But what do you suppose they talk about in their down time?
so... uh... bob- whatcha doin' today?

oh- hi jim...  ... maybe a little ping pong. or chewing people. dunno. you?

thought I'd take a swim. but yeah, I could eat. hey- have you seen linda lately? lookin' good. new hair or something.

she lost her left leg.

oh. right. like I said- lookin' good. peg. amirite? I'd nail that peg, if you catch my drift.

They honestly expect us to believe that Father Gabriel and Rosita are a thing now?  Most unrealistic thing in the whole show
That part pissed me other.  Huge eye roll moment.  The intro to the episode sucked too and I actually fast forwarded through part of it.

I enjoyed the episode for the most part but still too many really slow moments.  I do kinda like the change in direction in the show though.  It's a welcome change for me.

Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

So I'm guessing the talking walkers are messed up psychos who are covered in zombie guts and traveling with herds to randomly direct them to kill people?
hopefully we find out this season. i know this plot line in the comic book was written pretty well so will be interesting what the show runners can do here

I know I watched it last night, but have next to no memory of what happened. Expo for what's coming I guess.

Oh right...Maggie left with...who? Van driving record woman?

We saw that Daryl had the same cross scar on his back that MIchonne had.  Suppose one day they'll get to that story.  This new group with the Balls of Fury guy is both confusing and boring.

I was really hoping she chopped off his hand instead of cutting his violin in half

hopefully they all get whacked soon because I don’t  find any of them interesting or compelling (although neither are any of the regulars at this point)

Daryl is the only character whose death would bum me out.

But now he has a cool dog, too, so I guess it's up to two characters.

This episode was boring.  It wasn't terrible and I didn't find myself rolling my eyes or fast forwarding so that's a plus but it was boring.

Half the episode looked like a bunch of LARPers re-enacting Lord of the Rings
  glad someone else caught some of this too. The armor they are using just looks absolutely dumb. Like Jesus has some thin elbow guard on for his armor piece, and Carol had on some half-### thing too. Better to go with nothing than the crap they were putting on

I actually like the new characters and direction it's headed. It's not as good as the old days, but better than the earlier parts of this season.

Yeah, I kinda like the last 2 episodes.

Really hope that the "smart walkers" are disguised humans rather than "evolved" walkers (which I really dont think would make much sense)

The scene with Rosita running through the woods almost made it seems as if she was hearing them telepathically. I really hope that isn't the direction this is going. But I guess some sort of brain development from the virus would make more sense than functioning vocal chords. Either way, agree with you and hope it's live dudes hid amongst the dead.

Daryl and Michonne both donated kidneys to Maggie, who was really sick.  Maggie only needed one to live though, and then she absconded with the second kidney to trade it to Georgie for a Hitachi Wand and an 8-track of Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors".  That's why Maggie is gone, and Michonne is so mad at her.  Michonne hates Fleetwood Mac.

Daryl had multiple scars, with the X shape up near his shoulder blade.

Just to be clear for every one thinking the season is almost over, it isn't.  Season 9 is 16 episodes.  This week coming up is only episode 8.  They will take a winter break before starting with episode 9 (just as they have for many seasons now).

While there wasn't much going on this week, I did like the way it was shot.  I felt like they gave the atmosphere much more suspense than they have in the last couple of seasons.  Almost like they want you to take the walkers as a serious threat again.   And I'm down for that.

I like this angle as well.  They got to where walkers were just a nuisance.  Now two of the main characters are terrified of them again.

but not scared enough to bother mentioning it to their friends.

or... writers.
Yeah, that should have been the first words out of her mouth. They were talking. I guess as long as it isn't stupid, I'm OK for the build up. I don't think they should figure it out right away.

I do like the fact that the walkers are now an issue again. The new group is a bit goofy, more because the characters are forced. Hopefully they don't turn it into a everyone has to live type of approach. Not one of them truly matters so let's see some craziness.

Also, agree on the freaking armor they use now. It used to make some sense, but the stuff they wore last night was just silly. People get bit in 3 areas (arms, legs and back of the neck) and this armor seems to protect nothing smart. Well that and the karate scenes.

armor... yeah.

if they're going to be at all- well, logical (I know, I know... we're dealing with those writers, but still)... arms get covered to avoid bites while pushing them off, lower leg to avoid buried/ninja/crawling/ zombie sneak attacks and to protect leg while kicking zombie out of the way. mostly to protect in hand to hand for offensive/defensive purposes. after that...  .... torso and face is good, but a bite anywhere is a bite and lethal.

They have a blacksmith.  Might as well whip up some Knights of the round table suits of armor.  Go medieval on their ***es.

NO ONE SHALL PASS!

There was a book I read where a character wrapped bath mats around his limbs to stop bites.  Seems like that would be more effective than whatever 3 sizes too small motorcross bmx stuff they're wearing right now.

Seems highly implausible that 6 years would pass and not a single character we know would have died during that time.  Not of sickness, zombie attacks, industrial/agricultural accidents, attacks from outsiders, etc.

A minor quibble, because I'm not too caught up in the stuff, but... 6 years later medicine would have gone bad. Forget gas -medicine. So how are people fighting infection at this point.

Watching Daryl eat a snake and rabbit I couldn't help but think that food must taste awful in the apocalypse.  No salt/pepper/sriracha/etc anymore so they really are just choking down the minimum to stay alive

yeah... this is kinda where I was going with the above.

scavenging for things like food, gas, medicine at this point in TWD world is long past. so the new reality is farming, hunting and medicinal plants. and gas. of course... motorcycles gotta motorcycle, helicopters gotta helicopter. I said it earlier- horses are massively important resources here, along with any other kind of livestock like chickens, cattle or swine.

I liked that they touched on the infrastructure in the Kingdom starting to break down. that stuff interests me. what they have to eat (like darryl's snakes), how they take care of their health- toothpaste, soap, washing material- how they deal with other things like clothes, or other day-to-day items, falling apart.

Just goes to show that Rick was the real menace to these people.

He leaves, and no one dies for 6 years.

glad they are moving the plot along, but not a fan of a couple of things in the episode. the Neegan story line made no sense (feel like i say this 100 times, but was done 50x better in the comic). and the ending was more bummer than surprising or exciting. Really reinforces how the show does not know their audience, really should have had Tara join that group and take the "L"

Jesus the only interesting character at this point....ok, yeah- kill him off.

And re whispering...how does that control the other zombies? They've figured out how to herd them, I guess...not sure how that competes with firecrackers and a barking dog. Keep it in the same wavelength as the growling? Speaking of- glad they showed Darryl shutting the dog up with an immediate command- barkings not what I'd want to be around out there.

Anybody else waiting for Elvira or the cryptkeeper to pop out from the fog machine?

And I honestly can't imagine the motivation behind the whispering people. The whole nemesis plot line just seems so pointless and dumb and played out

I'm already worried about how they've done it (compared to comics, which I haven't read). Something tells me that the whisperer attacks had way more surprise attacks leading to the discovery. Something also tells me that they wouldn't have recruited people (like Daryl in the preview). They seem more like just kill other people with no other motives and do it by herding walkers and occasionally get involved. The previews make it seem more like the next enemy than a really cool story line and mysterious series of attacks and deaths. For instance, they had almost 300 walkers in that herd yet, instead of just sending wave after wave of walkers and blending in the end was just a wave of real people and all of them get killed and only kill Jesus.

I really can't stand how bad this show has gotten and I'm already worried they ruined what could be a fantastic story line by spoiling the mystery that quickly. Now that the good guys know, it turns it into more of a war like we've seen a million times already.
