This is true, but I think, and correct me if I am wrong, if a team won their league and the Cup at the same time, only that one team went in to the next cup from their country. I only mention this because of the long dynasties of the teams back then where multiple league tities werer won in a row.

This would be an interesting discussion actually. I wonder how the stats bear out. And while they aren't the end all of any discussion they do paint part of the picture.
And not just goals/assists. goals per min, xG, all the new fun stats to see how they compare.

I would ignore the the record, it is relatively meaningless because all games are being played in the US. The records would be much more even if there were games in Mexico.

Messi's two goals were pretty last night. Problem is he probably should have had a red card before the 2nd one. Martinez flop to get penalty kick was pretty brutal. Every call seemed to go against Orlando.

The PK call was awful. I don't know if they have VAR in this competition but that was the furthest thing from a PK on a replay.

Yes they have VAR. Ref used it to call back Orlando's late 2nd goal. Ref even winked at Miami players when he called for VAR.

If they do Leagues Cup again, I hope they rethink the venues, and let teams from Mexico host. The diversity of teams in the round of 16 is not good so far.
Of the 11 teams confirmed to advance to the next knockout round, 10 will be MLS teams. The only Liga MX team that advanced to the round of 16 so far did so by beating another Liga MX team.
Liga MX teams could go on a run and balance things a little in the remaining round of 32 games to push some more teams through.

England's stated that they are going to be putting on a lot of extra time similar to the World Cup this year to try to quell time wasting, and well if tonight's Sheffield Wednesday's/Southampton games any indication, there is going to be a ton of extra time.
First half had 7 extra minutes, no injuries, a few cards.
Second half had 9 extra minutes, there were to stoppages for injuries and a few cards. Both were at least double what I would have expected.
And I don't have a great source for stats, but in the 9 minutes of extra time, I'm pretty sure Southampton had at least 96% possession and completed well over 100 passes.
For the game, they had 80% possession and last I checked completed 931 passes of 991 attempts.
That's pretty strong.
And for any gamblers out there, championship games are oftentimes lined at lower totals because it's a slog of a season, but the difference of the three teams dropped and the three teams promoted netted something like 150 goals gained and tbh Southampton probably has the strongest team in the league assuming they only make one more sale - I'd anticipate more goals this year by miles.

Don't know if anyone watched the Community Shield today, but Arsenal equalized in the 101st minute and then went on to win.
