I really don't know where to go now. I tried finding Martin in the temple at Svatch. But the little dinosaur looking thing always spotted me and killed me before I could get to the door. Clearly, I'm not ready for that part yet.

Are the quests scaled to your level or is it really easy to get in over your head? I have no idea what to do next. Any suggestions. I have only completed two quests. The stolen painting and the goblins at the family farm in Collum (I think that's the name)

Try using different skills, poison, spells, whatever. Generally, they are scaled to your level. I have onyl completed 1 or so quests, but I am still getting my feet wet.

Oh jeez, you guys are making me drool (haven't bought a game in months).

But now I'm worried my system won't run this as pretty as it should be. Is it worth it to buy the game with this?

* Athlon 64 3500

* 1 Gb Ram

* GeForce 6800 GT (I believe it's 256MB)

Game looks incredible, but $50 for having to run it lower-res seems not worth it.

Thoughts?

I have the recommended system, which looks just like yours. 3.0 GHz Athlon dual core, 1 gig RAM, GeForce 6800. The system install set me up with everything pretty much maxed except anti-aliasing was set to off. I think that's going to run just fine so I imagine you are good to go!

You should be fine.

I just set it up in 1280X1024 with HDR and holy crap, that is the purtiest game I ever saw. I was just screwing around and killing townspeople and sheep, and it was [seinfeld]BREATHTAKING[/seinfeld]
See, I have mine at 1920 x 1200 with HDR and told ya, no reason to change  -fe

Lots of great tips on editing the ini file to improve visuals and gameplay at elderscrolls.com

Man, after playing about 5 hours worth and creating a few characters, I decided now that i have found a character i like i would turn up the difficulty to about 80% of the bar. Yikes. Couldnt even kill a rat.

A few quick questions that I have that will help for when I get home tonight:

1) How do you know how much damage you are doing with a weapon. I know that in your inventory it shows what damage each weapon does, but does it do that damage every single hit, unless, like a bow, it does x2 or x3 the number it shows in the inventory (ie. rusty iron bow, according to your inventory does 3 damage...so every arrow does 3 damage unless it has a modifier?)

2) How do you see an enemies health, magika, and endurance?

3) Can you drag bodies and move them around if needed? If so, how?

1. It is a relative amount. Not sure of the equation, but sneak attacks/crits do get multiplied. The better you are at sneaking, the more multiplier you get.2. Health is a bar above the monster when targetted. Don't think you can know the rest.

3. Nope

mom is buying the computer for her grandkid (2), i'm just adding the graphics card....

loFl..
What CPU and RAM is she getting? You can buy the world's greatest AGP video card for $300. Tell me what she is getting them and let me recommend stuff.

Holy crap, I cannot believe how awesome it looks. I am gonna go back to work and go HDR instead of AA no doubt.

I played through a lot near Skingard and found an old fort infested with vampires that I vanquished and got some sweet loot. The graphics are too much. This game just awes me how good it looks.

Well so far I've played for about 9 hours total.

I see some of you are having trouble.

A few hints, no spoliers:

Just use your in game map when you are stuck on a quest. It will actually put a tiny red arrow on your map showing you where to go. You can change "active" quests at anytime. And yes, you can get in over your head.

Just be careful when fighting vampires. They can inflict you wiht something called "corpus homophelia" (Or something liek that) whiche leads to becoming a Vampire. I actually caught the desease fighting a Vampire in a place called Crowhaven. Now I must either buy a cure desease potion from some store in the marketplace or buy a cure desease spell. You must do one of the two before 3 days pass or you will have to do some hard ### quest to cure yourself. I have also read that you can have a preist or pray at a churce but I haven't found either so I can't confirm this.

The leveling system is extreamly good, but is very hard to explain. Basically you have to raise your skills 10 times to get the best multiplier for that skill set.

For example:

If you want to make a barb type character you want a lot of Str & Endurance ie-Hit points. Now the higher your endurance, the more hip points you get when you raise a level. So skills like Blunt(weapon) and heavy armour are governed by endurance. If you use these skills more then the others, you will get multipliers when it's time for you to level up.

After you have raised a particular skill 10 times, you will raise your overall level the next time you sleep. The trick to getting the absolute max points at each level is to basically raise 3 different skills 10 times each.

So lets say I raise my Heavy Armour 10 time (endurance)

I raise my Acrobatics skill 10 times (Speed I think)

And lastly I raise my restoration skill 10 times (Willpower)

Now when I use a bed at an inn, I will be forced to raise a level.

Because I rased each of those skills 10 times, I will get +5 points to use to raise those govonering skills.

Note: You don't have to raise skilsl liek this, I was just explaing how it worked because it is very confusing. Just enjoy yourself and use the skills you want to always use and you will gain just fine.

OK I've ranted on enough, good luck fellas! Oblivion is probably the first RPG I have been this into in a really long time. Probably since Ultima Online back in 97.

There is a church in Skingrad to the west and a little south of the capital that has a church that can cure vampirism.

There is also an old fort just off of the Gold Road that has vampires in it. So far, my stealth ranger has not been challenged. Those critical hits pretty much kill whatever he hits right off the bat. I am on normal difficulty, so maybe I need to up the slider a bit. There are also several cure disease potions in that fort.

Yeah its scaled. I actually did this part around lvl 1 or 2 so it scales or I never would have made it. Did you close the Oblivion gate at Svatch?

Well I went to the arena and signed up as a gladiator. I won my first match and netted 50 gold, but the second guy oVV3nd me. I was using a two handed claymore and he was using what looked to be a long sword and shield. The dude was blocking my hits and then nailing me before I could recover.

The great thing about this game is we all started about the same time, but none of us has taken the same path. This is the ultimate open-ended game. I got lost in Morrowind and lost interest in a hurry, but it seems to me that even though this game is wide open, it doesn't feel as bewildering.

I had to poison his ### to beat him.

What clas are you guys? Im a Nord Barb and I owned the first 6 guys. You just have to be patient and block a lot. Then circle around the guy and hit him from behind. I love mages but they are so difficult at first that I almost always choose a warrior type char first.

I did a custom class. Red Guard with mostly combat and agility stuff.

Thanks for the info. I shelled out like 350 gold for a cure deasease potion. :hot: Now I know.

Have any of you found a place to buy some good weapons? I really need a good 1 handed Axe/blunt weapon. The two handed weapons are too slow for my taste and I like/almost have to always use a torch when exploring. (I have always had to turn up the brightness on the elderscrolls games because how dark they are at default.)

I created a custom class. Basically Knight with restoration spells and named it Paladin.

That's a great point.

Mostly magic wtih a splattering of fighter/thief type things. I found in Morrowind that a tank overpowered the game a bit too much - I never felt challenged and would wade through anything sent my way. Sounds like oblivion might be the same. On another note, I've decided I'm definitely re-starting. Speechcraft is too easy to raise and I took both heavy and light armor because I didn't realize heavy armor would interfere with spell casting.

As stated, I am a custom ranger style class. I am regretting I ever took Blade, though. I use the bow and destruction exclusively. And poison.

The stock of weapons will go up as you level, but each store always has its uber-weapon/armor for sale, as well. I need a good bow and am thinking the Dark Brotherhood is the way to go for that one. Their quests supposedly offer a lot of options there (equipment).I have a torch equipped only when need to explore a cleared room. I sneak all the time in dungeons with bow ready.

So do you continue to use your bow after people have closed on you? Something about it just doesn't jive with me. I like hacking and slashing once they're close.

Oh - and I don't know why you keep calling yourself a custom Ranger when you are clearly a custom Assasin... Embrace your dark side Cow.

Dark Elf? That's my plan, ranged warrior with Destruction.

I have athletics as a skill, so I am very fast. I sneak, fire a volley, make my distance again since I am faster and fire off another volley. Classic rope a dope outdoors, but a little harder indoors. Use my destruction in a pinch up close. Just bought a bunch of new spells, in fact.

Originally yes, but went back and started as wood elf for the alchemy and marksmanship.

That was option 2 because of the marksman +10.
Skill bonuses are really pretty meaningless as they aren't difficult to raise. In fact the lower they start out in your key skills the higher the ceiling for level advancement. Attribute and magicka modifiers are much more valuable.I just figured out my next build - A Breton, thief sign custom class with focus on Str and Willpower and specialization in Destruction, Alteration, Restoration, Illusion, Light Armor, Blunt and Block.

Not sure on the block yet or not. Might change that out for Security or another magic class - we'll see.
