***Official "Space Blanket" for Better Call Saul*** (4 Viewers)

Nice episode, little slow in parts, but love the direction with Jimmy and Mike working as a team.

Curious how the brown bag plays out in the restaurant.  Is he dropping something on the floor that is getting swept up by Gus, is what he orders telling Gus something?  I'll be curious to see how that plays out.

How Jimmy doesn't just punch Chuck in the face is beyond me.

It seemed like Gus knew something was up so the bag exchange didn't happen.

Francesca!
My favorite part of the ep - coming in like a lamb. Now BCS has its own Martha-from-Baskets. Being a hermit, i dont really know - is this a type now? Semi-pleasing plumptons who just give up and decide to be MVPs for at least that bit of attention? They were rare in my day (though prevalent in the nurse community in which i did most of my prowling) but would always find a way to throw themselves desperately at me at some dark point. Do they get enough from always being "OK, yeah" now that they dont have to pent it all up? Hope so....

The show's in danger of becoming a taffy pull, but i kinda like that. There was a period of Family Guy where virtually every ep would extend a bit just so they wouldnt have to write as many bits and that actually became the joke of the show. Gilligan and his li'l buddy seem to be playing with their own writer's wonder over how long they can sustain the grey zone between Jimmy & Saul - which they have admitted was supposed to happen early in S2 in their original plan - and it seems to have extended into playing with how much of life is waiting, hoping, wondering if life will turn out like you plan. Some of it has to do with them not wanting to write Butterface Kim (who's Jimmy's sexual doppelganger for Chuck, y'know) out, but some of it is a writer's puzzle where they can use our anticipation to make stasis work on frikkin TV. Fun for now, anyways.

I think seemed like is an understatement.  They hit you in the face will it.  Mike tells Jimmy specifically that he "leaves the bag and I need you to see who he leaves it with" and he doesn't leave the bag.  At this point Jimmy is the worst PI in all of history; only white guy in the place, wearing a suit and he follows him around the restaurant, literally, and he can't stop staring at him.   :lmao:   Then as soon as he dumps his waste leaves Jimmy starts digging through the trash?   :lmao:   The fact that Gus spotted Jimmy and called off the exchange is reinforced when Jimmy in his account to Mike says "he ate his food as fast as he could and left."  And...ETA: Forgot about Gus going outside to see, and hear the whine, of Jimmy's car as he leaves.

This is a brilliant scene paralleling Jimmy's incompetence both as a lawyer and as a PI working for Mike.  And yet he shows glimmers of genius:  His law firm is thriving as a result of manipulating old people and he made a smart quick thinking move by dropping his watch as an excuse for digging through the trash.  It's really a wonderful display of his transformation into Saul.

Jimmy is us, much as Walt was in BB - intrinsically knowing the way to heaven but equivocating it into a path to hell.

And before someone asks how they knew Mike was tracking them, remember that they picked up the gas cap because the battery ran out.  It's only a matter of time before they put in a new battery and discovered that the device isn't paired with their tracker.  I surprised Mike wasn't prepared for that, but, they had to get the drop on him somehow eventually.

Agree completely.  This show is good.

Great episode.  Loved seeing Gus back in action.   A little disappointed we didn't see Gale in the background chowing down on some chicken.

not a fan of the "set up Jimmy" story, but I the show is so great, I'll play along.

Gus is so damn smart, always one step ahead. well, except for that one time...DING!

I was particularly impressed at how he was both incompetent and brilliant in his PI work: He couldn't have made it nay more obvious that he was watching the guy, however when Mike asked him what happened he went into such great detail ("paid with cash from his left front pocket").

Also, anyone who thinks this show moves slow is missing something... everything single thing that happens happens for a reason. You're likely missing little (and big) plot nuggets.

I got a kick out of Mike surveilling with the binoculars into the drivers side mirror
I had no idea you could do that. Especially with a non-perfect mirror like a side view mirror (imagine the passenger side mirror might be more difficult given it's more convex shape). Very cool.

Taped s3e2 "witness" and just finished watching it... I love this show!  To me it's similar to breaking bad in that it's all about the character interaction and the transformation of the characters over time.  Doesn't matter if the world is meth or the law, character interaction/development is outstanding.

"You break up the family over this!!?!?!??"

And the scene with Kim and Jimmy discussing the tape... you could feel the disappointment/anger Jimmy had for Chuck and Kim had the same feelings towards Jimmy... excellent writing.

Saul has to emerge after this trial.

I'm guessing Gus called an audible.

I'm not sure if he would openly leave a bag for Gus to pick up everytime.

Maybe something like come in and eat. If I sweep up....abort abort. If I'm walking around asking people stuff go to the bathroom and leave the bag in a restroom stall or something

Since we know the result of the relationship with Gus and Mike there's no big drama there but I'm curious if Mike started this thinking he would take out whoever was tracking him or if he knew there would be a chance for him to partner with them.

I'm leaning towards the latter...it doesn't seem like Mike would miss something as glaring as to send Jimmy in there with a suit on, only white guy in there, as the poster stated above.  Maybe it was a miss in the writers room, or it was intentional.

no way in hell the ceo of HMM does that.  no way.  especially when they're trying to catch jimmy in a B&E
They've already established that he and HMM are willing to go to great lengths to appease their eccentric partner.  Hoping a couple fences would seem like a weird place to draw the line.
