See I looked at that in a different way. To me it showed how jacked up Lydia's mom was but not in the way you took it. She had beaten Lydia down so much that Lydia believed the lie of her father being the wife beater and dominate partner when it fact, it was Lydia's mom all along. It was only when the turd showed her some compassion that the switch flipped and the real memories kicked in. Darryl talking about the switch and sharing some of his tough life brought it all out. The dad never shaved off the beard, the mom shaved her head and went full on #####, she even repeated the line the father used when Lydia first told the story, "world is ending, I'm gonna do what I want." I think Lydia really wanted to love her mom and the mom always pushed her away. The dad loved Lydia but he was a little ##### so he died a timid death. I think that was a stupid way for him to go, figured mummy would have slit his throat or something but mission accomplished regardless.
Good point. Still don’t like that two bigger guys didn’t even struggle but I like the idea that the initial version wasn’t really true, it was the lie Lydia believed. It would have been way better if she killed the two guys in a way that was believable. She didn’t even have her hand on the first guy’s nose. Just stab them. I’m sorry, but I have three boys with the youngest around 90 and 150 pounds. Regardless of what they do, I’m bigger so I can’t even imagine those guys not at least struggling or rolling over with a woman who’s 70-100 pounds less.

That’s why I fondly recall the barn. Maybe it was a little slow but it was still believable and you didn’t groan when they did something that appeared to be 100% due to the story line and not realistic.

Yeah, the Whisperers thing could have easily been much more awesome before they were fully outed.  Not even really one full episode of a bunch of "what the F is going on" by the group.  It was pretty much the same thing that FTWD did when they buzzed through the first 40 days of the outbreak in like 4 episodes when we all thought it was going to be like 3 seasons worth of stuff before reaching 30-40 days into the outbreak.

So like, Judith spends all this time out on her own in the woods shooting people, running into new groups, herds.................isn't she like 9?
When I just think about it, it could have easily been epic. The stupid ads with the little crazy music have been scarier than the actual show. We’ve got so many new characters, why can’t we kill them? Do they really think we are getting attached to them? We were attached to the original cast because it was a good show back then. There is literally not a single character right now that I’d care about them dying. Daryl of a few seasons ago would have put an arrow in Alpha without hesitating knowing it would likely end the threat.

For those complaining about the Whispers secret being revealed so fast..
Not being a reader of the Comic Books after the governor, I can only go off what you are saying but from my perspective..

The producers know the end is near.. If I had to take a WILD guess, next season will be the last for AMC.

So it seems to me they are probably speeding things up...
That way, they can catch up to the Comics, or at least get to a point of closely caught up, then milk this for more money by making a movie or two..

They wrote her off as visiting the lady with the records... If her new show fails, easy to write her back in.. If her new shows succeeds, easy to write her off as MIA/KIA. :bye:
The old lady that they met a few seasons ago who talked about how to rebuild civilization?  Ok, must have missed that part.

yep.. and it was easy to miss if you weren't paying close attention..  It was one line where someone asked about Maggie and I believe it was Jesus who said where she went.. and that was it.

Probably one of the quickest send offs of a main character in TV history.. :bye:

Her show looks absolutely horrible.

Parts of that was actually really good.   And other parts were so very bad.

Someone kill Henry already please, what a terrible character.

I've been here since s01e01.  I'm done.   Not the "see you next sunday!, this episode sucked" sort of done -- I mean I am done.

This #### is just terrible now.  It's been terrible for a while but I was holding out hope for some reason.    okbye

This week was not a good episode.  Was back to being a slow, filler type episode that was boring and poorly written.  The next episode looks like it could be good though.
Ugh, I can't stand the cast that we have now. I don't know why I put myself through this now. I'm a glutton for punishment, but I feel like I have to see this show to it's conclusion which can't be far off now. The Hilltop folks have lived through this for so long, but you don't just stab the first ten zombies that are held back by the rope before letting the rest loose? Just so silly the way they act and the way the writing is done as if no one cares. Hey, but they got the projector bulb 5 years after it burned out. Might as well go for it while a large herd is coming and not any time in the 5 years prior.

Henry is a terrible character and now the old lady and husband get a baby, so they are whole again? Did anyone really give a rat's ### about them before. Daryl has to go save Henry and of course a war will start just because Henry got a crush. Daryl, Dog and deaf girl.

Also, is anyone going to tell the Hilltop and Alexandria about the whisperer's or do they know? It's so hard to know. Also, also, how did our good guys cross over into whisperer's territory as alpha said? Don't they always move?

Gave up 2 seasons ago. So relieving.....

The whole King and Queen go searching for a projector lamp was a waste of time..

Alpha showing her VERY dark side with "If the kid won't shut up, the dead will take care of it" Circle of life speech

Ramping up next week with Henry, Daryl and "Lost in the corn field" woman wandering into the Whispers camp..

Henry is officially the worst character in the show's history, imo.  What a dopey kid.  I guess Daryl is obliged to Carol with regards to Henry but he should have just let him go and join the whisperers, or be killed by them.  Wash your hands of that goober.

He already got people in the Kingdom killed by being dumb around the savior prisoners last season.  Now he's going to start another war just because he dearly wants a girlfriend.  If/when Daryl gets him back he should tie him up and deliver him to the gates of the kingdom and then go back to living alone in the woods with his dog.

Thought the same things watching this.  Thought the nomads always moved around.  How do they even have any territory?

Don't imagine Michonne or the kingdom knows about the new threat.  If they have this fair they've been talking about I guess that's when everyone will know.  And the scene with the older couple at doctor Enid's (which is another huh? moment for me) office being forced into the story to explain the joy and fulfillment the whisper baby could bring into their lives was just

And where are all the guns at Hilltop?  They stand around with spears and arrows.  Course the deaf girl can hit a moving head from 40 yards with a sling shot, so there's that.  But from what we can tell the whisperers only have hidden blades.  Why not meet them at the gate with a small arsenal and go from there.

i fast forwarded on the DVR through about 80% of it.   show has become really cartoonish.    this alpha lady doesn't scare me at all, darryl is making poor decisions and acting like a baby.  the king would've been dead years ago he's so unable to survive on his own.

the show has come a long way since rick tore out a guys neck with his teeth.

That's what the Daughter said.. but as we've learned, she has different stories and finding the truth is somewhere between.

At the time she told Daryl that they were wanderers, her Dad was still the abusive one... It was only later that we learned Alpha is a :censored:   ..

So, the original "we wander from one place to another" was more then likely a half-truth at best.

as for the 2nd bold part ... Alpha uses' kids, as well as Hostages as protection. So yea, they could have just opened fire and picked up the pieces, but then you've killed 2 or 3 of your own as well as a baby so...

Well I didn't say just open fire.  Daryl knew the mother was the abusive one before he went down to the gate and didn't want to give the girl back to the leader/mother.  I thought she told him it was her mother that killed her dad and hit her.  Go down with weapons and, if you have to, grab the leader at gun point.. then see if she's willing to release the two guys.  Don't just mow them down.  Give the daughter back, get the other two guys and be done with them.  If Henry sneaks out then good riddance.

The whole thing seemed silly.  The new group of people have not adding anything to the show, imo (not the whisperers, Luke and the deaf folks).  Let them walk. Take Henry back to kingdom and stop baby sitting him.  He's been nothing but trouble since they introduced him.

Get rid of the whispers and your back to Community rebuild show which, when the show has gone that route, most post with "BORING!!" ..

At this point, IMO,  the show has two ways to go as the continued "Meet bad group, kill/destroy, bad group, meet new bad group, etc." has reached  .. :deadhorse:
So... you either go to the "Rebuild Society" show, or you call it an end.
I'd love to move onto where Rick went and whatever the Lady Maggie went to find are involved with..

As I said before, I feel next year will/should be the last as there just isn't much more you can do with this formula.

Honestly; I must have been playing on my phone or something because I have no clue why they were even looking for that bulb or what the point was.  The music and killing zombies worked though.....  And also how the hell did they get a projector running at the end?

Per the      conversation... The king is trying to get all communities together for a "County Fair" and he believes the magic of movies can bring them all together.
They've always had the projector but their last bulb burned out.

I thought shows were meant to be entertaining?  This has mostly just been frustrating.  It had some good parts but was overwhelmed by bad parts.  I even had to fast forward through some parts.  Henry needs to go.  A person like that does not survive in that world.  The next episode looks good based on the preview but I thought this episode was going to be good based on it's preview.

Didn't see it mentioned yet, but they did some sort of weird time jumping in this episode.  Jesus and Tara ride up to meet Zeke & Carol (and Jesus mentions that Maggie recently left), so obviously the handing over of the charter happened in the past.  Was the Great Bulb Search & Retrieval Mission also in the past, or is that present day/at the same time as the Hilltop/Whisperers prisoner exchange?

And WTH is with the whole secrecy around whatever happened to Maggie, and whatever made Alexandria folks not like the Hilltop & Kingdom folks anymore?  They keep mentioning that something happened, and whatever it was is what drove Maggie away I'm thinking, but they bring it up so sporadically.  Complete shame that Maggie has been with us since S2 and her character just went poof without so much as an explanation, and all we get are these little snippets like "you know Michonne won't come to the fair after everything that's happened", and "we used to be a family, maybe we'll get back to that", but then no mention of it for a couple episodes.  Smells like another angle that the writers have no idea what to do about...

I think it was a contract dispute so it wasn’t Rick’s grand exit for her. I think they left it open ended in case they worked it out and then go to that community. I’m having a hard time watching now less because it’s so much worse and more because they’ve just sucked the energy out of a great concept (the whisperers). Why do we need to be force fed a stupid romance between two awful characters and why do we care about a whisperer baby? As bad as it sounds, I would have rather seen the zombies eat the baby than the story we’ll now have to watch like we care.

The Jesus scene was a flashback and the great bulb s&r was current timeline. Looked like that little expedition took them into whisperers territory.

Someone please tell me this is the final season.
I hope it is. I’m trying to hang in there but I hate feeling like I wasted my time again and again. I was legitimately excited for the whisperers. Do you recall last season with Rosita and Eugene and the terror they felt covering themselves with mud. That was actually awesome and then they spoil it one episode later and it’s a bad version of the Governor and you realize you can’t stand the entire new cast.

AMC is just going as cheap as possible now and raking in as much profit as possible. They don’t know how to use a concept like the whisperers and make it Jaws like, scary without seeing the shark and also still cheap to make.

You do realize that you could easily make a better show for the same money.

When the Whisperers came to the gate and Psycho woman said “I am Alpha”, Daryl should have responded with “I am Omega” and opened fire on the whole lot of them.

Where are the guns?  There were like 30 at most Whisperers and tara and the town were just lined up on the wall instead of getting in attack formation.
Why wouldnt Daryl give the daughter back?  Seems really stupid.

Henry may be the dumbest character in the history of TV and daryl and co keep putting up with him.

I thought the towns could communicate with radios?

The whole light bulb plot was dumb.  Basically everything about this show is dumb and is getting dumber.   I will still crank through it in my spare time just to laugh and be up to speed on this thread.  But I cannot imagine anyone arguing that this is a good show at this point.  The best character is Negan and they havent shown him in weeks.

Again where are everyones guns?  If you are defending your town or going on dangerous missions wouldnt you want at least one automatic rifle around?

The guns thing is very silly. It’s almost like they want us to think they don’t exist but they are more than willing to have Judith shoot Rick’s gun when we meet the new people or show Alpha with a shotgun. I’m tired of the writing stuff in for convenience and then thinking we’re dumb enough that we’ll forget.

I waited to see watch this season and finally binged.  This is awful.  Damn shame how this show when down the tubes.  Were the books much better?

Gave up 2 seasons ago. So relieving.....
And yet...here you are :P

And where did the helicopters go?
They put in a cameo once a season, don't want to use all the magic up at once!

As for me, it's become clear there is one and only one character I'm concerned with. He leads from the front, works well with any group he is associated with, simply a natural born leader. Every show going forward, he will be my main focus. My man...my boi...Dog!

Have the zombies tear that baby to mush and you might have gotten my attention again AMC.
I posted the same thing. Now we have some stupid baby story line with characters doing stupid stuff and more hilarity will follow when inevitably whisperer mom comes back to get it from people we care nothing about. It’s like watching a reimagined Star Wars movie where the whole thing is shot from a planet where we see old and stupid people who eventually see the Death Star blow up.

In a country that has a high percentage of households with guns, as well as a large population and living areas.  Just go into as many neighborhoods as you can and go through the houses.  You're sure to find guns, as well as other other items of need.  Medicines, canned goods, etc.....

Even after a decade, I am sure there are plenty.
