***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (7 Viewers)

On our way back from Florida after Christmas, was thinking about hitting a fwe of the WD filming spots near Atlanta. I see they do have some paid tours, but there is a map that has all the episode locations and it looks like we may be able to hit a few for free. Anyone near ATL who can confirm this? It looks like Terminus is just off of I-75, and the neighborhood where Rick let Carol go is not that far either. Any inside info from the ATL locals would be greatly apprecaited!

I may or may not have mentioned this in this thread. I know I did in another.

Anyway, if any of you have seen Romero's "Day of the Dead", filmed in the underground bunker, the actual mine shaft where it was filmed is located a couple hours drive from me, and every year they do a 5k race where most of the race takes place in the mine shaft.

Looks like February 8th

http://www.jogrunrace.com/Race/View/175379/runnin-out-of-our-mine-5k-wampum-pennsylvania-february-8-2014

I emailed someone there about the event, and it doesn't sound like anyone there has any clue that the movie was even filmed there. Kinda funny.

I am gonna have to go do it. What the hell

The season's over so I'm bringing back up the idea of a Walking Dead Dead Pool that a couple co-workers and I did this past half season as a suggestion and to get ideas on how to make it better.

Recap- three of us drafted from a pool of 15 "good guys", 5 characters per team. We ran it skins game style, every episode was $1 into the pot, if somebody lost a character they'd take the pot and it would reset.

The good- Having a vested interest in who dies was cool while not detracting from the show, and it gave us more water cooler talk (I went way shticky coming up with rediculous ways one of my characters would randomly die in the next episode, like how Carol's domestic abuse reveals were leading up to her ultimately suicide bombing the hospital to stop the "domestic abuse" going on there). That drawn out "is Eugene dead?" cliffhanger was great because of this pool.

The bad- we only had 2 wins in 8 episodes (Bob ep. 3, Beth ep. 8) so 75% of the time we had no result. Ultimately it lead to a big win with Beth which was fun, but would have liked a little more action.

We're going to re-draft again in February (might allow 1 keeper each from our current squads) and throw Preacher, Noah, and Morgan into the pool. I'd like to have some kind of side wagers to keep things interesting because people just don't die very often, like how during a skins game they'll throw in the occassional "longest drive" or "closest to the hole" type competition, but not coming up with any ideas on how to do this.

(I'll also be consulting this thread when the draft comes up so if you think you know who will be next to die, tell me. And I'm in if we do an FBG WDDP..)
I like this idea. Might I suggest as potential side-bets:

1. Most zombie kills in an episode/half-season/season - not sure how best to track this, but I imagine it would change the draft a decent bit. If I'm drafting a "who's going to die" pool, then I'm going with Preacher, Noah, Eugene, Tara....less "established" characters. But if I win something due to # of kills, I'm going with Daryl, Michonne, or Rick, even though they are very very likely not to die. You end up with team balance, and Rick may not be last picked in this format.

2. Which character is first to find X item. X could be something desirable (big can of pudding, bottle of booze, toilet paper, pack of smokes), something ominous (field of freshly killed walkers signifying a rival group that may be close), a new weapon (new meaning not used before in the show, such as a mace or meat cleaver), memento that reminds the group of their previous life or a lost group member (RV = Dale, stash of pills = Merle). You could get really outlandish with what X is, or make it something simple so there's a decent chance at a win each week.

3. Consider splitting the pot if one main group member kills another. Bob's owner gets the entire pot since he died by walker bite, but Lizzie Borden's (sorry, forgot her real name) owner has to pay Carol's owner a portion of their winnings.

I'll post any more I think of, but these are what popped in my head to start.

We recently came up with the idea for an over/under on which episode Morgan would meet up with the group.

The zombie kills idea, we've flirted with, but I'm thinking I still want to watch the show, not have a note pad on my lap tallying kills, nor re-watch just to tally kills. Plus there are instances like Carol's bottle rocket blast where the kills are hard to count. We also thought about maybe only awarding points for kills featured on Talking Dead's "kills of the week", that might work.

Human vs. human kills on the other hand would be very easy to track since they are so significant.

Really like the ominous objects idea, right in my wheelhouse..

Sooo...this Z Nation show...any good?
I have seen a few episodes. I actually think its pretty good.
it was very campy, but got better. It just had its mid-season finale last week. I'm liking it a lot now, actually interested to see what happens.
wasn't the mid season finale, was the season finale

liking it as well...some dumb parts but overall ok

You are correct, I must have seen another show advertised for January and wasn't paying attention. Makes sense that this was a limited run to see how it did, but I believe they are on for season 2.

Honestly couldn't tell you for sure... I know the CDC from the end of season 1 is the Cobb Energy Center right off of 285. The quarry where they hang out in season 1 is just west of midtown.Edit: quick search shows this: http://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/filming-locations-walking-dead-13-stop-tour-of-the-show-s-best-filming-locations-thrillist-nation

Looks like most of season 2 is just off of i75. On on the northeast side of town, so can't speak to how easy it is to get to those places.

Awesome...this would track them very easily. Any idea when they update Season 4 stats on here? Do they wait until the season is over?

For the spinoff, I'd love it if they start the show off juuuuust as the virus starts spreading. Before the breakdown of society. I think a half or full season of that would be fascinating.
Wouldn't work. These zombies are so slow and easily defeated that they'd have to display the collective idiocy of billions for them to over run the planet.
They still manage to have people get snuck up on by brainless feet dragging zombies in the middle of the woods in the middle of the day, so I'm confident they could just expand their "everyone is an idiot" approach.

I think it got so bad due to mass panic and idiocy, all VERY believable things. Would be a good show I think

Started reading the books to bridge this gap in the season. Definitely a much faster pace than the show, in the books Glenn/Maggie went from "hello" to banging in about 2 sentences

Wife is watching the earlier seasons. I watched S2 Ep 7 the other day (barn scene).

I got emotional. What a powerful episode.

I still think that's the best scene the series has done. Starting with Shane and Lori, then Shane and Carl, escalating to Shane and Dale and then everything going to hell. Everything about it was exceptional, capped by Rick capping Sophia and the pan back up to reveal all the damage that had been done. That's about as perfect as you can do it in my opinion.

look at the flowers was, IMO, the best one. but yeah- this was a goody.

Yeah that was a great scene. So was the Terminus opening this season. But what I liked most about the barn scene was the build up. It mirrored all the inner rage and conflict Shane was dealing with from his feelings for Lori and Carl, his dislike of Dale until it all boiled over into a desire to blow everything all to hell. It was a slow build up of rage culminating in pure fury. And then Sophia walking out of the barn and Rick stepping up to put her down. There was so much going on in everything that led to that moment and I thought it all worked perfectly.

When Shane capped Otis in the leg after Otis saved his ### I was like Oh it is that kind of show. Set the tone for me. It went from campy Zombie show to #### just got real show.

I was not disappointed in the farm season it did a lot so set the series up properly.

AMC’s The Walking Dead is adding another series regular.

Relative newcomer Ross Marquand will join the zombie drama based on Robert Kirkman’s long-running comics, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Marquand’s character will be introduced in the second half of the show’s fifth season and will be a series regular — with the likelihood to serve in the same capacity in the already announced sixth season.

While details on which character Marquand is playing are being kept under wraps, Kirkman previously noted on Talking Dead that a “prominent” gay character from his comics would be introduced in the second half of season five. Considering where AMC’s Walking Dead is in relation to the comics, all signs point to the character of Aaron being introduced, as the series could explore the Alexandria storyline next now that the group is reunited and back on the road looking for a new home. Aaron is a resident of the Alexandria Safe-Zone, the longest-running location that the comics has yet to feature. Aaron is first introduced in issue 67 of the comics and serves as a recruiter — with his work partner and boyfriend, Eric. He first crosses paths with Rick’s group while they are on the road to Washington.

Marquand, meanwhile, counts Down and Dangerous, A Lonely Place for Dying and The Congregation among his credits. On the TV side, he has episodes of Mad Men and Phineas and Ferb — where he voiced Han Solo in its Star Wars episode — on his résumé. He’s repped by UTA, Leslie Allan-Rice Management and Myman Greenspan.

Marquand marks the latest addition to the series, which this season has already killed off three series regulars: Andrew J. West (Gareth), Lawrence Gilliard (Bob) and Emily Kinney (Beth). He joins new addition Alexandra Breckenridge as a new face for season five. Her character, whose details also are being kept under wraps, will be introduced in the back half of the season with an option to be promoted to regular in season six. (Casting breakdowns have indicated she may be playing Samantha, a character that isn’t in the comics but who may be a fake name.)

Great, I thought we already has a prominent gay character? What we need is more straight white guys. I feel my cultural identity is being under represented in this show and that is wrong from what I hear.

I am beginning to think this show is reverse racist. The only white guys are a suicidal gullible meathead, a brutal cop and a shiftless hillbilly.

All set up by what people call "dull and boring" episodes.

When you don't nitpick every detail, this is a really good show. Granted I am a nitpicking kind of person about obvious things like not having seen a single person in a death mobile, like the dawn of the dead remake, but for a good zombie filled time, sign me up.
I would think if we actually did see someone with a "death mobile", that would be something to nitpick.

You really don't find it the least bit strange that touring the towns of rural Georgia that they haven't come across one set of rednecks in a lifted up pickup truck done slightly psycho?

When you don't nitpick every detail, this is a really good show. Granted I am a nitpicking kind of person about obvious things like not having seen a single person in a death mobile, like the dawn of the dead remake, but for a good zombie filled time, sign me up.

No. I would find it much more strange is some hillbillies were capable of staying alive and building a machine like that that runs on readily available fuel.

I would like it for the show I suppose, but as I watch I would know how unrealistic it is.....................ya know, cause this show is supposed to be realistic.

You can't be for real. You don't think that backwoods hilllbillies like Merle and Daryl don't have monster trucks like they have things like motorcycles with SS logos on them? I am not talking about the deathmobile that is on the Hyundai commercial, but at least something that looks like it came from the back woods of Georgia. And don't head down the gas lane because every single vehicle is running on gas in the show, including some really stupid things like firetrucks and school buses that they are using.
