US Men's National Team (10 Viewers)

Gonna be fun watching poch "experiment" with aarfsten and seb trying to stop Portugal's attacking players
I want to believe the true top team will be there in March, but who are we kidding, this is US Soccer.....
he just mentioned 2 guys on the true top team
I hope not....
So you still have hope for Poch!

Despite being the hope that kills you, I have to have it....

We clearly aren't in the right spot as a team that's 9 months away from hosting the biggest tourney in the world. It doesn't feel like we're moving in the right direction either. So..... what is the solution? Does getting rid of Poch and bringing in another big name coach move us in the right direction? Do we even have the money for that? Is it the players? Are we really just this much worse than we were 3 years ago?

I'm in the same boat as many here. My interest in this team is at a near all time low and it's because I just don't see us having a chance at being competitive next summer and 3 years ago after the last WC there was hope that we were getting close to turning a corner talent wise and just needed the right push to get over that hump. It feels like we've taken 4 steps back since then and have no idea how to get back on track, nor does it feel like we have the time to do so.
I am just thinking out loud here but I do not think we can get rid of Poch at this point. Are there 9 matches left to play before the WC? While not a lot, all we can really do is hope there is an actual plan in place.

I am guessing the match vs Japan will be similar to SK so we are looking for the team and tactics to form over the following 8. With the next window, fewer random call ins and starting lineups, more work with what is expected to be the first team and WC lineup. Guess we will see in the next window.....

I believe tomorrow is when WC tickets sales open for the VISA presale. I registered both my emails, my wife's and my sons. It never asked if we were VISA card holders so how does it know to include us? Or do we just hope we get the email and if we do go in and just have to checkout with a VISA card?

Maybe Poch is setting up the 2nd-greatest Rope a Dope of all time?

Also, meant to ask... was anyone surprised at how lively and not bad at all Zendejas was when he came on? I know we were chasing the game at that point (insert Kenny Smith "looters in a riot" quote), but he looked much better than I expected.
many of us were surprised that he was not included in the Gold Cup squad as he had been coming off a strong multi game showing in Liga MX. I am glad he is getting a chance this camp.

I saw an interesting line up (3-4-3) that I would not mind seeing tonight

.........................................Freese

..................Banks..............Ream...............Richards

Weah.....................Adams................Roldan..................Dest

Zendejas................................Balogun............................. Pulisic

Do we really think Poch switches to a 3-4-3?

While we are at it, I'm hoping to see Klinsmann in goal actually. If we are still looking at people, wtf not? Freese hasn't impressed. Turner is solid but not spectacular. Lets go crazy!

Orher than Banks, whos an unknown to me, that would be a kickass lineup of guys who looked the best to me.

I wouldnt fault Poch for going with his hardon Luna.

Blackmon again. This is a total troll job
damn.

Well, at least it is a back 3 from what I can tell. Sadly no Dest or Weah as the wing backs.

Looks something like this I think

....................................Freese

................Blackmon......Richards.........Ream

..Freeman......................Adams.........Roldan.............Arfsten

....Zendejas...........................Balogun.........................Pulisic

I think it makes sense to take it easy on Dest, who is not really fully fit. And this is a shape that could suit Arfsten, as it's really what he does for Columbus. His offense normally isn't the problem. I don't know. I don't totally hate this. I have no idea how Banks is looking in training, so I guess I'll just hope for the best from Blackmon.

And Weah did come out hobbled vs SK. Hopefully nothing (iirc, i read "cramps"), but like Dest, if youre not giving a **** about allowing these guys to gel, ok to leave out to get healthy.

Poch was also literally complaining about Marseille playing Weah at fullback instead of as an attacker. I'd be very surprised if he's seem much time at all at wing back during this camp.

I was about to say that I was confused by them only seeming to try to get Freeman forward. Switched the attack and the goal came.
They have been playing.on the right almost exclusively but in a build. I hate when coaches over think it...

Right, right, middle...play it back. Over and over. Like they saw film and tried to attack a weakness.

First quick switch left on a counter and boom

So it hasn't been perfect. Japan might end up with more xG than SK did. But I feel like Japan are at least being forced to earn their chances by winning some duels and playing quick. Nothing like South Korea literally walking the ball up and getting a free pass into the area.

I can see the pattern of play and the shape in the back. Including Ream pushing up to win balls and put pressure up high into midfield. Which wasn't something I expected.

I wish we could fuse the best parts of Freeman and Arfsten together. Freeman's athleticism and motor and Arfsten's greater attacking sophistication. Pulisic is clearly having more joy playing on Arfsten's side because Arfsten knows when to overlap and when to drift inside to give CP the space. But Freeman is punishing in transition.

I feel we're getting the full Cristian Roldan experience. On one hand, he's pretty much where he's supposed to be all the time. On the other, he sometimes just can't make plays that are there. He doesn't really take much off the table, but he struggles to add much.

Looks like a 3-4-2-1 which I'm told won't work for Man United, so lets try it for the USMNT. But it does look better at times. Some good interchanges then a wtf pass.
Aside from the goal Zendejas has been a mixed bag. Was a nice cross and goal.
Bologun looks lively, making good runs and combining with CP well.
Adams seems to be off. Also afraid to attack at the top of Japans box

I would be very curious to see this formation with Dest and Robinson.

....................................?? GK ??

................?? RCB?? ......Richards.........Ream

....Dest...................Adams.........McK.............Jedi

.......................Tillman.........................Pulisic

..........................................Balogun

And I say McK because his best is still better than Luna, Roldan, etc. I know this leaves Weah out but he could slot in wide as a sub, or if jedi/Dest needs to play def.

Drop jedi to LB, slide Ream right. Weah where jedi is

Well that was a sight for sore eyes. Slightly better finishing and that is a 5 goal win.

Dominated through out. 11 shots on goal is a very high number for the US against a non minnow.

Pulisic had a rough first half but a switch flipped at halftime and he was back to his old self and was great in the 20 or so minutes he was on.

Roldan is not a great player but I think he fits this team better than Sebbb does. He seemed more comfortable with Adams.

Its a shame we can amputate McGlynn's left leg and give it to Jedi.

It was good to finally see Freeman get forward but he is so raw on the ball.

I am sold on the back 3 (not the players, the formation). I want to see this more going forward in the next window.

Zendejas's play over these two games has earned himself another call up. With the lack of depth on the wings, I prefer him to throwing out Aaronson for the millionth time.

I really hope the experimenting is over. It worked tonight but I think I heard Japan had an entirely different 11 tonight than in recent matches.
Maybe this wakes up the likes of gio et al, but next cycle needs to have the expected starters/2nd line. Ill give poch the benefit of the doubt here, but now its game time.

Alas, I don't think this is the end of "I really need to see xxx:.

he said this was the last time to "look at players"

If he wasn't BSing the November October games should tell us a lot. Lets hope every one is healthy and that Gio gets a run of games.

I don't like that idea. Jedi's strength is getting up and down the wing. His weakness is distribution and passing. You are suggesting moving Jedi to a spot where passing is critical, and mobility is not as much needed (which is exactly why Ream is there in the first place)

Doesn't the US have games in October?
