Wasn't Dwight the one that greeted Negan's car at the gate at the end of the episode? Maybe I need to go back and see that part again

A very good episode, but like most episodes, some parts that leave you scratching your head.
Daryl and Rosita - I get Eugene :X on Rosita, and the walkers distracted Daryl...
But how the hell does Eugene run past the Ashes far enough to leave tracks, return to said Ashes and bury himself in a very short time??
Not to mention, he had to run far enough past the ashes to fake out an expert tracker like Daryl.
Daryl and Rosita, after they "lose" Eugene in the ashes, know he would return to the Weapon factory, and yet are no where near it when he does return??
Aaron's plan was to starve and dehydrate himself enough to make Oceanside see the errors in their way?
Carl's letter to his dad was very good... But the one to Negan was lack luster at best.
Onto the good...
The Setup of Simon and especially Dwight by Negan..
Getting Dwight to send off false plans to Rick, plus turn on Simon, allowing Negan to take back Full control .. That was a master at work.
Dwight really thought he had pulled one over on Negan until he opened the door to his room ..
Have to love that Gregory keeps trying to worm his way into one side or the other and yet both sides kick him back to the curb each time.
Finale next week and the end of the war is Finally near..

Aside from the stupid plot holes and terrible dialogue my big beefs are just the little things that they screw up. So there is a war coming and bullets are scarce then why do Daryl (and his stupid crossbow) just leave the weapons on the saviors they kill? Then Rosita says that they are likely to be looking for Eugene and she is literally standing in the middle of the road. Just so so dumb. Onto losing eugene, she was right behind him and we are to believe he had enough time for all of that? I mean come on. Plus why not just kill him? I get the whole "use your brain" but thats just dumb.
Aarons scenes were LOL funny and reminded me of some high school kid in the local play over acting. His plan was just so stupid.
I just dont understand Dwights plan either, if he wants Negan dead he had plenty of opportunities to do it instead of some elaborate ruse.
Plus wouldnt you think Rick and Co would already be worried about negan setting up shop on the perimeter and trapping them? Wouldnt they already be making plans for this? This cannot be some inception level war planning here
I just really really hope the new showrunners tighten this up next season.
It’s better to just ignore that stuff. The Eugene stuff was awful. Heck, after killing the two outside guards Daryl and Rosita could have easily taken that shop. It wasn’t huge and there were maybe two more people to worry about. Could have saved Gabriel and gotten a trove of bullets. The more you really think about stuff the worse it gets. Like you said on Dwight, it’s like the Austin Powers/Doctor Evil stuff that Scott rails on about. Why create a dastardly plan to kill someone where they have a chance to escape when you could just pull the trigger and end it with no worries? Don’t frustrate yourself, just watch it. Last two episodes were at least semi entertaining, still not close to when this show was solid, but not god awful like the previous episodes were.

Why wouldn't Simon just pop Negan when he walked into the room. Such drama. But the fight scene was okay.

Why would Gregory, all of the sudden, grow some balls and think he can make Simon back down? Guess his normal tactics of sucking up wasn't working so why not try something else.
Overall good episode. Although, not sure what's going on with Aaron. His scene in the rain seemed.. awkward.

The whole time they showed Rosita walking right next to Eugene, and even a half step in front of him at times, I remember thinking "well something's about to happen and he'll get away". How freaking hard is it to have Daryl walk up ahead looking/clearing path, and Rosita behind Eugene to keep eyes on him? Kinda hard to take the writers seriously when Daryl and Rosita who are supposed to be pro's at this kinda stuff bungle this job so badly because they got distracted by 4 walkers.

Something else that I've been noodling on....
During the Negan/Simon showdown in the meeting room, Negan made reference to some "psychotic" stuff Simon had done, and said something about how he'd killed a settlement of guys/people. I can't remember the specific words, I'd have to go back and watch it again. Was this supposed to be a reveal that Simon was responsible for Oceanside? It seemed a little more than just a passing line, but now that Simon's dead I'm trying to figure out why (if it's true) they felt the need to reveal this to us viewers. All along we've thought "the saviors wiped out all the dudes at Oceanside, leaving just girls". Does it really matter that it was Simon?

Good point. I guess the only way it matters is that it would go along with Negan's proclamation that people are a resource and how he doesn't want to kill anyone. He can blame it on Simon and his psychotic behavior, which would support the idea that Negan doesn't want to kill people unless it's necessary.

Negan says "When you killed all those men and boys"... was definitely a direct statement on what Simon did at Oceanside.It was to reveal that Negan has always viewed people as "resources" and that what happened at Oceanside, as with the GPK's, was all of Simon's doing.

was a good episode, they moved the story along nicely. best part was zombie Simon on the fence. also the end with Dwight being played.
simon could have killed Negan several times, so not sure why the need for all this planning- just pull out your pistol and drop him. Could have done it in the meeting, could have done it in the schoolyard. stupid writing there, but i get the need to show the fight scene so we can all understand how big a badazz negan actually is.

Except when he's screaming on the radio at Michonne that this doesn't end until every single one of them are dead.
They were getting ready to work with them until that happened? They've been at war all season long.
His reasoning to now take out Hilltop is, because of what Simon did, they will never work with Negan and so he has no choice now but to wipe them out.
The whole don't kill'em, just cut them with weapons that have walker blood on them plan didn't make sense from the beginning because infecting them is killing them plus some:
The only difference between infecting someone and shooting them (anywhere but in the head) is the surprise when they turn. Which only leads to more casualties.

Can't imagine anyone not seeing Negan setting Dwight up from a mile away. Given they didn't show who he picked up in the car for the entire episode, I thought that one was pretty telegraphed.

the whole story in the comic is different, but Eugene never went there and they were running out of bullet. Neagan came up with the idea to attack them with zombie blood tipped spears, etc., in a way to take out some of their numbers and also let them know that they weren't done yet. it has been years since i read it, but it was told in a way that made more sense there

I also like how they went the campy 80's action movie fight scene. Where Simon gets in 2 brutal opening shots but alas Negan just pops right up and keeps fighting and of course later in the show there are no bruises or anything on him nor is he sore. In real life taking 2 shots like that would just open up your face. But oh well it is a zombie show

Darryl and Rick are the biggest screw-ups in the show. They bungle pretty much every plan they attempt. If it wasn't for Carol they would have been dead long ago.

Lot's of "Hope" that the new show runner will change the show back into good, rather then meh... But still have some concerns since the new show runner has been part of the show for years.... But, reading an article this quote from Gimple helps me think things are going to change for the better:

Thought this past Sunday's was good. I always enjoy Eugene monologues. The rest is fairly predictable all leading up to the confrontation.
