Official US Women's soccer thread: ***Update- US Legend, Tobin Heath to retire. (4 Viewers)

Casey Phair subbed on for South Korea. She turned 16 less than a month ago. New Jersey based dual nat who chose her mom’s home country rather than her American dad.

here is a graphic that shows every player in the World Cup that was born in the US

The Philippines?
big win for them over the hosts last night.
I saw that.. just strange to me that so many of their players were born in the US

Linky to big Yahoo article about the Philippines American accent. Good stuff.

Canada 2- Ireland 1.. double heartbreak for Ireland losing the match and Sinead.

Spain 5- Zambia 0... Spain breezes through to the knockouts with their 2nd win.

Japan 2- Costa Rica 0.... Japan will join Spain.

US 8,347- Windmillers (-)32.... hopefully. game is on at 9pm EST on Fox

They'll need to play better than they did the other night to win IMO. Hard to judge with such an overmatched team, but I thought Vietnam's pressure got to them in possession more than I'd have expected. Obviously the Vietnamese had absolutely nothing going forward, but I thought the US was a little slow moving it around.

Just got home. Seems like NED is dominating so far eh?

Netherlands more possession, but US more shots, more shots on target, and have had some pretty good looks. I don't think it's fair to say either team is dominating. Netherlands doing a good job keeping the ball but US has been dangerous when they get it.

US going to be gassed if they keep chasing like this. Netherlands not only with possession but with smart possession.

NED also really physical.

Take away names and uniforms, and I'd wager NED ends up with a win.

But still so much can happen.

As to be expected with a 433 v 352. You give up possession, especially in the midfield, but the US definitely more dangerous. Netherlands doing well to just do enough to relieve pressure.

I will say, US touch is a bit off. Dunn not have her best match either.

US desperately needs a midfielder who can get on the ball and hold it in traffic. The trouble with Vietnam's pressure sure looks like a trend right now.

To sort it out I'd consider making an enormous change: stop passing the ball directly to the team in orange.

I thought this after the Vietnam game but didn't want to say anything after just one game. But Dunn, Sullivan, Rodman just have absolutely no vision/awareness. They've got great talent/speed going forward but they can't pick out a pass to save their lives. When all the slow oldies came in last game the passing was just so much better.

Watching Horan run all the way from one side of the field to the other on the right half with her hands up and no defender within 30 yards the whole time while the younglings tried to force passes to each other 3v6 was painful to watch.

Credit to DeMelo for figuring out after getting scythed down 5 or 6 times that the ref forgot her yellow cards in the hotel. That's about all I can say in favor of the US team in that half.

USWNT Twitter is calling for Ertz to move to midfield, with Lavelle joining her off the bench and Sullivan going off. Not sure who replaces Ertz in defense, but that's part of the plan too.

I have no idea if that's a good idea, but changing out 2/3rds of that midfield doesn't seem like it could hurt much.

Lavelle made a significant difference. Would have liked to have seen a few more subs. Too much talent on the bench to only have one sub given our level of play today.

Mewis and O’Hara were good 4 years ago but are now 32 and 34 so must be on the back end of it. Rapinoe can’t play in a game like this. Those are the only 3 players on the bench I recognize but I have to think you’re correct that there must be another attacking option on that bench to bring on in this game. Coach was asked this in postgame and said we were dominating so no need for a sub but that seems like BS to me. Yes, Netherlands were not threatening at all in the last half hour. But our attack could really have used some fresh legs and maybe someone with a decent touch and some ideas?

This. Rodman needed to come out late given her performance. I would have liked to have seen Thompson or Williams get a few minutes.
