***Official "Space Blanket" for Better Call Saul*** (2 Viewers)

agree. i kinda liked howard.  remind me why they hated him so much?   Obv the prior history at HHM.  is that all?
He was hard on Jimmy and sent Kim to doc review in the basement or something. But he did offer Jimmy a job later on, so that all seems like a thin reason for revenge to me. But, those two are nuts.

3rd base guy. 3rd base guy who takes credit for it. Gilligan hates him, too, or he wouldnta put him up in Corrales. it is a New Mexico tradition that even the richest folks live in the open, in mud huts. make your mud hut a whole city if you want, put as much real estate between you and your neighbors as you want. but we are people together in a land. long as i lived there, each time Texas or Arizona tightened its restrictions upon border immigrants, our governor made proclamations inviting victims here. no fences, no compounds. Vega Verde, Howard's neighborhood, is the traditional hater, outsider, Texan, 3rd base area.

must go along with those applauding Fabian's performance in this episode. in between the tantrums, i was moved by what he did with realizing the moment he'd been truly got, that Slippin' Jimmy & Rippin' Kimmy had gotten past his excellence, his defenses, his heritage & advantages and left an unblottable coffee stain on his way of conducting the life process. one could see his heart cave as his face realized there was no one to call on this'n. great stuff -

Howard's final speech really covers it (and points out how absurd this is all is).
Aside from the personal reasons, they needed to take Howard down to get the Sandpiper case to settle. It would have been years before that case ended if they didn’t intercede.

Although they saw the card for vacuum cleaner guy in the vet's book, Saul still doesn't really know anything about vacuum cleaner guy's services yet.  Kim may need to go that route so that Breaking Bad Saul knows all about it as an option.

i'm still on this train of she going out through the vaccuum cleaner guy, but great point here. I think the next half of the season coming up may feature that little black book a lot. since we're speculating, i think there will be darkhorse in there, in the book. with howard out of the picture, and sandpiper, it feels like they need another client/case storyline to continue for eight more episodes and tie these nicely.

this and imo it's deeply rooted in Jimmy's relationship with Chuck.

Howard is the representation of Jimmy's regrets and continued desire for acceptance from Chuck. Kim turned on him after Chuck died when Howard made it about himself saying the fire was his own fault and in doing so unloaded all of his guilt on Jimmy at the funeral. I think it was at the funeral. Kim felt, and rightfully so in the context, Howard put even more guilt on Jimmy who was already reeling from Chuck's death.

So in Jimmy's case he turned his grief for Chuck into this hate for Howard and from Kim's perspective, this is all about protecting little Jimmy from this bully Howard. There is a bit of pettiness to Jimmy's hate for Howard, which feeds well into the Saul persona.

Aside from the personal reasons, they needed to take Howard down to get the Sandpiper case to settle. It would have been years before that case ended if they didn’t intercede.

Right.  It was mostly for the settlement money. But Kim was the one who wanted to take him down.  Jimmy/Saul just wanted to make her happy.

I think the Kim goes to prison theory still has merit.  Cliff Main definitely has enough knowledge to poke around especially now with Howard dying.  He never said he didn't believe Howard's ramblings about Jimmy/Kim and now suddenly Howard has disappeared.  He's to high profile a person for there not to be an extensive investigation.

The only question is if there's enough time for that story arc to develop.  They have a lot to get through.

Goto prison for what?

Howard will be ruled suicide. Everyone say him acting erratically for some time. Marriage had fallen apart, professional reputation tarnished, etc.
Yea I don’t think we see much of Cliff again. Somebody will dump Howard’s body in the desert and that will be that.

Agree.

Kim I've expected to do the vacuum cleaner thing all along.  And if that's the way it goes it's a decent story.  But like someone said it seems too convenient.   Hopefully there is a wrinkle and we get a surprise.   Like she's gone away and promised to meet him at the Cinnabon at some unplanned time.  And that's why he's still working there.
It's pretty expensive, don't see Saul and Kim having that kind of money currently.

ETA:  See this was discussed above

Here is my prediction for what happens to Kim, Jimmy, and Lalo:

Episode 8 starts as episode 7 ends with Lalo in Kim and Jimmy's apartment. Lalo doesn't kill them but tells them he needs them for a plot that has to do with Gus. As Lalo is leaving, Kim can't help herself and follows Lalo outside. She has been thinking of him for some time and is drawn to his power and charisma. She whispers to him "if you need anything, anything at all, please don't hesitate." They exchange a look and Lalo goes on his way.

The next episode Jimmy leaves for work and Kim is in the apartment alone. There is a knock at the door. It is Lalo. Kim says nothing. Jump cut to Lalo and Kim making mad, passionate love. They are really, really going at it.

A few nights later Kim and Jimmy are out to dinner when Kim starts feeling itchy. It starts with an itch here and there but within hours she has a brutal, full-body rash. It's on every part of her body. In her mouth, her eyes, everywhere. They go to the hospital where they run some tests. She looks like burn victim at this point. She can't really move or speak. The doctor then tells Jimmy the diagnosis. It's herpes. A really bad case. Jimmy can't believe it. He goes in to ask Kim why she would have herpes. She never had it before and Jimmy doesn't have it. "What happened? Who gave this to you? Who did you sleep with?" Jimmy is confused and angry about being cheated on but his emotions turn to sadness as Kim perishes right in front of him, dead from herpes.

The rest of the series has Jimmy walking around in a daze. He can't believe Kim is gone and can't believe she slept with someone else. Jimmy screws up Lalo's plan he was a part of due to being in a fog about Kim's death. Jimmy's mistakes allow Gus to get the upper hand on Lalo.

In the final episode Jimmy is alone in his apartment looking at a picture of Kim when the candle flickers. In comes Lalo to kill Jimmy for screwing everything up. Jimmy doesn't even care at this point. "Go ahead and just do it. I have nothing to live for anyway." While Lalo is screwing on the silencer he stops for a second and itches his crotch. Jimmy sees this and immediately makes the connection. It was Lalo who gave Kim herpes. Jimmy's resignation turns to rage. He grabs that pineapple-looking top for the anejo bottle and throws it at Lalo's face. "Choke on this you son-of-a-#####!" The bottle top goes right into Lalo's mouth and lodges in his throat. He chokes to death right in front of Jimmy. Jimmy stands over Lalo's body and says the line from the preview, "so after all that, a happy ending." Kim dead from herpes, Lalo chokes on the bottle top and Jimmy begins his life alone as Saul.

No doubt Saul would have had to wait longer for the Sandpiper money, but both had enough good prospects to the tide them over. Huell even asks at one point recently why he keeps doing all then when he's a real actual lawyer.

I was on his side the first time he tried to get a settlement forced, but it is just pure greed/love of the grift at some point for his character.

Badger himself would be proud of this script.

All makes sense.  Only hole I can think of is that pineapple bottle top shown in the first episode of this season falling to the street near a gutter so it can't be in Lalo's throat.

I'm waiting for the shot up coffee mug to come back into play.  That was the only evidence that Saul was there when his car got shot up, and Kim tossed it in a public trash can.  If Lalo has that, then their previous story falls apart.

Only six more episodes.

Damn it man, if you're going to lay out the whole ending at least put it in a spoiler alert!

I think this lays out multiple potential outcomes for Kim

- she gets murdered by whomever, likely Lalo

- somehow she ends up in prison for Howard’s death

- she has a crisis of conscience, says she can’t do this or be around ABQ anymore and goes back to the Midwest to start her life over. This may be the safest route, so that’s probably out lol

- she gets sent to the vacuum cleaner guy, I don’t see this happening, it’s too convenient after it’s been established as an out for Walt and Saul

This is what I think happens - I think she is all fine with what they did to Howard (obviously).  But physical violence and now murder?  I think she's out.

Although a wild theory would be that she's in Mexico being one of the cartel's lawyers during BB.

Also, I don't think we see as much of Gene as some of you seem to think.  A reunion with Kim or somebody showing up to murder him (and succeeding) is about the most I'm expecting.

Agreed.  This is a story about becoming Saul Goodman, a prequel to BB.  I don't expect much in the way of end story either.

Oh I definitely think we get an episode of Gene and what happens to Saul in the end. They’ve been teasing it too long. The Gene persona is on all their ads as well (putting on the Saul jacket, hmmm)

The last we heard from Gene was when he hung up on vaccuum guy and walked off, right?  He has to be headed back to ABQ is what I'm thinking, like in that moment he decided he was done hiding.  If not ABQ then wherever Kim is.

We'll see - personally I'm much more invested in seeing the BCS and BB tie-ins and overlap than I am what happens to the Cinnabon employee Gene.  A big who cares from me on that.  Honestly, I'd rather not know the conclusion of his story and I definitely don't care about the Saul-Kim relationship to want any kind of resolution (if possible).

it would quite BBish for Season 6B to begin in black&white (as 6A did not) and resolve the Gene thing, then write the rest of the season up to it. Gilligan loves him some foreshadowing.

Holy ####.

I haven't seen a TV scene that felt like that since 24
I guess you weren't an Ozark fan?  The lawyer getting capped was much more OMG than Howard getting shot.  As soon as you saw Lalo you knew what was going to happen.  It didn't have the shock affect of the action itself.

I don’t think you are going to get your wish here.

No I'm not.    It was ok at best,

There were tons of OMG HOLY #### moments in Ozark that blew this one away. Also, probably shouldnt post spoilers of other shows in a thread not dedicated to that show.
Something that happened two or three years ago in a show doesn't feel like a spoiler situation.

I don’t think you are going to get your wish here.
Maybe but to me almost all of the Lalo story is what I consider overlap.  I’d be shocked if that isn’t a good portion of what’s left.  The Howard and Sandpiper story is essentially over - to me, Jimmy -> Saul is essentially complete.  Maybe, like some say, something catastrophic happening to Kim pushes Saul over the edge but for me, he’s basically there.

And yes, I won’t get my wish if they focus on Kim and Gene the last X episodes.
