***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (10 Viewers)

Yeah, it would take awhile, but make something like a cinder block tied to a rope and just keep dropping it on skulls and retrieving it. There is no certainty that anyone is coming to pied piper them away anytime soon.
I was thinking about how to kill a lot of them. Fire is bad cause it would weaken the wall. Too many really for bullets.

Cinder blocks (if they have any around) or bowling ball or whatever on a rope is genius.
Lifting that thing up over and over again? I mean, seems like you may as well kill some of them, not like the zombies are going to change their mind and be cool or anything, but I dunno. Leading a few away at a shot, killing them with a longer range weapon still the play.
You've got a town full of people... just rotate. Rig it to a pully system even. Its a ranged weapon you can use from the wall with unlimited ammo.Long spears is a good idea too. Might be harder to rupture skulls from that angle though.

None of these is an immediate solution. It would take weeks to kill all of these zombies. But, they've got food stockpiled. They could get it done.
I would think it would be worth trying. Only issue I can think of is no way to clear the bodies. Eventually they would pile up and you have to worry about Walkers climbing over them to the level of the walls.

Seems better than doing nothing and hoping for Sasha, Abe & Daryl to come back.

There were a lot of ways to handle the quarry zombies that would have been better than Rick's zombie parade.
You mean the quarry zombies that Rick found that nobody else knew about? Do tell, what would they have done?
They could have said "thanks Rick for finding that quarry, but, your plan to pied piper them away is stupid." Then thought of and do one of the 20 or 30 plans we've already discussed that are way better.
I think you missed the point.

We were talking about Ricks group never having shown up, and how things went to hell after Ric..................nevermind
Yeah, don't remember 20 or 30 good plans mentioned pages ago.

I remember a whole lot of unrealistic or impractical plans that the show defenders could shoot giant holes through just like Ricks plan.

Rick's much better idea is to be quiet as a cemetery. Kind of like the one he's created. This whole show could be summed up by saying Rick's made one bad decision after another. Hell, he'd have been dead a while ago were it not for Carol (who he decided to kick out of the group btw). The only good thing he's done is save his kid from getting all raped and stuff.

He's going to be alive. So dumb.
Thought for sure we were going to see the flare gun go off before the end of the episode. Instead they'll drag it out until January probably.
yeah- flare gun goes off distracting the zombies allowing Glenn and Rick to escape their situations..
This makes sense -- the same distraction allows both to get away from impossible situations. Lame but I can see them doing it...

Sound like a lot of work - I like Rick's "sit back and chill" plan.

Fixed

They didn't show the walkers surrounding the RV that Rick was in. I mean, they were close to surrounding it, but by the time the scene ended, in that split second or 5, he could have easily escaped. They just didn't show it.

Agreed. He saw them coming from behind and then they cut away. Based on what happened, he took a millisecond and booked it. That said, not sure why he didn't go into the woods. Seems like he would go fast enough that he could lead a bunch in and lose them in the woods and head left to be able to get back out to the road. I guess the least dangerous is to just run to the gate. If he goes into the woods and some zombies don't, he'd get surrounded going back to the road. Also, probably wanted to warn them as even if he broke some off, the rest would have gone there. Better to have Rick and a couple hundred more zombies than no Rick and a couple hundred less.

Stupidest part was the tunnel and effing up that as a potential exit.

That's the way I took it

Then him running to the compound, I just assumed he ran out of the RV and outran the zombies

Ugh, watched it last night and that was a prefect example of whats' wrong with this show: Walking Deays of our Lives.

1- They are trapped, surrounded by 20,000 walkers and they will just have to wait for Darryl and Michonne to come lead them away or hopefully they will go away if we be really quiet. Oh, except for the escape tunnel!! Let's do a pretend search for Glenn instead of trying to save the town.

2- How are all the Alexandians so surprised and dis-pared. Didn't they build that wall for a situation EXACTLY like this so they would be prepared.

3- Says Rick at the top of his voice right next to the wall, "LET'S BE AS QUITE AS A GRAVEYARD". Shut your blinds and don't turn on the lights. Except when you're running around the town doing #### and giving more speeches. Oh and I'll just be up on top of the wall in plain sight of the walkers in case you want to talk some more or maybe learn to shoot a gun.

4- Carl fights like a sissy. Enough of the teen drama story already.

I think 90-95% of the things people ##### about in this thread are trivial and most don't rank that high but this to me was one of the biggest writing mistakes I've seen on this show in a long time. Failing to address how Rick got out of that situation given what we last saw (hundreds, maybe thousands of walkers clearly surrounding the van) was absolutely terrible writing. I love this show but that was really really bad.

The horde was approaching on the passenger side. He was in the drivers seat. He went out that door and booked it. Duh.

And if noise is some huge deterrent, there has to be a way to just get everyone to completely shut up in one of the houses or and throw something out there that makes noise for a few seconds to draw them in that direction. Damn firecracker or something.
Why not just walk along the wall, banging on it and lead them to the far end away from the gate. All you'd have to do is open enough of a path to get a car out of the front gate and it would be pied piper round #2.

Weren't walkers approaching from all sides and surrounding the van? Anyone got a video or screenshot of that? If I'm remembering wrong I apologize.

You can google pic an image. it clearly shows the passenger side full of zombies, many within feet from the rv. The driver side is pretty clear, as is the front. The back driver side very clear. He could have hopped out the back door easily and run away.

ETA pic added

I believe the bodies you see by the driver side door are those that he shot. If they aren't, there still aren't many walkers on that side. No door there anyways.

I've been trying to find an image on Google and haven't been able to find anything yet. I'll take your word for it. Still think they should've shown how he got out. The whole intent of that last shot was to place Rick in a seemingly impossible situation to escape. Just having him show up at the Alexandria gate was lazy writing in my opinion.

Isn't this show notorious for showing you something somewhat incredulous and then flashing back to show you how it happened?

I'm going to assume they're going to flash back to show how Glenn gets out of the zombie mess (or that the whole ordeal was a hallucination on Nicholas' part). Stands to reason they'll also show how Rick got out of his precarious situation. As someone alluded to here, the two could be linked in some way.

I seem to recall there being more walkers around the van in the final shot of the episode but definitely could be wrong. Still think they should've shown how he got out of there given how the set-up was clearly to make it seem like all hope was lost. I would've accepted all of the walkers getting behind the van and pushing it to Alexandria. At least that would've been an explanation.

And yes, given how much Gimple likes to play with time distortion we could revisit that scene again. I hope we do in order to provide an explanation. So I will consider this lazy writing with the caveat that I'm free to change my mind should the scene be revisited at a later date.

doesn't Alexandra have a rear (escape) gate? for a community that big that is a lot of fencing- you would think there would be a contingency exit- just in case

You can watch the whole episode, or just the last 60 seconds here.

Thanks. Definitely not as many walkers on the driver's side as I thought there were. Still think there needs to be an explanation.

Yeah, but, plenty in the road ahead and behind. Would definitely need to run a fly sweep left.

No, believing he was surrounded when he was clearly shown to not be surrounded is merely lazy viewing.

If they were linked, why would Rick be walking around Alexandria leaving Maggie in the dark about it? Nope.

There are a gazillian instances of lazy and poor writing on this show. This isn't one.

Although I think it would've been cool to see more of Rick's zomarathon.

I still think there should be an explanation. I don't think you should set something up as OMG RICK MAY NOT SURVIVE!!!!!!!! and then just have him show up at the gate. Sure he could've hopped out and ran which presently seems to be what he did. But I don't think you should set something up that significantly and not directly provide a payoff. This show typically doesn't do that so I hope that isn't the case here and we revisit what happened to him and how he got out that mess.

Agreed on all accounts.

If you ever think Rick isn't going to survive and you're not watching the series finale.... I've got a bridge I'm interested in selling you.

We might see some of Rick's zombathon next week. They're running these as parallel timelines. The asian zombie dumpster dinner story hasn't caught up to present (if it will), and neither has the zom-parade story. We might see Rick talking on the walkie while running or something.

Of course he was going to survive. We all knew that. That isn't the point. The point is that scene was set up in a way that, in my opinion, demanded a payoff. It would be like having Daryl get captured and the last shot we see is someone putting a gun to his head and pulling the trigger and then the next episode he's back at Alexandria eating cookies with Carol. You can't put a central character (in this case the central character) in a life or death predicament and not provide an answer how he escaped it.

But as we've been talking about Gimple loves to play around with the timeline and has done that consistently since the season began so it does stand to reason we haven't seen the last of what happened to Rick on the road. And so I was likely hasty in calling this an example of lazy writing.

I hope they show the backstory on when the fat woman finally came out of the armory. I can't believe they just showed her without an explanation.

At first I thought that's who Mrs. Porchdick killed. Would've been great if Carol walked by after that and said, "Oh yeah, I forgot about her."

:lmao: at "The asian zombie dumpster dinner story"
