***Official*** Washington Redskins 2015 Offseason Thread (2 Viewers)

Two things you should know about me:

1. I view my sports loyalties the way I view religion. You pick one as a child -- most likely from your parents -- and that's it for the rest of your life. It becomes part of your identity.

2. I've been a Washington fan since I was nine years old.

I've never had this thought until the past few days, but now I'm really starting to wonder why I still cheer for them. They're terrible. I loathe the owner. Not a fan of the coach either. They have a racist nickname. They are utterly incompetent. Lots of teams have blown first-round picks on franchise QBs who didn't pan out, but only Washington manages to turn it into a never-ending soap opera. Oh, and the one guy who seems like he might be competent is married to a nutjob.

What's left at this point?
I teach in the DC area. Steady increase in the number of student Ravens fans suggests that your "religion" is losing out to the one up the interstate, thanks to the shared TV market and actual success in their lifetimes. The diehard Skins fans anymore all have parents with your level of fandom.

Doesn't have to be the Blackbirds though. Get Sunday Ticket and "convert" to whatever "cult" you like best!

Is there any headline that could come out about this team any more that you wouldn't believe?

And seriously, how does Tony Wylie still have a job?

man, it is kind of unreal.

there's nowhere to go but up though! this pretty much has to be rock bottom right?

listen

when you have been travelling a road your whole life, and it has brought you nothing but grief, there is only one solution

turn around

pull a constanza, do the opposite of what you have been doing, the opposite of what your instincts tell you

in short, become a Cowboys fan :)

I've been at this point for about two years, and I'm here to tell you that if you're like me- and it sounds like you are- there's probably nothing you can do about it. If you grew up here you'll always root for them. You can and should jump into fandom for the other DC sports teams with both feet, and that helps a lot for me, but I'll be a fan of this miserable franchise until the day I die.

At least they're miserable in interesting ways, right? I figure it's better than being a Jags or Browns or Raiders fan. We at least get a soap opera.

The only way I become a Cowboys fan is if my son/ future grandson somehow is good enough at football and plays for the Cowboys. Period. If a nephew or cousin plays for them, NO CHANCE!!!!!

Now just speaking to the future; if I have a future daughter/ future granddaughter that is good enough to play for the Cowboys then I'll probably have to really consider my position in life.

Some points that may be lost in the lastest episode:

1. Diana Russini really did have the inside scoop on this story. If she was inaccurate or guessing, there is no way this happens.

2. There have been signs that Scot McCloughan's marriage is on shaky ground. This really makes it public.

3. Twitter isn't good for athletes. It apparently is not good for front office personnel and their spouses either.

I once heard on 106.7 that said the Redskins are like a reverse carwash. People come in clean and leave dirty. Scot McCloughan may not have been the cleanest guy in the world, but he now looks a lot dirtier.

Is there any headline that could come out about this team any more that you wouldn't believe?

I was totally thinking the same thing. Wylie has to have pictures on Snyder...
It really makes no sense. How can someone be so incompetent at their job and still keep it?
Maybe Mrs. McCloughan's tweet tells us how everything gets done at Redskin Park. Maybe that is how Wylie keeps his job.

This is disgustingly true.

Typically the "if there's smoke, there's fire" scheme of thought can apply to any situation. In this case, it just proves that even a good move in hiring Scotty Mac has shown potential to be another distraction.

Well in his case he already went through the carwash backwards once. So it looks like he is stuck on a conveyor belt at this rate

The most embarrassing part to me is when the team said it was a fake account. I just do not know what was going through their minds at that point.

Snyder should be able to afford the best PR people in the world.

I guess they figured no one would bother looking into it? I mean in this day and age, it's not hard to tell if someone has a fake Twitter account. All they had to do was look at it and realize their son was tweeting her. Why would he be tweeting a fake account? Probably the same reason that Wylie is still here.

I stopped reading after the bolded part.

i mean

at least go with "she was hacked"

no one will believe it, but it is plausible

Exactly. Much more believable than, "it's a fake" when pretty much everyone knew it wasn't.

How's that been working for you the past 20 years? :)

(Yes, I know I am a bitter Eagles fan, and the Eagles have zero lombardi trophies in their trophy case)

@dandalyonsports: The #Redskins are probably wondering: How long before we can post video of Jessica McCloughan handing out turkeys on Thanksgiving? #NFL

Wow, what an absolute disaster. Scotch was supposed to be the steadying factor...

Anyone beside me going to tonight's debacle.

Anyone have any cheap parking tips? I have no parking pass this time.

Was offered tickets and turned them down.

The lot across from Jericho Church is $40 and it's easy to get in and out of. It's maybe 3/4-1 mile away from the Stadium, so it's a little bit of a walk, but it's really not much further than the green parking that's on that side of the stadium.

I would actually be pretty optimistic about the game. The Redskin 2nd and 3rd stringers have done well against their opponents in preseason.

My biggest concern is that the Redskins essentially have 1 QB for this game. There could be a lot of handoffs just so McCoy does not get hit. I think Gruden already said Kirk is the back up for this game and if he enters, expect all run plays.

I loathe the owner.
Unfortunately, can't help you much there. We're all with you on this one.

Not a fan of the coach either.
Temporary problem.

They have a racist nickname.
Probably temporary, but not sure it's changing nearly as quickly as the head coach.

They are utterly incompetent.
Yeah. Best we can hope for is occasionally lucking our way into something semi-nice like the Gibbs 2.0 years or RG3's rookie year.

Lots of teams have blown first-round picks on franchise QBs who didn't pan out, but only Washington manages to turn it into a never-ending soap opera.
Hopefully actually having a legit GM reduces the number of busts, but not sure what he can do about the soap opera.

Oh, and the one guy who seems like he might be competent is married to a nutjob.
Who cares? I really don't get the big deal here. Why do we care what his wife is doing? Did Arizona freak out when Kurt Warner's wife spoke up? Not an issue to me at all.

What's left at this point?
Sports and football are awesome. And like Tobias said, if you're like some of us, you can't shake it. You'll be a fan no matter what. Nothing that's happened takes away that John Riggins moment that made me a fan.

For all the grief Dan Snyder gets(and god knows he deserves it), let s give him credit here. Instead of meddling and pushing rg3 onto the GM and HC, he has stepped aside and let the football guy manage the roster and the HC pick his QB. This is the kind of normalcy I could get used to.
You're kidding right? This entire off-season and last year and the year before are all Dan Snyders fault. Snyder took Griffins side and that's why Shanahan is gone. Snyder hamstrung the Redskins next year by signing griffins extension just so he could prop up RG3's confidence. He has emasculated did your current head coach by forcing RG3 on him all off-season and making him lie front of everybody and tell the world that RG3 is progressing when in reality, he's a hot mess.

Giving Snyder any credit whatsoever for anything other than being a meddling jackass and running the Redskins franchise into the ground repeatedly is insanity.

Nope, not kidding. Lets pretend all of what you're stating is true. Using your synopsis of preceding events as a predictor, this wouldn't have played out the way it is trending. In fact, any scenario that is likely going to lead to RG3 being off the team in a wk would be the least likely possibility. Nobody would deny the fixation Snyder has for rg3.

But if that's the case, then why is this happening? Well, the likely answer is its not a decision he's playing an active role in, or at minimum, he's choosing to not intervene. The fact that a GM was hired for the first time in 15 years is too much of a coincidence to ignore. Its more likely that this is scotch's decision and Snyder is taking a passive approach. In that case, yes, Snyder deserves credit. That's a step in the right direction for his development as an owner. Hopefully, he continues to adopt this practice going forward and lets the football guys, scotch or someone else in the future, continue to make the personnel decisions.

I understand the bias and vitriol against Snyder, he deserves it and hasn't earned any equity with any of us, but underneath this shift away from rg3 by the franchise is something very positive. Football decision, football guy.

Nothing insane about seeing through the noise here and considering something positive is actually happening in all of this.

My cousin has lived her whole life in the DC area. She was a kid/young adult for all the Super Bowls. Her kids (ranging from 9 to 14) are all Ravens fans.

Smart kids. Very Smart.

Keeping RG3 as the second string QB this year has Snyder's name all over it. It seems like he's meddling again. I don't know why I'm saying "again" he most likely never stopped.

Worst owner ever.

Just seems to play out as RG3 somehow getting hurt and getting his guaranteed money for next year as well; thus another year of distractions. But as soon as the RG3 distraction is mitigated, the name issue will swing back into full force.
