I was a little disappointed in the costume/special effects for the big bad who came out of the hole. He just kinda looked like a fat guy in a Halloween costume.
Since i saw the trailer last week, I fast forwarded through the talking to get to the action scene. The fat suit was pretty cheesy. And did Ellie fall asleep even though she knew that kid was infected?
Much like TWD, ill just check out the effects for a few episodes and just follow this thread. If that much. I'll keep out of the minutiae so people don't complain about nitpicking.
It definitely seems like she stayed up with him until he turned.

I, for one, did not expect this to turn into a ford vs chevy debate thread

I feel like I time traveled back to auto tech vocational HS shop talk and the voc teacher has lost the classroom

It never did. Just because you’re a ____ dork and not a car dork doesn’t make you cool.

:snortle:

For those of you that don't appreciate a good love story, are you happy now? Are you not entertained?

That was a kick *** episode. Sinkhole fungi extravaganza was good television. Joel Lee Harvey Oswalding with a bolt action was tense and the clickers and bloater definitely delivered.

Agree Kathleen looked like more of a threat to ask for my manager than lead the People's Rebellion, but she was a ruthless mofo. Karma at the end.

This - everything except the weird Lee Harvey Oswald pull.

I saw it as she fell asleep. The boy turned sometime overnight and because he was def, she never caught his attention until she got into his field of vision. When she did he promptly attacked her.

Too soon? single-action bolt rifle was the comp.

Yea, shoulda went with Charles Whitman. Much more relatable.

I thought the Inside the Episode at the end had a cool line about the sinkhole scene. They said something to the effect, "we wanted to show why humanity had no chance to survive". Thought they conveyed that pretty well.

Ellie definitely fell asleep - which she promised not to. If she had stayed up with him she wouldn't have been surprised by him when he attacked her. And would she really fall asleep in the room AFTER he'd turned?

She now carries the burden of guilt with her - which is about the heaviest baggage there is.

I know. It didn’t trigger me. (/dadjoke) It just kinda took me off guard. Not used to seeing a dude who (allegedly) shot a president used in a quasi positive light.

Just threw me off, that all.

:lmao:

I was thinking more Chris Kyle or the guy from Saving Private Ryan.

I would have thought turning would be a painful experience, with violent convulsions and writhing around the floor. I guess you can turn silently while just sitting there.

I didn’t think you were triggered. My brain makes weird associations. If I’d have known the clock tower guy used a single-action, or knew his name, I probably would’ve used him instead.

I know you didn’t think that. I was making a lame dad joke.

Yeah she definitely fell asleep, I knew she would when she said "I promise." It is a good thing she doesn't snore or the kid would have attacked her earlier.

A lot of you are glossing over this brilliant post. He didn't eat her because he was deaf. She coulda been tap dancing behind him and if he never turned around she would have been fine. He only went after her when he made eye contact. Good stuff Steady

Yeah, and she promised she would stay up, but I have to imagine that everyone is operating on such little rest that it would be impossible to stay awake. So the kid "died" alone. Ellie left the note saying "I'm sorry" because she broke her promise.

What was she going to do though if he turned right in front of her? They could have just kept checking his leg to see if it was spreading all night I guess, and then tell Joel/Henry?

Probably. Guessing Henry would have left with him before he fully turned.

It wasn’t incredibly well thought out. I’ve learned we’re just supposed to go with it and not focus on every detail.

Forgot that scene, entirely. But dod Whitman use a bolt-action?

nevermind, I put myself on the FBIs persons of interest list

I wouldn't take it as not well thought out, I think the show actually enhances what the game did with it. With Sam being deaf (a departure from the game), he was already more "alone" than other people in the world, completely dependent on Henry. That was her greatest fear, and she really believed here in the show (moreso than any point I can remember in the game) that her blood was medicine. She believed that her blood would save Sam, and that's the biggest reason why she left the note saying sorry. I think she may also have realized that had she shown Joel and Henry the bite immediately, things would have turned out differently for Henry (i.e. he would have had time to process what was going to happen and not kill himself after having to make a snap decision that overwhelmed him with grief).

The “plot holes” etc just remind me why I generally don’t like “zombie” movies and shows. This one seems different and I do enjoy it, so I will stick with it. These last 2 episodes have been my least favorite of the series so far though.

We are in the same boat. I am enjoying the show for sure but the KC part was just kind of odd. I think coming from the video game is making the narrative in these episodes like games have checkpoints which is a bit unusual for me.

Man that really ****ed me up when
that monster tore Perry's head off.

Something about a somewhat protagonist getting violated like that really bothered me. Most shows have an unspoken thing where good people don't meet such terrible ends. But there's no sacred cows in this show, looking at Tess/Perry/Henry/Sam's deaths. It's great but it's intense.

I would have been more ok with Kathleen getting killed like that.

This is about a million times better than Walking Dead, it really doesn't feel like a zombie show to me. The behavior of the infection is interesting, also this show has quality writing where walking dead didn't.

Agreed it's a ****ing great show.

Much like GoT, there may seem like there aren't sacred cows, but there are. Just there's only 2 of em 😁

I‘m enjoying this show a lot. One of few I’m watching live.

I will say first couple seasons of Walking Dead were also really good.

I'm getting old and senile so have probably forgotten...but why are they traveling across country again? Because the girl has fungal resistance and they want to get her to a lab or something?

Joel's brother is an ex-firefly and located in Wyoming. Fireflies have a lab out there that can study Ellie and possibly create a cure due to her immunity.

And without going into detail

The previous episode at the end foreshadows Joel and ellies journey to the fireflies

Great episode.

Why wouldn’t Tommy also come? if he was down to go by himself the two of them would be much better idea.
I thought the same thing. My guess is the wife wouldn’t let him risk it. If were solely on him to “save the world” that’s one thing, but if Joel’s going (whom she clearly doesn’t like or trust) then It’s a no go.

But saving the world would be more important. Maybe even send a few people.
