Yep, Fulham would have clinched promotion if they had beaten Derby yesterday but they messed up, so will have to wait until Monday in the event Forest lose to West Brom, or do it themselves the day after.

Re: title vs promotion, I can only go with when we celebrated more. 16/17 it was clearly at Northampton when automatic to the Championship was sealed, I couldn't even tell you when we won the title as I can't remember. Title is something that's nice to have (that year especially, as it put us in a small group of clubs that have won all four divisions), that's it. Nobody was upset in 18/19 when the shall chance of winning the Championship went last day away to Stoke, but we were all extremely happy when clinching second against Ipswich the previous week

Looks like Ten Hag to United is almost ready to be announced.

Erik ten Hag to Manchester United, here we go! Agreement on contract now set to be completed. Mitchell van der Gaag, priority candidate for coaching staff. #MUFC Ajax & Man United in contact to discuss €2m clause - announcement timing depends on this [not today/tomorrow].

Bottom line, it won't matter what coach is there if the players don't buy in.  United needs a serious overhaul, not only of the players, but how they do business.  Hopefully ETH can get that going in the right direction. He also needs to make sure he isn't playing favorites and out of form players get sat/use the depth and bench to promote competition for spots.

Bye to Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Matic and hopefully Jones.  Not sure what they can do with Maguire.

:(

news is saying they just had twins- but the boy died in child-birth :(

sad, sad news.

It's a horrible tragedy but given CR7's recent actions with a fan I can't say I feel sorry for the guy. His Partner I do but CR7 needs to start treating people better. Maybe this is my autism kicking in or what but given the recent events of this guy me saying I feel sorry or sympathy for him would be me just lying.

hey man- I wrote something else out... because... yeesh.

I'm hoping your autism is to blame there for a serious lack of equivalency or empathy.

I basically said it probably is.
you did... and I genuinely appreciate you doing it. I wrote something else that was coming from a place without that understanding... which wouldn't have been fair.

discussing it now- do see why I mentioned "equivalency"? how knocking a phone out of somebody's hands isn't at the same level as tragically losing a child? or even in the same neighborhood or planet?

Not about just that just how this guy treats people in General. I've become friendly with a lot of different soccer people and formed a few relationships with Juventino supporters as well as some Madrid fans. Met a few people who know a few in and around their clubs. Heard a lot of not great things about CR7 that didn't really surprise me. Add in all the other media stuff you hear about him over the yrs and he's just not a guy I will be very sympathetic for in many situations. I wouldn't call him the worst human in the world but he's also the type thats not going to get the benefit of the doubt either. Nothing about jealously or a him vs Messi thing. I just don't like the way he conducts himself at all around people and if I were to become teammates with him we'd be having issues with each other constantly.

Trust me I had way worse I was ready to post here and thought better of it. I wanted to chime in, in a way to this to express how I felt but also explain why I won't say I feel sorry for the guy. Not gonna lie about something like that. His partner and other kids I feel sorry for. Him I just hope it's something that helps make him a better person in the long run and change how he is.

equivalency is still the thing here... him being a giant dirt bag is worthy of scorn (but you don't know him, and the supporters groups don't know him... wrapping that much hate into somebody you don't actually know and only read stories about... I guess is another topic). but hopefully whatever bad things you think he's done shouldn't make you dehumanize him to the point that when he suffers a tragedy your first thought is any of that so-called bad stuff and not the tragedy. he's not mussolini or hitler- he's a self-important world super-star who may act like a jerkwad sometimes.

And like I said I hope this tragedy makes helps him grow to be better in the future

oooff, this was going to be a nice signing for Orlando.  I wonder if this voids the deal some how?

[Tom Bogert] Soon-to-be Orlando City winger Gaston Gonzalez suffered a long-term knee injury in what was reported to be his final game with CA Union. Awful timing. César Luis Merlo reports that Orlando, Union and Gonzalez's agent will meet soon about the next steps here.

Harry Maguire "I wouldn't be playing every game for Manchester United in the starting 11 if I'd been playing bad every game"

Maguire was asked about dealing with criticism ahead of Tuesday's match and his response was delusional. "This season I've had some bad games, but I wouldn't be playing every game for Manchester United in the starting 11 if I'd been playing bad every game," Maguire said. "There's a reason why both managers have put me in the starting 11 every game. It's what I bring to the team, what I bring to the starting 11 , but I do also understand that I'm the captain of this club, I cost a lot of money and when things aren't going well and we're conceding too many goals, I'm going to get criticised. "

No self awareness and no responsibility.  Absolute disgrace. Definition of an entitled player.
He then follows up these comments by being out of position for 3 of the 4 goals vs Pool.

I also blame the coaches for this.  Neither Ralf nor Ole had the stones to sit him and play Bailly or Jones or whoever.

Like I said upstream, I'm embarrassed that I didn't know much about him at Bayern.  What a player.

I did not realize until recently that his dad was Mazinho who played for Brazil here in the 1994 WC.

Mazinho has another son who is a pro at PSG, Rafinha (who plays for Brazil and not Spain like his brother Thiago does)

D.C. United in talks with Gareth Bale’s reps about move to MLS, I’m told. (They actually spoke months ago but didn’t go anywhere.) Sides exchanging proposals but unclear whether It will pick up speed. DCU prepared to pay more than Wayne Rooney in 2018. Bale leaving Real Madrid

Rafinha has had even worse injury luck than his brother. Different style in that he is more attacking and direct (may have been best as a winger in Barcelona's system). He's actually back on loan in La Liga now. Makes no sense for him to be at PSG but his agent/father doesn't seem the best.

Well ETH has been announced as the new Manager of United.  So of course already reports of a team divided by his appointment and questions of "what has he won".  Does the English media do this crap for every team or just United? I mean he hasn't even taken charge and he's already a failure in their eyes.

Anyway....

ETH will have his hands full weeding out the me first mentality and getting the players to play as a team.  He needs to establish competition for positions and sit people when they are not performing, no matter who it is. Push to get business done early.  No more 2 year negotiations (not really the manager's fault, but if he is a part of recruitment, needs to push it).

Deadwood needs to go. Jones, Perreira.

Decisions need to be made on Martial, VdB and Bailly (imo their best CB too).

And by no means do they need to extend players like Lingard, Mata, Grant, Cavani to try and sell them.

Pogba is gone, let him go.  Matic wants out, he can go too.

Probably needs to keep one and move the other when it comes to Henderson and De Gea.

Then the big questions: Rashford, Maguire, Ronaldo.

Kind of wish this had happened with Losado still in charge. His insane training regimen would have had Bale in a full body cast for the World Cup.

well this is both incredibly cool and pretty awful(from a programming POV)

Yes The Sun is the worst of the bunch. They make up stuff constantly. Never will forget Mario Balotelli's introductory press conference at Milan. The Sun and other English media were there. SUN reporter asked a question and Mario called them out saying he wouldn't answer questions from a paper who made up stories of him and mocked him and insinuated they were racist as well.

But yes many of the English do this. Even during the Newcastle takeover the Media was on all different sides. Some pulling crap out of their asses that simple wasn't true just for clicks.

You'd think if a transfer was close the player wouldn't play another match with his current club to prevent injury. Talking for everyone's standpoint. Current club so they don't risk a team not wanting the player now injured and future club not wanting to take on a player injured for a higher price then they'd like to pay now

I completely missed the point on first read.

That's incredible.

Hot homer take: James Ward-Prowse should start alongside Declan Rice for England in Qatar. You never know when you might need that late free kick. And his field play has been solid, too.

Also, what does England do in goal if Pickford and Everton are relegated?

I really don't get Rice.

I know he gets a lot of love and all the teams want him... but every time (not a lot of times) I've watched him he's genuinely poor.

I’m not sure how you can’t see what teams love about him.  He’s an incredible passer…. He’s capable of dribbling out of the midfield.  He’s top 3 in the EPL in interceptions.  He’s capable of filling in at CB.

He’s been starting nearly every game for West Ham since he turned 18 and their fans adore him.  Every big team in the EPL has articles about how they want him.

cool. not what I said though.... in spite of all the love he gets- I, me, myself, don't get him. every single time I've seen him, he's been literally useless. but again- caveat- I haven't seen him that much.

I don't watch much West Ham either.  I saw him against ManU in January?  I think...  Anyway, he was probably the best midfielder on the pitch during that game.  I watched the second half of Chelsea today and thought he was poor when he came on, so those are really the only two inferences I have.

I do think, that if his name was Peja Stroyankovksi or something and he represented Romania, teams would be looking to pay $40M for him instead of $150M, so there is that.

I'm not sure he's an "incredible passer" but overall I do like his game.  And like most here, I haven't seen a lot of him but more often then not he looks a good player.

:goodposting:

Worth $150m he is not. And despite United needing a holding mf with good passing, I hope they do not pay it.

gotta say, sad to see Rudiger leave Chelsea (at least as long as CP's there). guy has been their most consistent and best player all season... and going to the even more evil empire.

Ended up not going watched the Derby at home. I ended up having a later night then expected Friday night and would've had to wake up at 7:3O in order to get to the pub in time which is like 35Mins away.
