****OFFICIAL**** TOP CHEF THREAD (2 Viewers)

I got the impression that Tom was severely holding last week's mess against Josie. Just another of the inconsistencies of this show. One week they say it's all about this one challenge and the next they take into consideration what they did previously. One week they blast someone for doing something simple (like make "just" a hamburger with pickles), then on another they blast anyone that strayed too far in trying to be different. It would be one thing if they emphasized more that it just wasn't done well (which admittedly, they do mention), but with what they choose to emphasize, I'm surprised more of the chefs aren't :loco: .The guests at the dinner were great, though. One of the more entertaining groups to watch.

a lot of the disconnect and seemingly inconsistent judging is mostly due to how they edit the show. Tom obviously had some carryover anger towards Josie. He just rode her nonstop the entire show and then again in LCK. Even had a smirk on his face when he told her to "leave the kitchen"I thought his relentless "you suck" attitude toward josie made this one of the more entertaining TCs ever

Is Josie the most irritating chef in TC history? Everything about her annoys me - the fake laugh/smile, the excuses and evidently the bad food. I think TC generally helps chefs careers but in this case, the show will probably close many doors. Look forward to seeing Kristen back

I had no idea Wolfgang Puck was so funny. He's has had some of the best lines of the season

Anyone know how that #SaveChefWhoever thing works? I assume this season's finale is already filmed (even though there's some lag between the end of the main competition and the final-four part usually). Is the winning twitter chef invited back for a different season?

Your vote will keep one chef alive for another week. In the end, the last chef standing will compete in the Last Chance Kitchen finale.

Oh. I thought the finale was already filmed (cruise-ship tie-in in Alaska). :shrugh: Thanks.

Lisa was awful. And not in a happy way. Just a drive nails into your eyeballs kind of way.

He's always funny. He has a cooking show that comes on late at night some time, I watch just to hear him talk.

I was thinking Wolfgang was hilarious too.Though the best line of the night was Josie saying she and another one of the contestants both tried a piece of her chicken and it was delicious. And Tom was like: "So Wolfgang, and David Chang, and Emerill, and (insert hipster dudes' names), and Padme and I don't know anything?"

yeah, this save so and so thing has to be for next season.broke down and watched this episode since I heard that josie was gone 2x. All things being equal the finale could be good. If Kristen makes her way back in it then there is some hope yet.

I was actually surprised by how many times he dropped the F bomb. Funny guy

:lmao: Josie so proud to make final 6. Did she forget she's been in the bottom the last like 5 weeks?

So puzzling with all the great chefs this show has had, they chose her to return.

The challenges this season so far have probably been the best ever. I think the only small nitpick would be that there were too many catering challenges for 150+ plates. Less team challenges for the most part and less just absurd theme challenges. At times the food has been middle of the road and boring as a result, but whatever. Still way better than watching that abortion of a season last year or people just throwing out mussels in white wine sauce in a Target.

I'm also glad they got away from making this season one part Top Chef, one part Double Dare with physical challenges and so forth. Having chefs ride bikes and run around neighborhoods was definitely a stretch.

Snoozefest last night. Basically a prolonged cruise ship commercial. Wonder how much cutting they had to do of the chef contestants ripping on that restaurant's goofy food and ridiculous theme. And that waiter was killing me "Your next adventure is a lamb lollipop." Jesus, David Foster Wallace was right about that ####.

I like the question to the head chef "So what's your philosophy on board""Well, we like to use our resources. Like if we want something from India we go to someone from India to cook it and it turns out good."

:lmao: I like the cut to Tom's face after the cruise ship chef was critiquing someones dish. He just had this smirk that was screaming "you've got to be kidding me"

Marcel is hated by some, but he is also really, really liked by many. He had his own show on SyFy for a season and was on Next Iron Chef (made it to the final 4).

Can anyone explain how Kevin, i mean Joshua, is still there? Or why he is there? They film in July, and casting is in ~Feb. So, his wife would have been about 4+ months preggo when he went to try out.

I still don't get how Lizzie made it quite this long. Still a huge mistake for the show to kick John off instead of her when they were H2H. She as far as I can remember didn't win a damn thing all season from that point forward. Sort of an Antonia starter kit playing to the middle and just surviving. Her LCK dish was just exhibit #234 of that.I still don't get how they pull this off. So the save chef is going to go H2H vs. the LCK chef and then back to the show? The voting closes in about 3 hours so who knows.

People miss the births of their children for career reasons all the time. I'm sure he thought he would be cutting it close and had he not gotten on the ship he would have been home in time. And if he was still on board then he was in a good place for the family.

he could've just tried out for next years show. Just makes no sense to me.either way, not sure how he is still on the show given his major mistakes this season and lack of anything creative. Oooh, so he made some good fried chicken.i guess it's due to the relatively low level of competition this year.

Big fan of southern food (Texan bred) but this dude isn't impressive from watching the show. His mentality is let me make this dish as unhealthy as possible, throw in bacon and call it southern cooking. Little creativity involved and he doesn't seem to excel even at basic southern dishes (sans Fried Chicken). I guess that's why he's currently a pastry chef in Dallas but hey, he has a beard and a hipster mustache so he must be a good chef.

He's been one of the least adventurous contestants to advance to the finale. He's beaten the country boy schtick to death. That wouldn't be bad if he consistently nailed the stuff in his wheelhouse. But his execution has been almost as poor as his concepts. If Josie Smith-M was eliminated earlier, I think Josh's flaws would have been more evident.

Lizzie did even less, but she was so mousey and endearing that nobody noticed she had nothing. She's a master cook masquerading as a chef. I'm still not sure Brooke is anything more than a Kelly Liken starter kit. Even her good dishes have big flaws and aren't universally loved. She's also done much better in the 200 plate challenges. When the serving count drops she struggles to scale. She's a tapas chef so this bears watching. They just made some huge blunders getting rid of CJ, John, and Kristen way earlier than they had to. This season is 2x more interesting if they could have cut basically anyone for CJ, Lizzie for John, and Josie for Kristen. At least one of those 3 will get fixed.

I think if you have an understanding wife, you take advantage of the opportunity when it presents itself. Instead of waiting for next year and maybe hoping to get on a different season. He's going to miss something... birth, first words, first steps, first day of school, there's always something. So he picked the one that worked best for his own situation. And like was said above, if he bombed out of the competition early, all he missed was a little of the pickles-and-ice-cream phase of the pregnancy. If he misses the birth, that means he's got a 1-in-4 chance at winning it all. That's probably more logical than waiting for next season and knowing you're going to miss something for sure. If this show works like "Survivor", there are escalating awards for runners-up the further they get in the competition. They may not win the big prize but they get better consolation compensation. This way, he misses as little as possible, with the chance of missing nothing had he gotten knocked out earlier.

good points. suppose it's just a personal decision. No idea how anyone could make it though

The way this season was edited made it appear they went directly from Seattle to Alaska without the pre-finals break from the early seasons. If Josh had been eliminated early, he would have been contractually required to stay at the losers' house in Seattle until taping wrapped. The producers might have given him a pass for the births. I'm assuming this was all discussed with the producers and his family beforehand, or else he's really a ####.

I bet they let the early eliminators go without getting on the boat. If they spent all that money on them they got 0 to show for it.

It kind of feels that way to me too, but Stefan obliterated the competition more often than not during his first go-round and was an also-ran in this group, so that might be deceiving.

I think there is some merit to this. Stefan was clearly the standout in his season...not so this time around. Very good point.

I think Stefan has lost his mind. or at least his edge. Chicken Cordon Bleue? Pork Belly so crispy it could be classified as a deadly weapon?Of course we'll never be able to judge on taste, but the creativity and visually appealing stuff just hasnt been there this year. Sheldon reaches that level occasionally, but everyone else has just been meh

I think Stefan is around for the publicity. Knowing he could go pretty far and not get tossed. Chicken Cordon bleu? Half the time he is ####### with the judges.

That's my thought as well. Had nothing to lose and was just having fun most of the time.

Nothing to lose? $125,000?
