Paul McCartney or Eagles--Which Show to attend? (1 Viewer)

If you could only attend one, which would you buy tickets for?

Both the Paul McCartney tour and the Eagles tour are coming to DC this summer within weeks of each other. One at Nationals Park the other at Verizon Center. Assume the price for the tickets was roughly the same and the seats were equivalent, but you could only go to one show. Which show would you want to attend?

 
Tough call. I don't know the venues so Moe's suggestion would be valuable to me going in blind. I think I'd also be giving a lot of say to the company I'd be going with, and whether romance or party. Might lean towards McCartney since I've seen the Eagles--long ago.

 
Enjoyed McCartney's early "Wings" albums and saw him already. Not so much later stuff. Voted Eagles as I haven't seen them.

 
As much as I love the Beatles, at this juncture I'm more interested in seeing the Eagles than Paul solo. Heard Bernie Leadon is going to re-join the Eagles FWIW.

 
I saw Sir Paul at Wrigley Field a couple years ago ...fantastic show. If you're into it, hearing a couple of the original Beatle tunes performed live is very cool.

I saw both in the mid 90s. I would be more likely to see Paul again for the reason Tri-Man suggested.

 
McCartney without a doubt. Eagles tickets are easy to come by and they play in the US a lot more frequently than Paul.

 
I've seen both. Paul is past the point where he can carry the notes that we are used to him singing. The acoustics at Nationals Park are going to be horrendous at best. It's a baseball stadium.

Not the biggest Eagles fan in the world, but they put on a pretty nice show. I'd go see them again before an aged Paul.

And the Who announced their Farewell Tour back in 1982. :shrug:

The difference being that the Who actually intended on being through and they stayed away for seven years. They also haven't billed any other tours as farewell tours. Not at all appropriate to compare the Who to those pricks. Not even the Stones play the farewell card.

The difference being that the Who actually intended on being through and they stayed away for seven years. They also haven't billed any other tours as farewell tours. Not at all appropriate to compare the Who to those pricks. Not even the Stones play the farewell card.

Don Henley said a long time ago that the farewell tour names were conceived as a joke, which is why they begin using a Roman numeral in the names such as the Farewell 1 Tour. He said they like to poke fun at their generation, and who knows with their age one of the farewell tours could be the truth.

And if people are misled by "farewell" being in the promotions for the tour, oh well. Hilarious!

Sorry. I just really hate the ####### Eagles, man. And Paul is Paul.

 
Sorry, but Paul isn't Paul. Not the Paul we grew up with and he can no longer come close to carrying the tunes for which he is beloved. He is staggering around out there for no better reason than the Eagles are. And the Eagles make better music now than Paul can.

I don't think most people go to see shows because they think it's really a final tour. I do think you are just trying to find anything to rag on The Eagles about.

My guess is that you haven't heard too much of McCartney's later stuff since it gets very very little air time. Aside from his "Kisses on the Bottom" LP of standards, Macca's been on a roll with his last 6 LPs. They are all damn good records.

 
I wouldn't go to either one, since I am not willing to pay a couple of C-notes to see either one.

But if money wasn't an issue.....it's a tough call. I would choose Paul if I knew he would play only classic Wings and classic Beatles songs....songs that made him the legend that he is.

I would suspect the Eagles would play more classic hits of the 70s, so I would lean towards them.

To me, he's talented enough that I'd probably be entertained even if I'd never heard the songs before.

 
Have to go with "youth" here. Sir Paul is 71..the Eagles are all 5 years younger.

Here is the thing and with Revolver as my avatar, I am in NO WAY objective.

If you've never seen Paul, I have no idea how you wouldn't choose Paul. He was a Beatle for crying out loud. His range isn't the same as it once was, but at 71, he can still sing as well as a lot of guys half his age. The Eagles were a very good band, and I have seen them live and they were great, but seeing Paul friggin' McCartney is something you can tell your grandkids about. It's as close as you're going to get to seeing the Beatles.

I've seen them both and I would still go see Paul, but like I said, I'm not objective.

Well, it was recorded for a DVD release, but the crowd reaction is real. I've been to McCartney's shows and I've seen it. Grown men crying...

 
If you have to ask, there is little reason to explain to you why it isn't even close.

Easy choice for me, McCartney. Never saw McCartney but I did see the Eagles in 1980 about a month before they broke up.
