****OFFICIAL**** TOP CHEF THREAD (3 Viewers)

Ran into her in person a couple of years ago. Padma is stunning, and a bit taller than you'd think when you watch these episodes.

:lmao: That cocktail exchange was funny and summed up how clueless he was.

Jeremy squirmed out of that lunch service debacle nicely. I thought that combined with the awful risotto might doom him.

Seriously. Who boils down their risotto with water. Hell, I don't know any italian person who doesn't use broth/stock and wine. For a chef i'd expect that broth/stock to be made in house as well.

Going into judges table I was all set for Tom to tear Phillip apart for exploiting this opportunity to pimp his own places.

But once it didn't happen. I realized it wasn't necessary. Everyone that was at that dinner knew what his crap strawberry dish is and now knows he got booted for it. Add all of the viewers that watched him suck through most of this.

He's basically a laughing stock now. His business has to be suffering because of being on the show. Tom didn't need to do a thing

That's right. Thanks.

I get why Phillip is gone, but man Jeremy really screwed up badly on this challenge.

I wonder if the judges even knew how far behind Jeremy's team was on the lunch service and didn't finish serving everyone on time. You'd think they'd have been told, but no mention of it.

Interesting group now that Phillip is gone. I think a few have obviously better or worse shots than others, but there seems to be more parity than in a lot of seasons at this stage. Any of the top guys could go home very easily.

Yup. I can't pick a favorite right now. If I had to I might actually pick Marjorie. Good thing is they're all pretty strong.

Yeah, the baker stands a good chance. Thought she was a bit of a ##### to the Cajun guy without much reason for it that I could see, but think she's got a good shot. I liked that he won the Restaurant Wars too after getting picked last. I think he's probably the longest shot to win, but seems like a good enough guy.

Who is Jeremy blowing to escape these last two weeks? I thought he was a lock this week with that weak ### chowder they hated.

Its simple: use canned, frozen, or pre made items, you go home. Frozen waffles? Seriously? The second he said he wanted frozen waffles, I said 'see ya'.  This is Top Chef. You cant even get away with that crap on Hells Kitchen. What an idiot.

I loved the "No one is going to buy 40 mini waffles to share with their office" with the "This is such a great concept! You could buy 40 waffles for your whole office!" bit.
Yea. That was one buffalo who was running toward the cliff edge.

I liked the chicken and waffles idea, unfortunately it was just poorly executed. Kwame was my pick to win it, bummed to see him go. Assume he won last chance.

nope. He's gone and I don't understand how he can bring scrambled eggs to a breakfast cook-off. There's no way that some yolk couldn't have added something to that dish.

Tough going home for toast.

And then the elimination after that was another totally self-inflicted one.

Not unhappy with the 3 in the finals. Probably going to be ok with the lck entrant too
Meh.  Majorie is the only one who seems deserving, though the others who should have been there defeated themselves (e.g., Kwame with frozen waffles).  I like Isaac on a personal level but don't feel he's at the level of Top Chef.  Jeremy has been awful in too many challenges for me to root for him.

Go Marjorie, or whoever gets out of lck I guess.

I was fine with everyone left once Phillip got sent packing.  Early on Kwame and Jeremy would have been my picks to see in the end, but I don't know that I particularly care at this point.  Agree Isaac is probably the weakest chef left, but everyone else messes up enough he could still win it.

I dont know who the clear frontrunner is. Jeremy has came on strong as of late, Marjorie is usually solid, and Isaac is hit and miss. Depending on who comes back, its a crap shoot on picking a winner.

The very clearly showed the returning chef from last chance kitchen during the previews for next week. :wall:
Glad I managed to evade them.  I hate E and AMC for how they put previews before every single freaking commercial.  I'm used to fast forwarding as soon as a show ends, but I'm always scrambling for the remote while actually watching it.

My money is on Jeremy, I still think he's the best chef.  When he isn't losing focus imagining the waitresses in his brew pub breastaurant.

How great is Hubert Keller. What a cool episode.

Jeremy heating up at the right time but he's been so bad lately I can't see him winning. Winner of LCK has a GREAT shot to take it this season.

Kwame is also there running in the same shot, so I guess it's possible that the one you see was eliminated but picked as one of the finale sous chefs.  The LCK winner could just be out of the shot.  Or that's him.  Either way, I agree it's silly to show that quick shot in the previews.

When Jeremy is at his best I think he's the best of the season. Just a matter of which Jeremy shows up.  I kind of think he's going to be focused.

I was kind of cheering for Marjorie as the second challenge started... but partway through I found myself switching to Amar.  Seems like the guy has been underrated. Gets a lot of compliments on his technique, and hearing how much more difficult his dish was than the rest, glad to see him go through.

A few times one of the chefs served nicely seared skin-on fish, but the fillet looked thin enough that getting that sear in a pan should wildly overcook the fillet. Is there some magic trick to getting a nice sear on a thin fillet? Cheat with a blowtorch?

Probably combo of restaurant-caliber burners and chef-quality pans. And tons of training.

This season worth watching at all?  Any decent episodes or challenges that warrant a watch?  Might take a look at 2 or 3 episodes and maybe the last two.

Still think British Bake off surpasses this show by miles.  Been catching some old seasons of that lately.

I've definitely enjoyed this season. Once we got past the first few weeks, all the chefs seemed really strong.

I'd check out the Restaurant Wars episode...they did it a little different this year which made it more challenging. Although I don't think that episode would give you the best impression of some of the chefs.

Be sure to skip the first 2 minutes of the restaurant wars episode - the song they sing is brutal and will invade your brain.

Restaurant Wars from this season is a must watch for no other reason than Padma

I'll put my comments in spoiler for anyone waiting until tonight to watch the finale.  Though you should probably get out of here if so. :)

Spoiler
Goodonya Jeremy.  Even down to the last moment, I couldn't really decide who I wanted to win. I think both were pretty worthy. Jeremy wasn't the most consistent, but his best was probably as good or better as everyone else's best.

Like Amar being in the finals. He got there by doing an apparently technically challenging dish in the magic thing.  I know he was going with his type of food and all, but I have to wonder if he might not have pulled it out if he'd hit the same level but with something more challenging.  Though as I say that, to be fair he did a risotto and we know how those always seem to turn out.  But I think Jeremy's tureen in 2 days one-upped him probably.

Agree with everything in this post (other than the misspelling of "terrine").  Either would have been a deserving winner, but I think the right man won.

Wonder what happened between Amar and Charlie Palmer.  That seemed like such a big, dramatic deal, but they didn't even hint as to what had happened.

Maybe he slept with Palmer's wife.  ;)

Yup good analysis Greg although from the edit I was pretty sure they were going the other way, so I was actually surprised. But I liked the episode a lot and I think I prefer a head to head like this as opposed to the full on restaurant service they've been doing. And that weirdo format the year Kristen won was the worst.

I'll take like two big servings of Amar's lobster risotto please...

Hell yes...of all the things either person served that is the one I'd want the most.

From the edit, I thought it was clear Jeremy was going to win. They showed multiple times when Amar was criticizing Jeremy's approach to the final meal as being too reliant on technique rather than flavor, and I assumed that meant they were setting him up to lose. I also thought Jeremy had clearly performed the best over the course of the season, which might matter if it was really close, which the judges said it was. Glad Jeremy won, I thought he deserved it.

The whole thing between Amar and his mentor was just awkward.  Bring in a guy who apparently still hates you to be your sous chef, while your main competitor is buddied up with one of the best chefs in the country and still a best bud.  It was cringe worthy.

:goodposting:

That didn't seem too fair for Amar.  Even during the tasting, Amar's guy seemed a little bit out to get him.  Jeremy's mentor was touting how he went against his advice and made two ways work while Amar's was taking credit for an aspect of a dish that someone said they liked.

it was a torchon ;)   all season i was certain amar had won because he just opened another restaurant down here.  nice twist for me at the end.

Umm, Charlie Palmer is also one of the best chefs in the country.
