It’s ok certainly not must watch for me. Wouldn’t be surprised if a few of these pile up on my DVRI'll give it another episode or two but I don't think I'll make it all that far with the show.
I’m going with watch the show. Ignore the game.So play the game first ,then watch the show ?

"You yada-yada'd the best part!""How exactly did society fall apart?" is an overlooked niche in an otherwise saturated genre. I know one of the Walking Dead spinoffs did this, but nobody remembers those so you could start with a blank slate if somebody wanted to blaze a trail here.I get that they are doing it like the video game. I haven't played it so going in blind and was enjoying the build up, was hoping that would last longer.Thats exactly what happens in the game. The story is not about the fungus. The story is about Joel and Ellie.A pretty good intro. Personally was hoping for more build up when the fungus / disease was taking over and how people survived but it just jumped the 20 years so fast.
I don't think you have to play the game to enjoy or understand the show.So play the game first ,then watch the show ?

I would agree, they are following the storyline pretty closely so far. A few minor changes but nothing that is a major departure yet. They have added more nuggets in that were only hinted at in the game, such as the scene at the beginning of episode 2 showing us some of the origin in Jakarta. I read an article that there will be a flashback scene in a later episode they wanted to get in the first game as a DLC but it never got fully realized.I don't think you have to play the game to enjoy or understand the show.So play the game first ,then watch the show ?

I didn’t. I recognized her immediately from Fringe.Did anyone else think that the woman in the show was Carrie Coon?
I had to check imdb. This one is Anna Torv from Mindhunters
I did - well I didn't know the name but thought it was the main woman from The Leftovers.Did anyone else think that the woman in the show was Carrie Coon?
Yes, she did. That was the second proof that Tess mentioned to Joel. They both got bit at the same time yet only Tess had it spreading.Good second episode. Nick Offerman always awesome so looking forward to that.
So the little girl got bit again in the museum? Is that right?
Played the game, and watching the show. in the middle of the 2nd episode, and all i have to say is i am super impressed. So used to great books/video game adaptions being total letdowns but they did this one great. the visuals look so much like the game that they can twist the story a bit, and it will still be great because of how great the visuals areI'll give it another episode or two but I don't think I'll make it all that far with the show.
i have faith it won't. they seem to be following the story with a few tweaks and i don't think we have to worry about any kind of Walking Dead milking it dry to get every penny they can from it.Post Apocalyptic / Survivalist junkie here
Not a gamer dorkso didn't even know this was a game before I saw show teasers.
I'll give it a 8/10 so far (very good)
Also wish they had provided more detail on the actual collapse but also understand they're following reference material.
Enjoyed the level of detail on SHTF stuff. How communication happens, for instance.
It's must-watch for me thus far. Hoping it doesn't jump the shark too soon.
great question. i mentioned a bit ago, but the game hit me emotionally with one or 2 of the twists it had, and i can't remember the last time that has happened. but the game can take some time. what is good, is since they say it may be a 3 season run, maybe start the game after season 1? or better yet you could probably play the game along the same timeline as the show....So play the game first ,then watch the show ?

Clicker scene was awesome. I thought the changes from the game were really well done and made sense.
same. i love having one biggrumble. i kept waiting all episode 2 for Joel to pick up a bottle or brick and throw it across the room to get the clickers. Maybe a later episode

I knew I liked her from somewhere, but I couldn’t figure it out. Then I looked it up and it was Mindhunters. Liked the show the first season, then it disappeared for a while, then by the time it came back, I was on to something elseDid anyone else think that the woman in the show was Carrie Coon?

For some reason I initially thought it was Laura Prepon, only because she looked familiar. Took me a few minutes to realize it was Torv.
They said she goes to the city for doctors visits. Also, possibly something with the food she ate and infected flour.Get you have to suspend some disbelief for this genre, but how would the old lady neighbor in episode 1 get infected before any of the other people in her house? Would assume she would be watched carefully when leaving the house.
Thanks! I appreciate the pep talk to keep going. Like I said, I was going to give it another episode or two but I'll try to give it more time if it still hasn't hit me yet. came to say to stick with it though. It is funny when i played the game it took me awhile to get through the 1st one because it was so boring in the beginning. Similar to the slow roll out with the story here, but it will pick up and the pay-off is worth it. just brace yourself because there is a twist or 2 that comes in the show that hit me hard when playing the video game. can honestly say it was one of the few ties in recent memory i had an emotional reaction to a game.
so i would say stick it out. maybe skip a few episodes and then binge a few in a few weeks. just make sure you get back before the last 2-3 episodes
I didn’t pick up on it but read in an article interview after the 2nd episode, they intentionally left quite a few hints on the flour thing (and the flour mill is obviously mentioned in the Jakarta flashback. Jakarta has one of the largest flour mills in the world.) Joel and Sarah talk about making pancakes for breakfast to celebrate his birthday but they are out of flour. Sarah passes on cookies offered by the neighbor. Joel forgets to buy the birthday cake. I think there were other references to flour in there too that Joel, Sarah and his brother avoid during that final day but would have to watch again. They said she goes to the city for doctors visits. Also, possibly something with the food she ate and infected flour.Get you have to suspend some disbelief for this genre, but how would the old lady neighbor in episode 1 get infected before any of the other people in her house? Really? They made an entire episode about a minor character. Frank was already dead in the game. It didn't further the story at all. I suppose everyone is afraid to criticize it because you'll be painted as homophobic. I couldn't care less. It was a throwaway episode that did absolutely nothing. Hated it. Waste of a week.
There was a little too much "romance" for me and Bill a bit too much of a superhero, but this was in no way a wasted episode. This is a drama, not the video game. We can't just have hours of shooter gameplay. I thought the acting was amazing. The background given and humanizing of the pandemic and time passing was stellar. This episode will win an Emmy.Really? I kinda liked the episode but agree on the lovey dovey stuff. I get you're painting a picture but we can figure out what's going on. Liked the ending, also liked the explanation regarding the virus, spread and how it all came to a screeching halt in a weekend. There was a little too much "romance" for me and Bill a bit too much of a superhero, but this was in no way a wasted episode. For me, I could do without either given the subject matter. I don't need the obligatory love story in ever post apocalyptic show. I get it, it happens, any port in the storm but I feel like people would be much more worried about is something going to eat me today or do I get to eat today? What’s hilarious (sad?) is how in 2023 people will still say “we get the idea, you don’t need to shove it down our throats!” when it comes to same sex romance but if Bill were a straight dude and “Francesca” fell into his hole they wouldn’t bat an eye about that part of the episode if it played out exactly the way it did. Most would probably comment about how much they enjoyed it.
