Mowed down half a pumpkin roll and am tempted to finish it off.You fatties able to get through the day today without stuffing pumpkin pie in your faces?
but Otis it’s the holidaze 11!!
smoke first, then blitz on grillI will have to work on my technique. Whenever I smoke chicken I think I do it a bit to low and though the meat comes out wonderful the skin is rubbery rather than crisp, and with wings, well they are half skin.
Always smoke first. It makes everything better.smoke first, then blitz on grill
ETA: Don't think a convection oven gets hot in the same way as an airfryer but could be wrong
Currently counting down the hours to polishing off that pumpkin roll. How is everyfatty doing today?
How tall are you, if you don't mind me asking? I need a rabbit to try to chase and I'm 6' even on a good day so Otis isn't a great comp.233. Hmmm was healthy Monday and Tuesday and not a complete disaster this past weekend. Ran last night.
Looking at at map I think I need to cut out a bit more of the salt and carbs.
Depressed. Went to my primary care physician yesterday for a referral. Got weighed and measured. Weight was what I knew. My height, well according to her it is now down to 6'1.5". The inevitable shrinking with age is really setting in. I miss being taller. How is everyfatty doing today?

Good luck, I'm 40 and have to get in to a Dr soon. I've been putting it off because of my weight. I hope that all is benign.Depressed. Went to my primary care physician yesterday for a referral. Speaking of that visit it was for a referral to check out a recent mole development. The nurse has me take off my shirt and asked what I might be concerned over. Before I can speak up she says "Oh never mind, I see it". The Doctor then comes in and the exact same exchange takes place. The thing I so obvious, and the concerning state of it so apparent that they both had their eyes drawn to it. Seems bad bed-side or exam manner to treat it that way.
I was a red-headed, freckled youngster who spent far too much time in the sun. Decades latter there is a price to [pay, or maybe not. Thus far I have had 20 or so skin matters looked at. All benign except one, and that readily taken care of. Hopefully this one as well. I'm not particularly concerned as it has become sort of routine for me.Good luck, I'm 40 and have to get in to a Dr soon. I've been putting it off because of my weight. I hope that all is benign.
He’s probably back on Tuesdays when the kids are away at their play groupI saw a couple of photos of myself from when I was 22. I was a tan, tall, handsome, athletic young man. Like a different person.
That guy will be back.
That photo of me playing qb almost ten years ago (best shape of my life) pops up a few times per year on my Facebook feed. And I have a couple of ####### friends who like to post it on group texts from time to time. It’s definitely tough to see.I saw a couple of photos of myself from when I was 22. Welcome to adulthood.I don't know.
The version of Woz I reference above was almost ten years younger, worked only 40 hrs./week in a far less stressful position, and had no kids or other real responsibility. My standard day was run several miles before work, work 8-5, crossfit at 5:15 until 6:00 or so, eat a high protein-based dinner, then play softball, basketball, football or some combination thereof until about 9:30 PM, then still have plenty of energy for some porno-level sex until like 11 PM. I probably burned well more than 2k calories per day.
Currently, with working ~60 hours per week doing higher stakes stuff, trying to care for two kids <4 and have quality time with them (oldest just started preschool so my morning routine had to adapt to taking her to school), and at least see my wife during waking hours, I have max one hour per day where I can work out. And at night I'm just exhausted. So, even with "good days" being days where I eat healthy, stay away from booze, and run 5k or weight train, I'm still nowhere near the level of what I was doing ten years ago. Ergo the guy the guy who was a Steve Young type on the flag football field is dead and gone.
This.Welcome to adulthood.
All of this can be worked around, you just don't need to go full blast. Cut your calories to a 500 deficit and do something for 20-30 minutes a day. Take the kids/dog on a walk, go for a run, do some yard work, whatever it may be. Some days make it tough, others just go easy.
And seriously, STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF EVERY DAY!
I used to be 6', now about 5'11.5" ish. 1 year ago I was 235. Now down to about 195. Been holding steady in the 195-199 range since April-ish. Started moving down again lately. Hoping for 180ish by the end of the year but have to get serious again for that.I'm exactly your height (5'11" - 6'ish).
For my build, I was under 10% body fat at 175 lbs. and probably just as strong as I am now (so, my baseline for an "ideal weigh" is 175). Obviously the added 60 lbs of essentially dead weight doesn't help and isn't appealing.
This is one of my big motivators. I care more about the trend than any 1 day weight but knowing I "have to" step on the scale every morning helps keep me accountable to not stuff my face throughout the day with empty calories. And seriously, STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF EVERY DAY!
Do what now, big fella? You two should exchange photos and tug one out together
I absolutely love working out and I look forward to it. I don't view it as an extra. I just apparently chose poorly in my choice of professions and now I'm in a position where I need to work continually as hard to maintain the lifestyle my wife and I have chosen for our kids. It's not like I'm saying, "meh I'd rather binge watch The Office for a few hours tonight than work out" or anything like that. It's either i don't have a choice because x fire needs to put be out at work or it's like 7:00 PM and it's either work out or see my kids.This.
It might mean waking up early to get it in. It might mean forgoing some time for yourself or even some time with your wife. You can't have that quality time every single day if your schedule doesn't allow it.
The problem is that you're looking at this time to exercise as an "extra' instead of a priority. It needs to be built in and you need to work other parts of your schedule around it. It's an important part of taking care of yourself so that ultimately you can keep taking care of your family down the road. It takes time and it's a commitment but it's important.
It's not just a side thing or a bet you take part in every once in a while or do whenever it's convenient. You need a new mindset about it.
So, uh, what did you do....?I used to be 6', now about 5'11.5" ish. 1 year ago I was 235. Now down to about 195. Been holding steady in the 195-199 range since April-ish. Started moving down again lately. Hoping for 180ish by the end of the year but have to get serious again for that.
Vegan keto sounds cool.Oh, you guys are still doing regular keto? That's cool, i guess, whatever works for you. Me? Oh, I'm doing vegan keto, and let me tell you all about the benefits of a vegan keto diet, as opposed to just straight keto... also, i am learning to breathe through my eyelids because my personal sherpa told me it aligns the chakras.
Sorry, had to do that. Was just laughing to myself about how ungodly annoying I could be with the combo of keto and veganism, but I started this weekend. It's hard. I keep wanting to eat meat, or at least dairy. But, i have noticed a "lightness" to my body just in moving around. :humblebrag:
Aaaaaaaaaand, we are officially back to full Bale.Vegan keto sounds cool.
Maybe almost as cool as my low cal intermittent fasting keto.
First couple of months it was just eating smarter - no crazy diets or anything, just quit going out to eat for breakfast and lunch and a little bit of portion control for dinner. Then about this time last year a friend challenged me to do a half marathon with him and I basically did a couch to HM program.Zow said:So, uh, what did you do....?

I’ll be at the gym tomorrow for leg day at 5am when it opens. I’ll be home by 6 before my family wakes up.Zow said:I absolutely love working out and I look forward to it. I don't view it as an extra. And unless you’re struggling to make ends meet, cut back on your work responsibilities.This.

This guy gets it. Also, lower your standard of living.Work to live. Dont live to work. If the work isnt done by quittin time then it waits til tomorrow.
There's no reason he needs to do that. If he wants to workout, he needs to find an hour during the day he can commit to doing that. For some people that's lunch hour. I have no idea how people can do that because inevitably #### comes up in the middle of my workday, or I have work lunch meetings, and it just would never stick. For some people it's at the end of the day. I have no idea how they do that if they have a family and responsibilities at home--I did that when I was in my 20s, but no way could I do it now. This guy gets it. Also, lower your standard of living.
While I agree about getting exercise done in the early morning (because it energizes your entire day), I wholeheartedly disagree with putting in long hours at work unless 1. You like your job better than life outside of work and/or 2. You’re forced to because of financial responsibilities. The latter is somewhat under one’s control, and I’ll never understand the concept of sacrificing time/health for a job. There's no reason he needs to do that. Process of elimination, and the only thing that's left is the morning. So get up more than an hour before everyone in your house. If that means working out at 6, then workout at 6. If it's 5, then 5 it is. Or 4:30. Etc.
I'm up at 4:45 not because I enjoy it -- it's miserable getting out of bed at that hour -- but because I don't have any other choice. I'm often pretty zapped early and rarely go to bed after 9:30, but that's fine.
Woz, our work lives and families and schedules are probably somewhat similar. I'd encourage you to force yourself into becoming a morning person. The added benefit is between sets in the gym you can knock out e-mail from overnight like a boss ("Man, you guys see that new guy woz?? Hell, he's up and working in the 5s...."), and you may even get a few minutes between getting home from the gym and the youngest waking up to have a coffee while you do some deeper work or work reading. By the time you hit your desk at 9am like a boss, you've worked out and you're caught up on e-mail and know what your day looks like. As much as I hate waking up early, it's so worth it for these benefits.
He just said he hits his desk at 9am. Some people don't mind working harder or longer if it makes them some more money which allows them more opportunities, comforts, security for their families, etc. It's all trade-offs, and we all view them differently. While I agree about getting exercise done in the early morning (because it energizes your entire day), I wholeheartedly disagree with putting in long hours at work unless 1. If he’s wealthy enough to live as comfortably as it seems, and his health has suffered because of his job, then he’s either working too much or in the wrong profession. (I assume you’re referring to Otis). He just said he hits his desk at 9am. That's not long hours.
Sure it is, if someone works late, and works weekends, and travels often (not necessarily me). Not sure what you mean here.He just said he hits his desk at 9am. That's not long hours.
Understood, but I don’t believe in busting one’s hump while young/middle age for a comfortable standard of living if it sacrifices years of life and impairs quality of life due to chronic medical illnesses. Some people don't mind working harder or longer if it makes them some more money which allows them more opportunities, comforts, security for their families, etc. It's all trade-offs, and we all view them differently.
I'm not sure my health has "suffered"--maybe a little overboard. I'm just carrying around an extra 20lbs like most Americans. And while I often have blamed my job, especially when times are crazy and stressful, in the end my job doesn't force cake into my mouth. I don't think woz or I -- the people I assume we're talking about here -- fall into this category. But yeah, in general, I agree with you people shouldn't work themselves into poor health. If that's happening, something is wrong and needs to change.Understood, but I don’t believe in busting one’s hump while young/middle age for a comfortable standard of living if it sacrifices years of life and impairs quality of life due to chronic medical illnesses.
Maybe not yet, but middle age is when things like diabetes, heart disease, liver dysfunction, osteoarthritis, gout, etc. all surface - and they’re largely preventable.I'm not sure my health has "suffered"--maybe a little overboard. This won't be pretty. Can't wait to watch.
I’m back from another TO. I hate that the missed this. I’d love another chance to kick BB’s buttGUYS STOP GIVING OTIS EXTRA MOTIVATION KTHXBAI
I punched 3 holes in my last belt and finally a week ago bought a new one. Felt good.Congrats, This is my favorite thing. I have had to punch 2 new holes in my fat boy belt, so far! When I started, at my heaviest, i was on the 2nd to last notch out at the other end. I can measure gains in inches off my waist!
You provided good motivation and what you've done is beyond impressive. I actually did keep the weight off and am basically right where we finished the last challenge. I'm pretty sure that the group of us beat the general population rate of keeping it off.I’m back from another TO. I hate that the missed this. I’d love another chance to kick BB’s buttbut alas I’ve done the foolish thing of keeping it off for a while. I’m in to donate $50 in the name of the winner.
As for me - kind of treading water - had an enormous cheat day yesterday - started yesterday at 160.2 and this morning was 164.7![]()
Start a 9-day vacation tomorrow- goal is to have a good time and be sensible eating while running and swimming every day. I may come back at 160 or 170 but either way when I get back I’ll begin OPERATION 6-PACK. I’m going to do 7 weeks up to Thanksgiving and make myself miserable with my diet and exercise.
LET’S GO!!!!
You are a beast - you would have probably beat me if you were not training for your race - you had to balance the two. I just had to lose weight. What you and Duck do intrigues me but not sure I’ll ever get there. And what SayWhat does is just insanity. You provided good motivation and what you've done is beyond impressive. I can't remember the details but my bet was that no more than 3 or 4 people that started the challenge in 2018 would keep their weight off for a whole year. There were more than enough that did so I paid out. But I don't really know exactly what percentage pulled it off -- it seemed at the time like the percentage was low, just not low enough for me to win the bet.You are a beast - you would have probably beat me if you were not training for your race - you had to balance the two. On your last point it would be interesting to revisit. I think @fatguyinalittlecoat Was the one who wanted to make a bet that 4 of us wouldn’t keep it off - not sure what happened there but you me, you and @Bluto Blutarsky have all kept it off and I’ve gone on to lose 30 more.
But here’s the thing - I know I have to continue to stay on top of things or I could be signing up for another contest in a year. I don’t take any of this for granted .
