Shaping up just like last season with the Indians taking the WhiteSox place on top. Good thing the Tigers have played the AAAstros 7 times or they could be under 500 right now.
Other than V-Mart just killing the middle of the order the team been very good at the plate. I always though V-Mart was way too good of a hitter to be struggling the way he has been.

Really can't afford to lose Austin Jackson, definitely understand the precautionary DL to prevent something much worse from happening.
Won't beat them for Jay-Honey like I did the last 2 years though. They wanted to upgrade the position, just couldn't.

How long before the Triple Crown talk starts up again? How amazing is it that he's in the hunt again (early as it is)?
But our pitching in that series - ugh. Fister didn't have it ...Leyland should have pulled him earlier. He wasn't going to regain his form 100 pitches into the game. Thank goodness we've got Porcello to carry the team along.

Fister never gets hit hard though, another game with some ridiculously lucky hits. With Sanchez and Verlander you have to give credit to the Rangers who are hot right now but Fister is more unlucky when he's bad than he is ineffective. His BABIP is almost .340 right now which is 40 points higher than his career/ML average. Mostly he has looked really good IMO, last night he was just ok but not as bad as his final line (same with the Nats game).

Take out the fiasco against LAA in April (9 runs allowed in less than an inning of work), and he has been decent in six starts. He's thrown at least 90 pitches in each, and averaged 97 ...seems to have a little more endurance than in the past.

The two doubles that Beltre hit, which accounted for three runs in one way or another, were the weakest, strangest doubles you could hit.
I felt really bad for Coke, he deserved better. 4 bonehead plays on defense in one single inning.
I don't get to watch Detroit much, but after watching all four games, I can see why you guys bang your head so much in this thread. Miggy was great with three HRs, but the play that sticks out to me was him failing to cover third on the bunt. Felt like a lot of hits up the middle of the infield and to the left side that more mobile infielders would have gotten to. Don't get me wrong, I would sell my soul to have Miggy on my team, but I would hope my GM would build a team to cover up what he doesn't do as well.
And man I hope V-Mart is spending overtime handing out Leadership, because he doesn't deserve to hit fifth in this lineup right now. It's like a reward if you can get past Miggy and Prince.

Retired 22 straight, that ain't bad. Jose had the splitter working again tonight but I still don't trust him.
I like this Cabrera kid we picked up, he just might stick in the bigs.

Valverde is still a mess. I just hope they make a move by the trade deadline because he isn't the answer. Drives me nuts how he can't hold any runners on so once a hitter gets to first he is pretty much guaranteed to get in scoring position. Where is Jason Grilli when you need him?

Jeff Jones better figure out what the #### is wrong with Verlander, it isn't something physical. Does anyone think his motion looks different? Looks like there is more movement there now. Anyone?

I have no idea what is wrong but yes his motion and whole demeanor on the mound looks different. Looks like he has no confidence at all in his pitches. 100 pitches and 10 hits in 4 innings??

Hopefully they can still escape with the win, storms notwithstanding. (Did rain or approaching storms affect JV in the bottom of the fourth? He had settled down nicely in the third, then got rocked. Rushing to be the weather? Just tired?)
Maybe JV needs to skip a start to rest or work on form. Blasphemy, I know, but they have plenty of arms - let Smyly fill a slot.

Well he refused to look at the tape of the Texas game. Ok. Does he own the franchise now???
He better look at some ####### tape tomorrow, he's moving his head or upper body and Tre said he's landing more on the first base side. I don't get paid to figure out what's wrong, Jeff Jones does. Make him watch the tape Jeff, your employer finds it appropriate.

The two splitters Potato threw to Santana looked like the bottom completely dropped out of them, haven't seen that since 2010. 94-95 mph fastball, splitter looks awesome and when he throws strikes he looks pretty damn good to me.
Holding on runners is a legitimate problem, but he is pitching darn well. I would not say he is a mess. He stabilized the bullpen.Valverde is still a mess. Cleveland - Justin Verlander really wanted to go back to the mound after the first rain delay on Wednesday night
As in really, really wanted to.
"He hugged me for 10 minutes," manager Jim Leyland said about the decision to break his own rule of no pitcher staying in the game after a delay of more than an hour.
This delay was an hour and two minutes.
And Leyland said he usually breaks the rule "for no one."
"I'm an hour guy and I usually don't bend that for anybody," he said. "But I stretched it and took a shot.
This was worthy of being an exception.
For one thing, Verlander — while not putting together an attractive pitching line (5 innings pitched, 10 hits , 5 earned runs) — felt he made progress toward getting back to being himself on the mound.
He admitted he was "up and down" against the Indians in what turned out to be an 11-7 victory for the Tigers, but when the rain came the first time, the game was only two outs short of becoming official.
The Tigers led at the time 9-5.

we see if the tigers can keep the Twins streak (losing) alive. As a Twins fan I see a ugly weekend ahead for the Twins and lots of HR's for the tigers

He left a game about a month ago with a blister. I wonder if he (or more importantly his curveball) is still feeling the effects of that. Just a guess.

Dang! Of course, when opposing pitchers have more flexibility, they often walk Miggy ...and the last six times he walked, Fielder has followed with a hit.
Another good win! Max being Max, Garcia coming through as a PH, Smyly finishing up strong. Nice of Boston to rally strong in the 9th and get a win over Cleveland.

After watching Sanchez and Max this past two weeks, is it possible that we have the luxury of discussion our third best pitcher here?

Indians' closer Perez, who had a shoulder strain during spring training, is on the DL after having some recent shoulder issues - not a good development for the Tribe.

5 @ 15 could be tough unless Porcello improves and gets some luck.

How and or why is Brandon Inge still playing MLB? Just looked at his career stats and it is hard to believe that Oakland picked him up last year with their saber-metric philosophy..and why Pitt picked him up this year. I could understand at 36 if Inge was a contact hitter who worked the count and was always on base..but he was so Inge today. Pitt has to have some prospects that are better than Inge.

Inge was picked up strictly for depth. He's a bench player who can provide occasional relief to Pedro. The Pirates really don't have many hitting prospects who are major league ready. Inge sucks but he has some utility given the inconsistency of Pedro.
Porcello has been very solid in his last couple outings after being about on the brink of losing his job. It is a very long shot for him to get to 15 at this point though. The other 4 are ahead of the pace at this point in the season (30 percent through and all have five or more wins). I doubt if a team has ever had 5 15-game winners, so it was an extremely bold suggestion that it could happen. I am not even sure how many times if ever a team has had 4 15-game winners.
