****OFFICIAL**** TOP CHEF THREAD (1 Viewer)

Listen to the Greenwald podcast on Grantland today to know where the judges were with the final judging. Emeril was the guest and pretty much laid it out there

Interesting that Nina's worst dish was the one she repeated every episode since restaurant week.

This marks probably the 3rd or 4th winner who won clearly due to preparation time. He had no job except to get ready for this. I bet that he and his buddy had already rehearsed their dishes together leading in to the filming.

Nina just walked in and cooked the same old stuff, didn't have two desserts ready, strayed outside the competition rules, and really got beat worse than it looked based on the blogs and things.

New series starts tonight: Top Chef Duels.

Episode 1 is Richard Blais vs. Marcel

Two of the most notorious "mad scientists" in Top Chef history face-off once again, Top Chef All Stars winner Richard Blais and competitor celebrity chef Marcel Vigneron. First, Marcel challenges Richard to make a dessert featuring both a hot and cold component while Richard chooses to challenge Marcel to make one of his specialties, a burger. And for their Duel that will decide who moves on to the finale, Richard and Marcel must concoct a three-course meal specifically designed to entice each of the judges' senses. Although Richard won the title when they competed against one another on Top Chef All Stars, never underestimate the power of revenge!

I'm not sure I dig this format.

It would be cool if they did it tournament style and started with 16 chefs to leave one man/woman standing but there's no need to watch this on weeks where I'm not interested in the participants.

They're ripping of Ilan's show on Esquire where two chefs face off each week in a much more raucous and entertaining setting.

Good call.

Terrible.

Just give us another regular season of Top Chef please.

If anyone find these Top Chef duels entertaining, I'd urge you to find Knife Fight on Esquire (look On-Demand if you have to). Drunk well known chefs, getting heckled while cooking really interesting food.

I have next to no memory of Shirley. And that was what? two season ago? All I really remember about brooke is she seemed like she'd be down for whatever.

Shirley was on last season, with Nick winning. It does seem like a long time ago though.

I'm in for this. And doubt I'll be disappointed.

turns out I'm enjoying this show. anyone watching? I'm digging the format.
Turns out I'm not enjoying. I stopped DVRing but will tune in if I remember it's on. I don't know, it just feels like it's lacking something. Maybe the chefs, maybe I'm sick of seeing the usual faces.

depends on the chefs involved. I have liked some episodes other not so much

for the most part though this show is overplayed

Watched parts of 2 and then quit. Next to no interest in the real season. Might catch the last 2 or 3 episodes and any that aren't catering for the main challenge later, maybe.

Too much other good stuff on TV.

Liking the new season from Boston, especially the new format where a chef up for elimination gets to challenge any chef - win and you both stay, lose and you go home.

Also.like how they bring in all the chefs to the judges table so everyone can see what's said to whom.

Anyone else watching?

That Aaron dude making a run at Ilan and Marcel as biggest a-holes in Top Chef history.

Nobody jumping off the page talent wise yet.

I haven't watched for a few seasons, I stopped watching after the pastry and master chef over saturation of the format. The location brought me back, since I'm in the Boston area.

Is all the chef interaction while cooking new? I don't recall all this banter while cooking in the previous seasons I watched. Lots of "how you doing. . ." etc.

I really wish they would bring back Top Chef: Just Desserts or as I like to call it; Top Chef: Gay. That was by far one the most entertaining seasons.

was actually impressed by Aarons exit speech. Too bad he couldn't show that kind of awareness and class while competing. Though i have to admit i did kinda like someone stirring things up a bit as this season has been pretty much

Katsuji is a star. Either here in the U.S. or Spanish-language tv.

If you've ever worked in a pro-kitchen he's the character in there that cracks you up on a daily basis.

Surprised Katie didn't go home last night. They must've really hated Keri Ann's dish...it did seem pretty blah for restaurant wars, even if it was executed correctly.

Katsuji knew she was going down in flames when she made her crepes the day before. And then the mousse debacle just made a bad dish worse. It sounded like Katie's dish at least got some points for being decent. And it seemed like the lot of the miscommunication between the front and back of the house was Keri Ann's fault, even though Katie's greasy spoon-caliber expediting system didn't help.

Thinking Mei wins this thing. I like the season so far. Will see what happens next week with bringing someone back. The big boy from atlanta seemed like he went home too soon.

Biggest blowout in Restaurant wars history.

I think I'd also put Mei as the favorite. However keep an eye on Doug. Little guy is pretty solid.

Bummed to see Adam go, that's the most emotional farewell I recall seeing on the show. Of the remaining chefs I think he was only better than Melissa anyway(Maybe Katsuji). Interested to see what George brings to the table, seems to have solid chops.
