***Official "Space Blanket" for Better Call Saul*** (5 Viewers)

I wanted so much to love this, but I only kind of like it right now. I feel like I'm liking it because I'm supposed to like it because I liked breaking bad so much. I'm hoping it gets better.
Tough to judge after two episodes IMO. I think they've laid a decent foundation so far and still had two entertaining episodes with a couple of memorable scenes but I would also agree if someone thought they dragged a little. As others have said, you can't go in to this expecting BB or you will be disappointed.

This makes me think that there's more to that "last" scene we see in the opening. Like that's not the actual end.
What else more could there be to it?
I wouldn't be surprised if they pick it up on the other side of Breaking Bad.
Not a chance, IMO.
I would be stunned if they don't.

You think that was the only time you see post-Bad Saul? No way.
What I meant was, I don't think we see anything beyond that point in time. We will probably see a little of how he ended up there, but I am only guessing maybe a few episodes at the end of the run.
Didn't five seasons of BB show us how he ended up there?

I mean a few episodes that cover where we last saw him on BB to first scene of BCS.

I believe there is a LOT of that happening in this thread. This show in a vacuum would just be "pretty good." People in here are so desperately wanting it to be another BB that they'll convincing themselves they love it a little more than they really do.

It's all good. It's worth watching so far, good show.

I think the optimism about this show is not because people think it will be another BB, but that they know the creators/writers/directors are among the best at their craft and they trust that talent to produce a top-notch show.

Anyone who thinks it will be another "best show of all time" is bound to be disappointed.

I, for one, am content to judge it on its own merits without the outsized expectations.

OK, yeah, that might be cool.

I'm finally just starting to watch this. I'm only about 45 seconds into it so far, but I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed. Black and white, seriously? Also, there isn't really any action. I thought the Saul character provided good comic relief in Breaking Bad, but in Better Call Saul, at least so far, he's kind of dreary. And how come there's nothing about drugs? I guess I'll keep watching, but if things don't pick up by the 60-second mark, I might be done.

I agree. Unless they only plan for this to be one season, it would seem very surprising to me to show the very end of the series in the very first scene. Even though showing the end of season 5 at the beginning of was a pretty effective tool in BB, that was a much shorter period to cover.

What didn't you like, or how do you hope it gets better? (just curious)
It's hard to say. I just didn't find myself hurrying to watch the 2nd episode. It was more like a, oh yeah - I gotta watch the 2nd one. And throughout, I just wasn't loving it. I'm going to continue watching because I did like it and I'm sure I will continue to like it. It's just not grabbing me real hard up front.

Yeah, that's exactly what those of us who aren't loving it were saying...

I think AMC already ordered a second season.

Packing and driving to Oklahoma and then renting an apartment?

I'M SURE THERE'S AN EPISODE OF "PROJECT RUNWAY ALL-STARS" ON OUT THERE FOR YOU.

kutta was the one guy who didn't like True Detective also. I think his standards and/or expectations are just really high.

Thx.

I was trying to remember which other show he had the same reaction to that most people liked. High expectations might explain it.

yes that's exactly what I think.Nothing else to know. He has a terrible new life where he will live in fear and remember the good ole days until he is old and dead. Nothing else to explore.

Good memory! For reference, shows I love - breaking bad, weeds, sopranos, californication, Boardwalk empire, curb your enthusiasm.

Again, I don't dislike Saul, just not loving it.

ETA: interestingly, just last night I pulled up the 2nd episode of True Detective to watch "that" scene again.

Yes there is. Someone could recognize him. He could get sick of life and go on one big scam which if he is successful he can buy an island, if not he goes down like WW.

Like I said, he knows where Huell is. They left that open, just incase.

I doubt they left that open just in case.

Count me in as someone who thinks this is very, very, good. Something I look forward to. That usually takes a lot unless it's NFL.

So I go into the liquor store yesterday to pick up some Drambuie and I go ahead and pick up another bottle of Famous Grouse and the liquor guy goes "going for the ole' Rusty Nail eh?"

I wonder how many nerds like myself were in there before me.

Btw, on my 3rd Rusty Nail and liking it very much. No lemon, didn't like that. 2 parts scotch, 1 part Drambuie - and still a bit too sweet.

They started a new show just to focus on this guy. You have to remember, by season 4 we will be at least 5-6 years removed from breaking bad so it won't feel so much like it is stepping on that show. I think they show him eventually try to pick himself up and improve his situation.

And keep in mind, while Walter's face was probably plastered all over the news, Saul would have been a footnote. Yeah, he's wanted, but probably not too recognizable outside of ABQ.

And the rusty nail is a damn good drink.
Just came here to post this same thing. Finishing up my first ever as a post Valentine's Day dinner drink. Delicious. The twist of lime cuts the medicinal flavor nicely, fyi.

Made it about 4:1 JW Gold (look at me!) to Drambuie and just added a touch of lemon at the very end to see what difference it would make. I will look for a bit more peppery mixer next time - JW Red or maybe Binny's exclusive Bank Note.

Sorry for the hijack...this belongs in the scotch whisky thread.

Thank you, Jimmy McGill, for introducing me to this fine drink. Sir, I am in your debt.
