Profar looking at late-season promotion?: ESPN.com reports Rangers prospect Jurickson Profar's Double-A manager, Steve Buechele, believes the 19-year-old shortstop might be looking at a late-season promotion to the majors. “If they view (Profar) as a possible piece that can help them in the playoffs in whatever role as a utility player, someone who can pinch hit, get down a bunt, that can play multiple positions, it’s going to be up to them, but I think there’s a chance,” Buechele said. “In the season that’s he’s had so far, I think a September call up, at least ... He’s worthy of that.”

I guess Josh can hit during the day.
 Good to see the offense heating up. Too bad Harrison and Oswalt got knocked around though. Also, I <3 Elvis. Really hate that it seems like we're resigned to him ending up the Yankees eventually.

Left after 8. Told my wife I hope we miss a ranger comeback. Wow!Olt is coming to Arlington. Snyder down. Let the games begin.
Who does he replace in the lineup? Please tell me it's Young.
One can only hope. If he at least cuts into Youngs time it will be a win.
I think you will see Olt give Beltre some days off, either completely or at least have Beltre DH. He can also play some first, and I wouldn't be surprised if he sees some time in the OF. I'm really excited about this, but going to temper my expectations some.
I'm hoping he plays 1st almost exclusively against LH pitching with Moreland against RH pitching. Let him DH some against RH pitching (can't be any worse than Michael Young) Give Beltre some days off at 3B (but not too many days off)where Beltre can DH. Vs LHP1B- Olt3B- BeltreDH YoungVs RHP1B- Moreland3B- Beltre or Olt(w/Beltre DH)DH- Olt/Beltre/MurphyBench- YoungI'd also like to see Gentry get 2 weeks of starts in center regardless of RH LH pitching.
:goodposting:
So frustrating. I don't think Gentry has started in 10 games straight.

This is good, strong posting.Would would have thought Oakland sitting there at this point in the season? Need to listen to some LA sports radio today. The fact that LAAAAA would not even make a wild card at this point is pretty amazing.

It was fortunate that the NL teams were so weak during that bad stretch. It's at the point where even playing .500 ball should be good enough to win the division on in while OAK and LAA have to play somewhere in the .600 range. The last two series versus OAK and LAA are at home I think.

Probably some idiot fanboy. :towelwave: Fwiw, I'm still rooting for you guys to win the top wild card spot.
If that happens, then that only leaves one spot for Oakland. :excited: LAAAAA still scares me more.

Wait, Detroit again? Didn't we already do 2 series already? I thought, well, oh who cares.

I'm sure Dr. Detroit is already there auditing the ticket receipts and concession revenue.

On a personal note, rocking the 76-80 throwback baby blue Road Jersey today. First jersey I have bought since my Blalock Home White. Went with the Darvish, but would have loved it to be a Bell, Harrah or Sundberg.

No Larry Parrish on the all-time team?

I like the Rangers unis, these Tigers unis are also among my favorites. Stirrups!

Being someone who LOVES retro uniforms in all sports, this is going to sound like heresy, but I never really liked the looks of stirrups. The pants-to-the-shoes look took awhile to get used to when I first saw it (on George Hendrick, maybe?), but now it looks so much better than stirrups, IMO. I also don't mind the pants to the knees look with one solid color sock.Yes, the Tigers uniforms are also sweet.

Reminds me of playing ball when I was a kid, I think that is my connection.

Yep, we all had to wear em. Always felt a tad uncomfortable in my cleats. Maybe that's why the Canseco-era A's went to the fake stirrups.

I just tuned into the game on MLB Network. At first, I thought I was watching Milt Wilcox pitching to Johnny Grubb.
Toby Harrah on deck.
Toby Harrah in the tigers dugout actually. Oddibe McDowell or Curtis Wilkerson are available to pinch hit though.
Mickey Rivers or Bump Wills in the house?

Washington is over managing mode tonight. This is trying to win despite him.

Awesome win tonight. Dutch looked great. Nice to see Olt be the hero. Verlander didn't look like he brought his best stuff, but he still shut the rangers down. Impressive that he can do that. Hopefully the boys can chase Porcello in the Texas heat and Yu can manage a decent outing.

Never got around to seeing Olt in Frisco, now it looks like if I don't hurry, I will miss Profar as well.

I really don't understand at this point the keeping Young even on the active roster. He's absolutely, completely, utterly done and has been given far too long amount of time to get his #### together. It's time to swallow the contract, pride, etc. and put in either Gentry or Olt into a daily role.

It's absolutely asinine he's played in every game since June. AT MOST he should be a late inning PH guy in a situational role if you can even find a situational role that he would even show up in.

I played one year in a league that you tried to get the worst roto score. Young would be so by far the MVP of that league this year it would be sick. Could PILE up ####ty ABs all over the field.

Has anyone ever dropped 5 points of WAR in a year? That has to be a record, right?

Wash keeps the clubhouse together by supporting his players to a fault, but I have to think eventually even the other players have to wonder if they shouldn't be running Olt or Gentry (or Profar  ) out there in his place.

I think you are a little harsh with Young - or so used to his good production that anything else doesn't cut itHis walk rate - 2% in May and July his worst months this season suggests he is really pressing instead of taking the walks and waiting for the opportunies.Still I would be he will more productive this month and next

No, he's not being too harsh. Young is the worst everyday player in baseball this year and will more than likely finish the season being the worst everyday player in history. He is beyond bad this year and there are plenty of better options. He is not in a slump, he is just this bad. Put a fork in him.

He's bad, but let's not get carried away. You can find several other everyday players putting up similar stats. Most of them are middle infielders though.

James Loney is probably worse.

I will give you $200 if he is even the worst everyday player in the AL this year .... IF you give me $100 for every player who is worse this year in the ALI understand you need to make someone the object of your anger for the Rangers not winning more games (even if they are winning their division and headed to the playoffs which fans of most clubs can't say), but there is no one single answer and certainly not Michael Young.

I have made plenty of negative Michel young comments myself, but he is far fromn the worse everyday player in either league and honestly, he might not be the worst on the Rangers (see catcher). young in relation to his $$$ and past performance is not very good, but if he is the very worse guy in the line-up you are having 1st world...errr first place problems. We can go back five or so years or take a trip down to Houston for those needing a quick reminder.

Meanwhile in Arizona, Joey Gallo continued to extend the league home run record, hitting his 18th tonight..... Rangers have a shot for the playoffs - just two weeks left in the regular season then four teams vie for the League Championship

Loney currently doesn't have enough plate appearances to qualify. Even if he did his wRC+ of 64 is only slightly worse than Youngs of 66 and -.3 fWAR is better than Youngs -1.6. WAR is a counting stat, so his number is a little higher than it would be if he had the at bats that Young has.

Right here is the answerMichael Young fWAR -1.6

Jeff Francoeur fWAR -1.6

Michael Young (& Jeff Francoeur)are the worst every day players in baseball this season. Young ranks at the bottom or near the bottom of every statistical category.

How do you know Mike Young sucks?

When Jamey's daily email is a thinly veiled calling out of the OSB to make changes in the lineup to use the bench players who are better right now.

This season does not exist in a vacuum. He is taking away ML ABs from up and coming guys that could be getting them in a part of the season where it is mostly harmless. Put Cruz in a DH, let Gentry start in the OF somewhere and Olt/Mimo platoon the 1B situationally. #### this team leader bull####.
