How do you "reach settlement" on a rape charge? Isn't that a criminal act?CletiusMaximus said:Cristiano accused of rape. 2009 in Vegas. A settlement was reached, but the victim's new lawyers found some bad #### from the footy leaks last year.
It’s common for high profile, wealthy men to resolve sexual assault claims by agreement with the victim. Typically, the negotiated settlement involves payment to the victim in exchange for confidentiality, including an agreement not to speak with police or testify in court. If the victim won’t cooperate and testify (colloquially referred to as “not pressing charges”), a prosecutor almost certainly can’t indict. The assault itself gives rise to civil claims as well as criminal, which are threatened and then settled out of court. In this case they had a formal pre-suit mediation back in 2009. The current lawsuit was almost certainly preceded by demands and negotiations. The current lawsuit seeks among numerous other claims, a declaration that the earlier settlement agreement is void, unenforceable, mostly due to information that came out last year in the “Football Leaks” dump. How do you "reach settlement" on a rape charge? I couldn't read the whole thing. If he did this, he needs to be punished, harshly.Good article from the Spiegel, which was and is at the forefront of this story and all the Football Leaks stuff:
Football Leaks is like Wikileaks, only centered on football. They mostly release contracts, wage info and the like, but also got into things like Messi's charitable foundation, tax disputes, etc. Last year they reported on a few stories involving Ronaldo and sexual assault, including this one in Vegas from 2009. I am surprised at the lack of reporting on this, but who knows? Maybe I'm not reading it correctly.I couldn't read the whole thing. If he did this, he needs to be punished, harshly.
What is Football Leaks?
is that some sort of 6v6 type league? Everything looks too small on the field..
No inside info. Just local insight. It isn't going to happen. Nothing ever gets done in San Diego. Even if the measure gets voted through someone will sue the city and delay the progress. MLS will move on. If we take away my cynicism on that part, this initiative is being opposed by San Diego State. They want the same land to expand their campus and build their own stadium for their football team. They are billing the fight as education over capitalist opportunism. It's pretty frustrating. SDSU was on board with the soccer plan for a while, but then more developers joined them and decided they'd be better off and make more money if they cut the soccer guys out. End of the day they are both going to end up harming each other's causes enough that neither will pass and nothing will get done.
The very last part of the german article said there is no statute of limitations for sexual assault in Nevada.BREAKING: Las Vegas Police reopen investigation into an allegation of sexual assault on June 13, 2009. “Our detectives are following up on information being provided by the victim. This is an on-going investigation.”

I am cringing every time FIFA 2019 is advertised. EA is using Ronaldo like crazy in the ads.The very last part of the german article said there is no statute of limitations for sexual assault in Nevada.
Evidence is there. Waiting on an investigation and a cooperative victim.
This will be the key. Is a blank check worth more than justice? I have no idea. The very last part of the german article said there is no statute of limitations for sexual assault in Nevada.

SI has a very good summary of the legal and factual status. https://www.si.com/soccer/2018/10/02/cristiano-ronaldo-rape-allegations-kathryn-mayorga-legal-caseThe very last part of the german article said there is no statute of limitations for sexual assault in Nevada.

That was the issue the first time. The county wasn't involved when that's where most of the support would come from.I can't remember if we have any St Louis residents in this thread but it looks like an MLS expansion with a stadium is back on the table again

Almiron's dad just cleared things up a bit, telling a reporter that Arsenal are talking to Almiron's agent but have not yet contacted Atlanta.NewlyRetired said:This is probably more speculation than fact but the Spanish media is reporting the Arsenal has purchased Almiron from Atlanta and he will move over the winter break.
Almiron injures his leg in the game yesterday - he was crying as they took him off the pitch. Repeat of last season.Almiron's dad just cleared things up a bit, telling a reporter that Arsenal are talking to Almiron's agent but have not yet contacted Atlanta.
That's pretty fantastic. If they were there after the 38th matchday, that would be amazing and a wonderful thing for that city.Sevilla all alone atop La Liga @The Kansas Comet
almost every paper\rag in England says he is going to Arsenal this winter. I read earlier today he is expected to not play the rest of the regular season with the injury.Anybody have news on Almiron? Would suck to lose him at this point.
