It seems to be either the chic pick or just a hot take that Haaland will fail in the EPL.  Out of curiosity, I looked up his stats.  They are beyond insane.

Austrian Bundesliga  and Cup: 21 goals in 20 games

German Bundesliga and Cup: 70 goals in 74 games

Champions League: 27 goals in 25 games

International for Norway: 22 goals in 22 games

And note that he is still only 21!  Holy hell

I mean he is certainly not a lock to succeed, as any change of countries and teams comes with huge variables, but there is nothing in his history, at any level of the sport, that says he is going to have a hard time finding goals.

And he's going to a place with just a little bit of a supporting cast to help feed him the ball.

But they're also set up to attack via runners and movement more than a big body up front, so will be interesting to see how/if they adjust to having that big body and how/if he adjusts to being in a more dynamic offense.

Haaland is a big body but he can also fly as well.  His first step is outrageous given his size.  He won't run the channels in the same way Jesus did though, you are correct.    If he settles in, De Bruyne is going to have an insane amount of assists.

the way Haaland finishes- the entire team is going to have an insane amount of assists.

I admit that I greatly underestimated Sadio Mane when he joined Liverpool, but giving him £360,000 a week (more than Haaland!), while letting Barca pay Lewa £175,000 a week does not make a lot of sense to me for Bayern.

With the shift to 5 subs pretty much everywhere this guy proposes that it's a bad idea as it will widen the gap between the haves and have-nots.  I hadn't really considered that angle but on the face of it, I think he's right.  The benches that the top-6 in the EPL and the other tops sides around the world can put out are ridiculous.  It will be interesting to see if the gulf widens even more.

On the flip side more teams might prevent injuries and have more guys well rested. You can also maybe rest a player with a chance to sub him on in the 2nd half now without having to use one of your 3 subs.

Lille may have just screwed up the Botman deal. They agreed to a fee with Newcastle and then asked for a higher transfer fee. Botman has wanted Milan since Jan and did agree to a deal with Newcastle according to some but was waiting for Milan as he gave his word to Maldini to begin with. Lille have now pissed off Newcastle that they might back out now and Milan seals the deal. Lille tried to get both clubs to get in a bidding war but both said no.

I think it could...but the sub would serve the remainder of the penalty.

The question for me is- is the 5 minutes clock time or kept by the ref? Teams are going to stall, concacaf style,  to burn that 5 minutes.

right.

I'm on the fence with the 30 minute clock. it means somebody is now an official time-keeper, correct? we had that in college... counted down from 45 and somebody start/stop it at stoppages... but it felt a bit- cheaterish. I assume it will have very strict rules regarding what constitutes a stoppage and what constitutes game play to eliminate that.

I suppose, in theory at least, it would eliminate the need for rolling around histrionics time-wasting. a good thing.

Nevermind - I had only skimmed those others posts - I get it now and hate it.  Clear playing time is crap although I would like to see some tweaks to added time.

Personally I would love a fixed clock that turns off in the last 5 minutes when play has stopped and throughout the game for anything that would warrant stoppage time now.  Personally I find it funny how time wasting has become such a part of the sport that people defend it as part of the sport.

Did Drogba only play home games in MLS or was that just a threat or rumor at the time? I might be misremembering. Looking at Giorgio Chiellini in LA and I’m guessing he’s probably in no mood to fly to East coast games.

watching that Juve series, I was suprised by how hard the guy works, even in rehab. he might just be up for it... at least to begin.

and I think you're right about Drogba- or maybe it was the turf fields.

Not just MLS players getting pipped by Europe...

NYCFC coach, Ronny Deila, has taken the position at Standard Liege (Belgium) along with asst coach.

he was very limited.  He played some away games but only if it was on grass and if the travel was decent.

Massive MLS TV deal announced today.  First of its kind any where in the world I believe

=====================

MLS and Apple TV announced Tuesday a 10-year partnership that will start in 2023 and will result in every one of the league’s games, as well as those in MLS Next Pro and MLS Next games, streamed globally on a new channel without any local blackout restrictions. MLS is the first major sports league to go all in with a digital provider.

The Sports Business Journal reported that Apple will pay MLS a reported $250 million a year.

this is pretty cool

"Season Ticket Holder Benefit: Access to the new MLS streaming service will be included as part of MLS full-season ticket packages."

One more interesting tidbit.  Every single MLS game over the next ten years is going to be scheduled on only Wednesday nights or Saturday nights.

I assume there will be some outliers for conflicts and weather issues etc but it will be interesting to see how such a specific scheduling will work in a league that has typically scheduled games when ever and where ever.

This Apple TV deal is not exclusive.  MLS is expected to announce TV deals with ESPN and Univision for linear tv as well.

Going to be a ton of money flowing into the league.  I am expecting they are likely to make some significant signings in and around WC2026.

I seem to recall Thierry Henry doing something like that.  Maybe skipping turf games?

It seems to be either the chic pick or just a hot take that Haaland will fail in the EPL.
Maybe they think Roy Keane has a son in the league?

EPL Schedule released.

WestHam host City week 1

Chelsea v Tottenham in week 2

United v Liverpool highlights matchweek 3

Almost 2hrs till we know our Faith. I won't be going into town unfortunately. love the area they are hosting this but it seems a lot of my friends who would go can't make it out of work on time. Also I have to go with my mom to Walmart to exhange something she ordered online for me. She used my Debit card but she ordered on her account so I need to go with her do to the card holder and all. She wanted to do that after she was done work. So logistically it won't work out. Plus getting out of the city in rush hour is a ##### here. I live off a very busy street that connects to 95 that goes all the way to the SEPTA station and around that time of day its a hassle.

I don't think you're missing much.

2026 World Cup Hosta (Central)

Kansas City

Dallas

Atlanta

Houston

Monterrey

Mexico City

(No Cincy - not a surprise but :(  )

Lol so the travel complaints will be from the ones that get a game in Miami I guess since it is podded with all Northeastern cities and Toronto.

And wow - no Baltimore

-QG

So the last 2 envelopes are presumably the opener (which I figure will be Azteca) and the Final which I figure will be here in New Jersey :)

--QG

I gather than the two 5-team groups are going to have extra games in NJ and LA whereas the central will be level with pairs in the group stage.

I have some affection for it, but Baltimore just isn't a great city.

And Dan Snyder's $1000 parking dump in the middle of nowhere doesn't deserve anything either.  No surprise the DC-Balt region was shut out IMO.

It's the freakin' capital!!!

😭
I live here too Z.

Was obviously hoping for a game or two here, but am not even remotely surprised by this.  Snyder's soulless pit isn't anywhere near the city and the logistics around it are awful by design.

And I enjoy Baltimore (was there last weekend), but it's way way down the list of US cities that deserve a WC venue.

Surprising that the capital region was omitted.

Hostess had 2 extra unopened envelopes which I figured were for the opener and final.

Gotta wonder if they were thinking of going 6/6/6 and decided they just couldn't with Edmonton and Baltimore.

Atlanta isn't really a shock with how well the MLS team has drawn and the fact that it fits a regulation field.

It is funny though because of how it sticks out compared to the other cities.  Will be interesting of course to see how all the games map out.

Guessing Canada gets Vancouver/Seattle for their games given Edmonton lost out.

Mexico obviously gets Monterrey and Azteca.

I can see them starting the US out in California again.

still think it’s a better option than Foxboro, but I admittedly have a conflict of interest since Bawlmer is way closer to me than foxboro.

in other news…PHILLY!  Let’s go!!!!
