ALso, these thieves guild assignments are boring/stupid. I think I'm done with them.

I'm moving along in the main storyline now for the first time in weeks, closed two gates today. Much easier than the first one.

 
I just pocketed 90k for curing vampirism. Gotta love the pharmaceutical industry.

When you cure vampirism for the Skingrad dude's wife, there's a bug that will allow you to keep asking him about the reward. Every time you ask, he gives it to you again. I waited til I was pretty far into the game before I got vampired, so my reward was 7500 gold. 7500 gold x 45 minutes of clicking on "reward" = $11M

I'm at a point now where all the weapons I carry around cost in excess of $40K to recharge all their magicka. Where else can you earn $244K per minute in this game?

I don't consider exploiting a bug "earning it." But I see your point.

I understand your POV. I got to level ~27 without exploiting any bugs. I was making money by casting a feather spell, buying all the ingredients in imperial city market district, turning them into restore fatigue potions, and selling them to merchants. I could earn well into 5 figures a day doing that, it's just remarkably tedious. So it's not as if I don't have the means or the know-how to "earn' my money, it just became a boring, repititive process that I wasn't enjoying. I got to the point where I'd rather not do it anymore.

Yep Norville, on a 360. I know the PC version has a mountain of cheats that we dont have access to.

 
There was one instance where I had a quest that involved the Theives Guild and Mages Guild.

Potential Spoiler:



When you eventually get to the Grey Fox quests in the Theives Guild there will be a quest to get a certain arrow. You have to steal this arrow from a mage in one of the castles. In order to get to his layer you have to fight several sourcerers and a few demora along the way.

Anyway - the chest you need to steal the arrow from is directly in his field of vision. I used my invisibility but it disappeared when I stole the arrow and he started to attack me. I had to take him down and when I did it said I had murdered a member of the mages guild and I was supsended.

I had to go back to the Arcane University and do a quest to get reinstated back in the guild. Basically you have to bring eiter 20 Vampire Dust or 20 Daedra Hearts to the Archmage. I did it no problem (GB the item dupe trick) and was reinstated.

So if you are in both the Theives Guild and Mages Guild be careful during the quest.

You do know you could have just walked up to the chest and grabbed the arrow don't you? You are a member of the guild so it wasn't illegal for you to take it.

No kidding, man. Just ~ player.additem 00000f 11000000I just saved you 44 minutes, 50 seconds. Same exact thing.

Good site for Oblivion info

BTW, I think you can upgrade my taste for Oblivion from "frequent time-waster" to "full-blown obsession". Even with my crappy GeForce 5200 FX card and even though after a lot of modding and fixing the game plays a bit clunky, I still play this game with a passion. I think I've been arrested for killing imperial guardsmen and picking locks more than most repeat felons have ever dreamed of.

 
2 Questions about the mages guild:

1. Someone mentioned that you can get jabronie Mages to follow you around. How/where? I got the ability to do this in the dark brotherhood but don't see how here.

2. There's that one door from the lobby of the university that is locked and needs a key. Is that just for decoration, or do you actually get that key somehow? I'm the arch-mage, why is there mages guild #### that I am locked out of?

1. In the university, I think you can just talk to the apprentices and they'll have a conversation option for 'follow me'2. Nope, no key for that door. I think they have an add-on for it though.

i hate that every time i take something (steal) i am instantly facing a guard...

all i did was get on some random horse outside...instantly detained...

Same thing here...Some goblins attacked us I jumped off and two bears came charging.. so i run around taking on the bears... I come back.. all the goblins are dead and the horse is gone. :(

well, I've paid for 5 or 6 horses so far (several of them have been killed) but a couple of them I will just lose and I've seen as you approach a random stable "your paint horse has wandered back to this stable...." No such luck with shadowmere though.

 
Got my new video card working and installed Oblivion

Sweet looking game

This will be a new experiance, played about 4 hours of Morrowind and all other gaming has been FPS or RTS. (absolutely hate turn based games)

Created a dark elf and and am almost out of the tutoral dungeons / sewers.

guess I can kiss sleeping goodbye between BF2 and Oblivion :nerd:

if shadowmere disappears you can get the horse back by going to Fort Fargout (sp?) where you originally obtained it. Shadowmere always returns back there.

It pisses me off that the Mage Scholars STILL won't talk to me as the Arch-Mage.
 
Where's the best place to go to get some lockpicks? Seems like I can find most anything in chests and barrels, but I can't find any lockpicks.

I used to get them from Armand Christophe, but now he's stopped selling them.

 
Haven't been able to play as much lately :rant:

Just reached Level 10, am Arena Champion and just finished the Gray Prince quest so I can go back to the Arena and get an unintentional murder in the books for the DB :ph34r: Also working on my acceptance to the Mages Guild - three recommendations left. This thing just keeps getting better and better :nerd:

Well, that's because Cyrodill-Mart opened up down the street and started selling lockpicks for only 3 septims, and he was charging 5. Since his costs were 3, Armand was run out of business and now is on welfare in the Imperial City.

Outside the Imperial City at the stables, go behind the stables and walk along the outside of the city wall....go about 10 wall "sections" and keep your eye out for a guy in black. He'll have 30 lockpicks everytime his inventory refreshes, every day or two.

I always found a decent amount raiding a random cave/mine/fort infested with goblins or bandits. usually 20 or so among the assorted junk to sell

yeah, I do too, but until you get your security up, you go through a LOT of them. Or, at least I did. everytime I swing through imperial city I buy 30 from sam.
