****OFFICIAL**** TOP CHEF THREAD (1 Viewer)

Parma wanted it from Gronk pretty badly. No surprise, when they came back from their break she looked very disappointed. Careful what you wish for.

Disappointed to see Doug the little guy go last week. I could see him getting back in and going to the finals.

Mei is head and shoulders above the fray here. And might I say quite bangable.

Funny, because I think Gregory is far and away the best chef.

Although he didn't succeed in leaving his comfort zone

I thought George should have went to the final instead of Gregory, who played it absolutely safe and didn't really address the challenge of innovation. I guess Gregory has been stronger overall this season though.

Its Melissa's to lose, she is killing it right now and has momentum and confidence.

I think Mei will win, though.

How does the last chance kitchen thing work? I haven't watched a season where they had it.
It's episodes online. The eliminated chefs face off as they get eliminated. Winner faces the next guy out. Winner of that faces the next guy out. Winner of that faces the next guy out. And so on. The final winner gets to go to the finale.
so Doug might be back then, cool wrinkle

I wonder how it would have played out if Whole Foods would have had pork belly in stock.

Can't still think this can you? He's been pretty bad the last 5-6 weeks, plus he's a one trick pony.

Melissa is coming on but from day one Mei has been the best, and I don't see anyone beating her.

It seems to me he cooks the most balanced, best tasting food. I think the reason Tom loves him is because he understands flovrs so well. He is a chef's chef. Gregory doesnt depart what he does well, but he does that stuff really well. If Gregory makes it to the cook the best meal of your life round, I think he wins hands down. If they say cook some Mexican food, he might be in trouble.

He really has not cooked very good the entire 2nd half of the season though has he? His sister out-cooked him.

Anywhere we can see stats on who's been in the top this season, by episode?

This show is much more enjoyable letting 3 episodes build up from restaurant week and going from there on periodic binge watching spree with or without the judges table if things look mostly in the bag. Looking at the castoffs they brought in last night it doesn't appear like anything at all was missed.

The week Doug went off he cooked some awful looking foie thing. Other than that he's been solid every single challenge. This gregory guy seems mostly able to skate by using the old technique of just cooking whatever you want regardless of what the challenge states and hoping someone else ####s up bigger.

I think when he can stay inside his comfort zone of cooking coconut curries, Gregory is probably the best chef on the show. Mei can handle the curveballs thrown at her a lot better, but still always ties them back to her style. Doug seems like he is solid all-around, but cooks simple food. Chefs have done well on the show with simple food in the past, but if the execution is off, it tends to get heavily penalized.

I would've liked to see a Mei-Melissa finale showdown, but oh well.

Hopefully we get Mei (most creative/talented) vs Doug, who is a great underdog story and cooks some real good looking food.

Im surprised Mei beat out Doug. She made guacamole with an ingredient she's used a million times...Doug made a tasty dish with something he never used before, even though the ingredient got lost in the dish. His cheese dish was obviously more liked by the judges than Meis ravioli dish.

If the decision was solely based on those dishes, Doug should have made it...they must have weighed the earlier challenge in the decision, where his dessert underwhelmed.

Rooting for Mei next week.

Mei a deserving winner. It was so close especially with the last dish. But the tiebreaker is Mei went with a dessert that Tom called perhaps the best he ever had.

Gregory may have been able to put out an equally great dessert but given the history of the show I doubt it. I give it to Mei due to the higher degree of difficulty.

Someone bump this when they get rid of the reality stars and get to restaurant week. Was a nice way to enjoy this show last season.

Awesome. Looks like another new episode tomorrow night too. Is it the "win your way in" thing where they take like 20 people each night an whittle it down to the 10 that will actually make the show?
Sounds like they have the 17 finalists that will compete right off the bat for survival."17 chefs converge in Los Angeles for a shot at culinary stardom; first, the chefs face off in a quick fire challenge, then they make dishes for a group of food critics and reporters to survive the first elimination round"

Beverly Kim of Season 9 has a hot (relatively) new restaurant in Chicago called Parachute. Korean-inspired dishes she works on with her partner, who's also a chef. Buzz on this place was really blowing up, so I quickly booked reservations and took the wife a couple weeks ago. Decent, but overall I was disappointed. Korean flavors were spot on, but after the appetizers, the rest of the meal was not that great. Surprised it got a Michelin star.

The girl from Kansas City, Renee Kelly has a restaurant here that my wife and I go to once in awhile. She cooks come good ####. I had some short ribs there that were out of this world. It's a farm to table type restaurant, and she cooks a lot of different proteins and works in locally raised vegetables and such.

Whoa!

Is that Wesley guy Shuke?

I guess he looks more like gutter service Shuke, now that I think about it.

That Phillip guy is a raging doosh. Mr L.A. We get it - you know everyone and everything about the city. Shaddup already.

I liked it a lot. Everything we had was pretty amazing there.
