***Official Texas Rangers 2009 Thread*** (1 Viewer)

All I ask for one time in 5 years is for this thing to be in contention thru the second preseason game. Is that too much to ask?

So Feliz is going to the pen in advance of a callup which will happen after the ASB. Davis I guess has to hit .175 to get to AAA.

Evan Grant was great as always explaining the situation. The guy is amazing. Basically with three young guys and a pitcher at the back of the lineup versus the NL you give pitchers a free inning. Davis is an automatic out every time and usually on less than 5 pitches. He's managed lately to stretch his out to 7 pitches, but that's still just 6 more pitches for 3 outs. Then the pitcher is a for sure out, every time.

Now Cruz is sucking, Andrus is sucking, Blalock and Jones are just swinging for HRs to try to get a contract. There's nothing in this lineup that scares anyone at all.

Hicks isn't going to move anyone and we just have to sit on our hands and wait this thing out till maybe next year the experience pays off.

A "sub-par" effort, which at the beginning of the year you would have taken everytime. You can just count on Millwood throwing the ball in the 7th inning. I can't wait to see this staff when he is not the "ace" and is instead the number three innings-eater.

Julio Borbon is being called up tonight, playing DH and batting sixth.Interesting...
Borbon will likely be sent down when Hamilton returns this weekend (although I would prefer they kept him as a caddy for Josh - and maybe the speed will convince them.......if they were surer about the SP they could do with one less RP)

Nice sweep of the Rays.

Davis going to AAA was probably a little late coming, but should do him some good. I just hope the infield defense can hold up until he gets back, or Smoak comes up. (Which would be way to early.)

The move now makes sense. Davis doesn't make the road trip and stays in AAA through the ASB. He doesn't get his act together there he'll be in AA brought in as an injury replacement only and released/traded by next year. Smoak won't be in the show until September I would think, but I've been so dead wrong about the player movement before I really am mostly guessing.

Worse outing so far for Millwood. At the official halfway mark of 81 games played, the numbers are still so much better than you would have expected. All-Star snub might light a fire under him for the second half of the season, but I don't see how you could see anything better than what we have gotten the first half.

Hamilton is back, Borbon is still up, but not playing.
The big league roster is confusing right now. Too many OFers, not a legit 1B, noone to really backup at the corner (Omar hates playing third). Another injury to the infield could be devistating.

Borbon went back down.I hate being in the AL West. Basically means a solid 20% of the games during the year I see only an inning or two of.Please post all OSB bonehead moves so I can add them to my notebook tia.

Is it safe to say we might be in LAAAAA's head now? 3 series against them, 3 series wins.

Jones is making himself look very attractive out there right now. Time for Daniels to do one of his famous flip trades now.

For what? A raft of deep A prospects? There isn't much more room in the barn.

I have become a greedy bastage when it comes to prospects now. I know it makes no sense what so ever, but my baseball weiner goes crazy over the Frisco and Hickory rosters and what they are doing.

Guys,

I predicted the Rangers win the AL West in another thread but if R. Washington doesn't get his act together and start getting some consistancy setting his lineup, they will fall short. Seems like he just throws guys wherever on any given day. Now I see that N. Cruz is out of the lineup for the 3rd consecutive day? How does he expect to get some consistancy out of Cruz when he bats him in a different spot in the order every night. If the Rangers expect to win they will need Cruz down the stretch and how will he have any confidence in himself if Washington has none in him. He needs to get his lineup set and stop moving guys up and down day to day.

Things that don't show up in the box score about Ron is what happened in the second Angels game.

Holland comes in and throws 17 of 19 strikes and is damn near unhittable. Ron decides to play lefty-righty and pulls in Jennings who promptly beans the first batter he faces on one pitch and walks the next two and loads the bases. Fun times.

I hate that guy.

Noone needs this ASB more that Millwood. He will have 8 days off before facing Boston. Odds that he won't get to 180 are getting near slim and none.

It is not about this year. That said, I am still waiting for someone in this AL West to go on a streak. 8 straight, 14 of 15, something like that. Then we can pronounce church on this thing.
Still not sure what exactly is going to be improved for next year. What will get a step function increase in talent exactly? There's no way in hell Hicks spends any money. The dude is broke. This will be a team with a strong core and no studs to lean on and a horrific manager.

I will bet you a Larry_Boy Dragon that Hicks does not own this team in 2010. A group led by Nolan Ryan will own this team and will have some liquid cash to make a move or two.

With the inning chase all but decided, it will be interesting to see what Millwood's final stat line will look like at the end of the season. 15 wins? 18? He will have to get some help from the offense to get to 18 wins or better. Is 16-12 acceptable after his start. His contribution to the team this season goes well beyond the stat line this year.

Where do you make a big move? This thing needs a speed OF that gets on base, a lot. That and a first baseman that is passable as a major league. Well, and pitching. Those moves aren't going to be easy to make without moving some young guys that may have not developed all the way. Lets say just hypothetically Granderson was out there if Detroit can't afford him anymore. Do you send a package of mega studs for that? One that includes Feliz? Cruz? Who is touchable in the farm and on the club now? Who is untouchable? Really only Young for his contract and probably padilla and millwood for same reason.

Another great performance from Scott Feldman tonight. Nice five game winning streak to make up no ground.

Seems like Texas could really use a power-hitting first baseman right now. Somebody like Chris Davis before he remembered that he sucked.

:jawdrop: I knew someone was going to pull this up. Gotta quit sticking numbers next to my predictions. Just go with empty subjective statements...pretty much like the entire Yankees thread.

Shortest outing all year (2.0 IN) due to injury. Could get interesting...

Is it time to talk about Touchdown Tommy Hunter yet? His numbers for July:

4 starts, 3-0, 24.1 Innings pitched (avg 6+ IN per start), 1.10 ERA, 1.027 WHIP, 17 Ks

2 years away from being drafted, same age as Holland. Kid should be getting some props.

I'm trying not to jinx it. The guy looks like he should be playing basketball.

So, Texas fans, what is the deal with Tommy Hunter? I have an injured Erik Bedard who when healthy racks up Ks, but not wins. Will this kid stick in the rotation for the remainder of the season and provide decent value with peripherals? He is on my radar, but i have heard he might be pitch-counted down the stretch.

Holy crap your FSN announcers are bad. I mean the Tigers guys are brutal also but at least they do a little research, these Texas guys are having difficulty with the concept of switch hitting. Also comparing Feldman to verlander made me laugh out loud, stop it.

I worked a little for FSN and I know they don't pay well, but has anyone ever heard a good FSN baseball announcing team? I haven't, they are all really bad.

Josh Lewin and Tom Grieve are really good. If it was anyone else, I will not vouch for them.

Derek Holland helped his stock tonight, hopefully no trades go down.
sick performance by the Dutch Oven last night. Just wish he could have gotten that last out. As good as he was, I'm sure that a complete game would have felt even better to him.Halladay who??

Rangers got a gift tonight. Seattle with men on 2nd and 3rd in the ninth against CJ, and the M's let LHH Hanahan bat (who whiffs of course) while they have 4 RHH on the bench.

How can Waki justify letting Hanahan bat in that situation?

(hey, come to think of it, Ron Washington has given his fair share away....guess it was just time for karma to come around)

For what they do they are fine.
