldn't be to make soccer more popular in the US.  Its already extremely popular. The reason this exists is because of that popularity, and this company's effort to exploit it. I haven't really figured out what I'm going to do this year, but would just say that I was able to watch enough games to keep me happy just through my Hulu subscription this week - streaming through my ipad at work.  I haven't found a decent highlight show yet.

This is a bad sign for those of us who want to see MLS continue to grow via the proactive owners willingness to spend.  If this is true, this sounds like the cheaper owners likes the Krafts have swayed enough other owners to make this change

Sam Stejskal‏ @samstejskal

I've been told by multiple sources that MLS is discussing either eliminating the third Designated Player or putting a cap on how much teams can spend on the third DP. If either change is put in place, MLS would almost certainly add more TAM.

Yeah, yeah... Liverpool fans blah blah blah.

A U-28 side:

--------Alisson
TA-A Gomez VvD Robertson
-------Fabinho
------AO-C Keita
---Salah Firmino Mane

And a 28+ side:

--------Mignolet
Clyne Matip Lovren Moreno
-------Henderson
----Milner Wijnaldum
Shaqiri Sturridge Lallana

The "older" side is darn near the starting lineup not that long ago.  And this is the first time the team has been anywhere near this deep since I started watching.

Lineup v Soton

Keita and Milner on for Mane and Wijnaldum around 60' with Shaq moving to left wing seems likely since Firmino and Salah didn't go 90 on Tuesday.

Kind of surprised Gomez is sitting -- with the midweek League Cup game ahead seems like everyone who needs one will get a break.
