Ehh, up until last night Carlos has been the ####. But yeah, last night Nick was the annoying one.

Brian was very obvious as soon as we heard boneless skinless. No way was Tom letting that go.
Right when they mentioned he was using boneless skinless chicken breasts (before they even finished cooking) I told my wife that Tom won't be able to comprehend it and he'll go home. Seemed like everyone liked his dish much better than the carrot dish

That Roy stuff was contrived, right? It was a setup as part of the promo for the movie which is along some of the same talking points he seemed coached to hit. I just assumed he was set-up to say all that stuff in advance so they could bring in Favareau to plug his movie which just magically happens to be on the same premise.

Or perhaps they all suck. I'm willing to believe both.

Has any season ever been full of more chefs cooking the exact same food genre every single show. Usually it's just one or two that can't get out of their comfort zone.

I've never heard someone's story from eating a taco.
:goodposting: Could he have been any more condescending? Jesus.
Reminds me of the first seasons of The Apprentice when the blonde would be very high and mighty and condescending to everyone about their business acumen and it turns out she managed a ####### golf course.

It doesn't surprise me that's all Donald Trump has actually done.

I thought Nick was going. Seems like Tom wanted him to stay though, so that's probably why he stayed. That was one of the most pained "pack your knives" from Padma.

It really did turn a couple of weeks ago--I thought Carlos was the ##### until then, but Nick must be the most whiny, annoying contestant in ages. My husband (who is a chef for a living) couldn't believe that the guy can get by in a kitchen; being sensitive and whiny usually doesn't last long. Come to think of it, Nick did get fired from his last job, right?

Nina started strong but hasn't been that great lately. Shirley started weak, but has since exploded into the top slot. Should be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Gail basically giving head to the fork in front of Carlos was good shtick. That was the most obvious "I want to #### you" face I've ever seen.

I still think Nina will win, although maybe if that dude (Louis?) ended up winning LCK a bunch of times in a row (I didn't watch it). Nick, not only is overly complex for no reason, his food isn't that interesting. Although to be fair, none of them seem that creative.

If I didn't know Shirley was winning a bunch of challenges, I never would have guessed it. She seems kind of pedestrian to me. She complained about Carlos cooking Mexican food, but she cooked an awful lot of Chinese food.

Taken over by an outside company, only person not retained.

when he said that, I was torn wondering how big of an ####### he must have been and thinking that is was pretty awesome

Yeah, that should tell him something.

So huge comeback for Nick. I thought Nina was getting the win.

Good episode though. All 4 are pretty impressive.

Got caught up last night. I could really do without one more Caribbean inspired fish dish with citrus and pepper from Nina. I have no idea how she hasn't been called out for cooking basically the same thing for every quick fire and every challenge.

Nick at least tries to do something interesting. Would have been far more interesting with the girl who cooks nothing but asian fusion vs. him.

Yeah I like how Shirley keeps saying this whole experience showed her that she has her own voice and style of cooking.

Congratulations, you traveled to New Orleans and Hawaii and after months of hard work, you realized you're Asian.

Meh. Shirley and Nina's food at least comes off as interesting and tasty. Nick's food while highly technical just seems to be pretentious for the sake of being pretentious.

I've seen Nina's cooking. On the 20th time I realize she has one dish that just just changes it to fit whatever she's given. She might be the most one-dimensional finals contestant ever. I mean it looks good and seems to be well received, but that makes for very boring TV when you have to beat that type of cooking which is dead nuts inside the Hosea zone.

Oh look, here's this random fish that nobody's heard of that I'm gonna put with MANGO JUICE AND HABANEROS this time, or will it be Pinepple and serrano, or perhaps this time I'll get super crazy and add a root puree base.

Nick at least makes you think a little bit and if he fails it's not for lack of trying. Like many people our opinion of him is likely colored by the fact that he's a ####.

Which is strange because she works at an Italian restaurant and has mentioned she leans to Italian in her preferred cooking style. Believe she's at Scarpetta in Miami.

As for Nick, you can tell he's creative but he's young. I think that's why he's always talking about doing too much. Once he gains experience with flavors and what works with what, he's going to be very, very good.

I really thought it was going to be the two gals in the final.......Shirley seemed to really step it up throughout the year. this should be an intersting final with the other chef's coming back. the others are going to have a hard time executing nicks technical dishes....i am picking nina to win it all.

Did anyone else think Nick's new zen attitude came off phony?
Yes, but maybe he watched the show and saw how dooshy he came off.
Yep. I'm not even watching the finale at this point. I can't stand seeing the guy on the screen. Wish Lewis (Louis?) could have had a better showing.
Do they just cook a single dish in LCK? Maybe only having to produce one dish every week kept him from having to think about something like consistency in reproducing a dish. Still, noticeably overcooking and undercooking at this point—I'm not sure how that happens, unless the weather really did factor into it.

Why? They are doing a restaurant wars challenge. IIRC that's the only other challenge he won all season under his direction of restaurant wars. Nina wasn't on his team. In fact, looking back on the photo not a single finals member was on his team and he trucked the other side.

Didn't catch the preview, so the finale is a version of Restaurant Wars? Would have thought after last year's disaster they would have simplified the finale.

A restaurant war finale was the way they always have done it except for last year.

They don't film weekly ;)

A restaurant war finale was the way they always have done it except for last year.
Actually, the only time they've done a restaurant war finale was the all star season. Every other year it's just been a small table service, 6-12 people tops.

Well, in the sense that they do several courses. There have been some big audiences though. The Hosea year they did like 100. The 6-12 is pretty unusual. Maybe Season 3 was the only one I remember being super tiny. The Volt year I think maybe it was small as well.

The Hosea year was small, like Volt year. After that they started going bigger. Kevin won in Singapore serving like a 100 person dinner. The all stars and the Texas year were a restaurant service. And last year was just a disaster. Actually the live audience with the champs table was cool, but the scoring was horrible.

Ok, maybe so. They always seemed to cook to all the contestants, the judges, and usually a dozen or other VIPs.

When they did the 'Watch What Happens Live' promo, about 1/2 way through the show, I thought for sure that this was going the other way

Based upon what they showed, it didn't seem that close to me. Sure, they broke it down 2-2 on courses, but Nina's wins seemed fairly narrow and Nick's seemed like they had a healthy margin to them. And I love how Tom got into their heads about dessert. Never understand why you'd do a dessert for a 4 course tasting menu in the finale.

No question who runs this show, lol. Tom was not leaving that table until they all agreed on Nick. Thought he and Padma were going to throw down at one point.

Glad Nick won. Based on the menus I would have picked to eat at Nicks. As for doing a desert in the finale; I think it makes the meal feel more complete. Every great chef should have a couple of top notch deserts in their back pocket anyway.

Seemed like Nina had the top two dishes but her other two, especially the dessert, dragged her down. Not having the ice cream machine is a pretty big wrench to throw in the mix. She had to change on the fly and it cost her the title.

I'd much rather eat at Nina's restaurant. Her best was better. That was arguable but it seemed like most were on her side. Because of the process, meaning she couldn't make her dessert, she got dragged down. That's the game. Who know's maybe the dessert she intended to make would be subpar as well.

Seemed like Tom was against everyone else yet Nick still won. Odd.

If not having an ice cream maker kills you, you're not going to win Top Chef.

People have been making gelato a lot longer than there have been ice cream makers in kitchens.

BTW, if Padma had walked in wearing that bikini, I'd have picked her to be my sous chef and just had her stand in the kitchen like that.
