This is interesting because I think they are in the same group in the WC and teams usually avoid playing each other in the run up but with Nations League they could not avoid it.
That being said, look at the quality of competition they are getting and then look at what the US will get in our two nations league games which will be of almost no use in preparing for the WC.

I was thinking the other day if the schedule (and rules) would have allowed that we could have sent our U20 qualifying team to play Grenada and ELS, which would have been a solid test for them in prep for qualifying and then we could have scheduled two more friendlies against WC participants.
I am very eager to see the Uruguay game. They torched Mexico so they should be a very tough game for us.

Mex vs Ecuador game was stopped last night... I understand because of the usual Mex fan BS. it's the umpteenth time they've done this, so I further assume the MEX women's team will punished accordingly. seriously... FIFA obviously doesn't care. Mex fans obviously don't care. either let them shout their BS or actually do something. maybe no Mex fans for the WC. that would be something. would suck, because Mex fans are usually pretty great at the WC, but #### them if they don't give a ####.
Hungary was forced to play England behind "closed doors" because of racist crap from a previous game(s). they were allowed to bring kids in, every 10 kids allowed an adult chaperone. supposedly close to 34k spectators for the "closed door" match. AND the kids booed England players taking a knee against racism. Booed for taking a stand against racism, by kids, in a country already "punished" (only 34k spectators) for racism.
I guess the Mex women's team will take another hit for that one too.

If Fifa was serious they'd just start banning teams from international competitions. Mexican Men's team fans have done this constantly and neither their Federation or fans care. Fifa loves to virtue signal a ton on these issues though. Qatar was already warned if they didn't allow women into matches the next time they'd face disciplinary including possible a WC ban. Qatar broke the rule again and still nothing. Fifa only Virtue Signals these things. They only care about where their money is unfortunately.
I've already repeated numerious times what I'd do about the Mexican situation. Basically TTLTR Version is next time Mexico has the chants 3 closed door matches. After that it happens again they are bared from the WC/Gold Cup and any other tournament that is played next. Mexican officials would be heavily fined with possible fan bannings.
This is just another reason why I laugh at UEFA pusnihging a Milan or Inter for FFP where you have numerious clubs like PSG and Barca who especially can barely sign new players is allowed loop holes but you punish other teams when theres obvious violations. I really don't get it honestly. However I've said for years, the only thing more corrupt then US Congress is UEFA and FIFA.

I hate the unlimited subs. The rest I would be curious about to see the effects..
I think kickins would ever so slightly raise goals per game, which the sport needs. Dribble from free kicks though seems almost meaningless since one quick short pass does the same thing today.
One thing I did learn is that this is not a pro league (this is not the second tier in Holland, which has a different name), this is an amateur league in Holland.

I assume the unlimited subs cannot be used on someone serving a 5-min penalty. I'd be curious how this plan will work (if they didn't make so many other changes all at once...).

I think it could...but the sub would serve the remainder of the penalty.
The question for me is- is the 5 minutes clock time or kept by the ref? Teams are going to stall, concacaf style, to burn that 5 minutes.

I'm on the fence with the 30 minute clock. it means somebody is now an official time-keeper, correct? we had that in college... counted down from 45 and somebody start/stop it at stoppages... but it felt a bit- cheaterish. I assume it will have very strict rules regarding what constitutes a stoppage and what constitutes game play to eliminate that.
I suppose, in theory at least, it would eliminate the need for rolling around histrionics time-wasting. a good thing.

It has long been suspected, but never confirmed, that it was the Kraft family that was the loudest voice in the room convincing many other owners that MLS could never be a selling league or be a part of the world market.

They did not fully understand the model of the world soccer market and really wanted to model MLS after the NFL in which they never would have to deal with buying or selling.
Everything changed though when the league as whole decided they had to enter the world market to stay competative and made the very good decision that if they were going to do that they had to invest in academies.
Many of the large sales today are a result of money that was invested a decade ago. Once owners saw that Dallas was producing players that foreign teams were willing to pay money for it open many eyes. And then when Fonzi was sold for $16m to Bayern, even the biggest doubters like the Kraft's woke up. It was after this that they went all in and spent $35m on a development facility, which was more money than they had spent in the entire history of the team up to that point.
And now they are starting to enter the world market themselves and can see how just a few players selling for big money can fuel the whole system to repeat itself over and over again.

South African fourth-tier sides Matiyasi FC, Shivulani Dangerous Tigers, Kotoko Happy Boys and Nsami Mighty Birds have been banned for life after being found guilty of fixing matches.
Tigers and Matiyasi were fighting for the top position to gain promotion; the former claimed a 33-1 win over Happy Boys as Matiyasi defeated Mighty Birds 59-1.
This obviously caught the attention of administrators and investigations were done, with the clubs found guilty.
What happened in the South African fourth division?
"Our investigation found Matiyasi and Nsami wanted to stop Shivulani, who at the time were leading with a three-point gap and a goal difference of 16, from topping the league so they agreed on fixing the match to prevent this from happening," Vincent Ramphago, who is the president of the Mopani region, told BBC Sport Africa.
"After hearing Matiyasi were leading 22-0 at half-time, Shivulani colluded to have Kotoko Happy Boys remove players from the field. The players who came off said they were tired, leaving their team with only seven players.
"In the Matiyasi game meanwhile, the referee gave players red cards so that ended up with seven players.
"When the teams had previously met in March, the scorelines were considerably more sober, with Matiyasi beating Mighty Birds 2-1 while Dangerous Tigers drew 2-2 with Happy Boys."
The administrator further said that many of the goals had not even been properly registered by match officials.
"We found the referee was just writing - 'player number 2 scored 10 goals, player number 5 scored 20 goals' and so on - but there were 41 own goals so how were they recording these?", he said.
'No respect for football'
Apart from the clubs being banned, the officials from the involved teams have also been suspended for five to eight seasons.
"These people don't have respect for football, and we cannot allow it to happen again," Ramphago added.
"What is sad is there are young players involved because the competition rules stipulate that each team has to field at least five players under 21.
"Our main aim in organising leagues is to make sure we groom the young footballers into potential future Bafana Bafana players."
What have club officials said about the incidents?
Mighty Birds coach Neil Thwala says he was helpless to stop the bizarre series of events.
"In the previous match we played, we were told the referee is part of Shivulane Dangerous Tigers," he said.
"We scored four goals but all of them were disallowed by the referee but then they hit the side netting and the referee said it's a goal. When we reported the matter, but we were told that the referee's decision is final.
"The players' minds were not on the game because even if they won, they knew it wasn't going to help them in any way. I tried as a coach to push them but it was difficult - there was nothing I could do."

Really loving this new Italian side Mancini put together. I only wanted him to stay because a lot of the other options weren't better. Plus I don't think not qualifying for the WC can solely fall on him as FIGC has a lot to answer for. Really loving the younger guys in the squad They're hungry and competitive too. We just need to get Donnarumma more playing time at club level.

- Throw-ins becoming kick-ins. This essentially becomes like a corner kick (essentially) but just anywhere the ball goes out. On the offensive end it seems like it will really slow the game down if they take as long to kick it in as they do on corners. On the defensive end, it will not allow teams to press throw-ins as most minnows will just hoof it forward. I hate this one and see no reason for it.
- Dribble from free kicks. They essentially already do this with short passes to a teammate. Not sure why they need this - I don't hate it, just don't get it.
- 5 minute penalty for a yellow - we've talked about this before and this is something I'm interested to see how it plays out. This could really up scoring with more 11 v 10 or even 11 v 9 and 11 v 8 scenarios. Teams will have to be very cautious about vigorous objections to the refs (yellow for a foul quickly followed by one for dissent) can drastically change the game. I like trying this out to see how it works
- Infinite subs - I have no issue with this, even allowing players to come back (think hockey lines) but it has to be seamless - if we have to wait for the 4th official for every sub then I'm not in favor of it.
- Clear playing time (2x30 min) - no clue what this means, can somebody help me out?

Nevermind - I had only skimmed those others posts - I get it now and hate it. Clear playing time is crap although I would like to see some tweaks to added time.

Astonishingly, Erwan Le Prevost (FFF Director of International Competitions) says surveillance footage from the UCL Final has been deleted. It's automatically erased unless expressly requested. UEFA confirmed an investigation within seven days but no one asked for the videos

I haven't read the rule, but for this one I imagined a futsal-style kick in where they have to take it quickly - within 5 seconds or so I think - and there's no run up.

The Philly Wold Cup committee is going wild with promoting a watch party at LOVE Park next Thursday for the World Cup 2O26 host cities. Telemundo is broadcasting the Spanish feed which is owned by Comcast which HQ's are in Philly and are a big soccer coverage body in the US. Also one of the Philly Writers who covers the Union his source who gave him the Covid UNION debacle with MLS plus the Julian Carranza news said he's certain Philly would be a host city. Don't think the committee would be promoting like crazy for next Thursday if they didn't think there was a legit shot of us hosting some matches. Going to see if any of Calcio guys from the Cafe are setting anything up for next Thursday as well.

Arlo White is taking a ton of heat for joining LIV golf as its lead announcer. LIV Is generally considered the SuperLeague of golf, with the added burden of being funded by the Saudis. The guys on the WorldSoccerTalk podcast suggested the only people defending White and LIV are Newcastle supporters!
I don't follow golf, but have read a bit about LIV and there are some similarities with SuperLeague particularly regarding the difficulty they are having finding broadcast and commentator partners. The common wisdom is that any commentator who associates with LIV will be blackballed for life from any PGA involvement. I don't think Arlo has any golf experience so we can maybe assume LIV was similarly having difficulty finding an experienced voice in the golf world to cover its league. I certainly don't blame him for taking whatever pot of gold the Saudis are paying him to do LIV. But, I won't miss him on weekends this season. He was good, but had gotten stale after so many years and I have begun to dislike his style more and more in recent years. Looking forward to Drury.

Normally I don’t chime in on these type of discussions but like I said in the golf thread, the Saudis are pretty horrible and I definitely think less of Arlo and these golfers for taking their money.
