Police ambushed and killed in "start of revolution" in Vegas (1 Viewer)

Yes. Clearly this could have all been solved by preeminently killing everyone at the Bundy ranch.

Some real genius in here.
"Real genius" is spinning what I wrote into sending in the SEALs and/or firing squads to mow people down. But if a few of the armed "patriots" there opened fire on local/State/Federal law enforcement for doing their jobs? Then said law enforcement returning fire would have been 100% A-OK by me.

The real point here in my estimation is that the right wing media does everything in its power to radicalize its audience. There's no shortage of Obama is the antichrist/hitler/etc. in MAINSTREAM media outlets.

There's always going to be kooks on the right and the left but the level of rhetoric from mainstream Republicans/conservatives is outlandish. This weekend Rand Paul suggested Obama send 5 democrats to the taliban for the soldier. Received with wild appluase at the Texas Republican Convention. This is a front runner for the Republican nomination. Nothing is beyond the pale for even mainstream conservative politicians.

So we whip up the base with every accusation in the world. Literlly nothing appears to be out of bounds.

Then one takes action from the rhotoric and then "he's crazy". Ever notice how a responsible gun owner all of a sudden becomes and idiot when he accidentally shoots himself or someone else? It's the classic no true scotsman argument.

NO ONE COULD HAVE POSSIBLY PREDICTED.

I mean attempting to get people health care for instance has been linked to Hitler, fascism, gubment takeover of our lives etc etc etc. Reasonable gun control measures are THE END OF THE WORLDZZZZZ.

Guess what. Radical language is radicalizing.

If you spend a decade or more whipping up the crazies at least have the balls to own it when they do crazy stuff.

Both sides do it in 3....2.....1.....

CNN said they were at the Bundy ranch too. Anti-gov militia types with swastikas at their home and a documented hatred of police and government.
:kicksrock:

This is what I was talking about. Morons emboldened by what took place at the Bundy Ranch...encouraged by the (certain) media's trying to lather-up the Right's more-fringe elements.

"For those unaware, Clive Bundy in Bunkerville, who (along with many of the militia folks that came with him) proclaim that only the county sheriff has legal authority. Las Vegas Metro Police is his local county sheriff. The pizzeria and Walmart in question is on the east side of town. Bunkerville is north-east of the city."

The Feds should have never backed down in that stand-off at the Ranch. Even if it would have ended in gunfire. As now we're probably going to be forced to deal with even more death/gunfire as a result of said actions. I guess America doesn't negotiate with terrorists...unless the terrorists are American citizens...
This is nonsense.

Yeah, I don't love the Bundy bunch either, and I called them wackos too (in a political sense, they are.) But 99.99% of those people on the Bundy ranch had NOTHING to do with this crime, and never would have anything to do with it, and did not encourage it in any way. The people who performed this horror had something wrong with them; that something, whatever it is, would have manifested itself whether they were inspired by right wing propaganda, or left wing propaganda, or Dungeons and Dragons, or listening to Led Zeppelin backwards.

See also open carry idiots in Texas. Thats a direct result of decades of BS from the NRA and other outlets. But they go out and start scaring the crap out of people and suddenly the NRA wants them at arms length.

See also bombing Abortion providers/shooting them at worship services. That is direct a action resulting from a ton of radical rhetoric. From mainstream sources. Governor Borwnback in my home state is a prime example in the abortion issue.

Talk crazy long enough and people start acting crazy. Weird I know.

I'm sick and tired of the "PC police" preventing us from profiling white conservatives. We we pulling grandmothers and kids out of lines at the airports and subjecting them to special scrutiny just so we claim we're not discriminating when we all know who the real threat is- white conservatives.

And why haven't we heard any white conservative groups come out and publicly condemn these attacks? Their passivity suggests they condone this violence. It's time for them to step up and take action.

Clickbait is part of the problem with the short attention span media we've cultivated as well...

Look at tech headlines (stoking android vs iOS fanboy flames and such)... the slew of "This man did something amazing, you'll NEVER believe what happened next.." trend of crappy articles.... etc.

The sensationalizing of these incidents can make them seem more prevalent than they are... and it can also plant the seed in another nutjob's head who perhaps never would have considered that type of action. "Oh man, if those guys would have just done THIS it would have worked much better".

Until we better identify and treat those with mental illness, better identify radicalized groups inside our own borders (let's not pretend for a moment there's not hundreds if not thousands of domestic terrorists plotting), and address our media's handling of similar issues.... nothing's going to change.

But both sides DO do it, Jackstraw, and they always have. You don't think the Occupy Wall Street Movement had rhetoric that was disturbingly close to what the Unabomber wrote? Or that the Peace Movement of the 1960s didn't influence the Weathermen or the nuts who kidnapped Patty Hearst? Of course they did. But by "influence", you can only go so far. In the end, the responsibility for evil lies with the people who did it. Period.

There is always going to be radical speech, so long as we live in a free society. Would you rather live in a society that dampens speech?

Both sides DO do it, Tim. But only one of those sides will typically claim that they are "doing God's work," "on God's side," "doing God's will." Only one of those sides has been in bed, whispering sweet nothings to the National Rifle Association, arming themselves to the nines. And if the Middle East has taught us ANYTHING in our generation(s)?! It's that people will go one HECK of a lot farther in not only their words, but their actions, if they think they have "God on their side." Including being willing to die for said beliefs. Kill others for said beliefs.

It's why I cannot stand the modern-day Republican Party.

If I see a dark-skinned guy enter my office wearing traditional Muslim attire and a light-skinned guy enter my office with an anti-Obama t-shirt, I'd feel a lot safer if security focused on the latter.

Residents at an apartment complex where it appeared the two lived together said they had a reputation for spouting racist, anti-government views, bragging about their gun collection and boasting that they’d spent time at Cliven Bundy’s ranch during a recent standoff there between armed militia members and federal government agents.

The couple was identified this morning as Jerad and Amanda Miller, according to the Lafayette Journal and Courier newspaper.

According to one police official and a witness, one of the shooters shouted, “This is a revolution” and “We are freedom fighters.”

The duo also told people they planned to commit a mass shooting, said Brandon Moore, a resident of the complex. "They were handing out white-power propaganda and were talking about doing the next Columbine," Moore said.
At 7:30 p.m., law enforcement started knocking on tenants’ doors and asked them to leave the building. Some were put on a bus and taken to a local motel. Others waited in the surrounding area in hopes of re-entering their home before sunrise.

Sara Andrea, a resident of the complex, said the assailants were known to walk around town dressed as the Batman comic book characters The Joker and Harley Quinn. "No one associated (with them), but everyone knew these people," she said.

Residents who spoke about the assailants all mentioned the couple's relationship with Bundy. Oak Tree resident Sue Hale said the two told her they were in Bunkerville during the standoff, which occurred in April after federal authorities began conducting a roundup of Bundy’s cattle. Bundy had defied the government by grazing the cattle on public land without a permit. "Yap, yap, yap. They were always running their mouths," Hale said.

Around 9:30 p.m., locals reported hearing an explosion. By 11 p.m. a convoy of SWAT vehicles were seen leaving the apartment complex.

Catherine Riley lives less than a block away from the apartments. She said she and her husband heard the blast while settling into bed to watch a movie.

"We felt a shake and it sounded like a bomb went off," she said. Hale, who was sitting at a bus stop at 11:30 p.m. with two of her neighbors at the Oak Tree Apartments, said she heard the blast as well. Law enforcement on the scene declined to comment, saying they were told to wait until a news conference scheduled for 10 a.m. today.

Hippies from almost 50 years ago and trustfunders that got pepper sprayed and beat down by the cops. If that's your examples it proves MY point more than yours.

Meanwhile in Texas RIGHT NOW:

A 60-year-old Collin County woman, who asked not to be identified, said she was driving to a mall in March when she saw men with guns on a State Highway 121 overpass. She did not know they were Open Carry members, and she called Plano police.

Several weeks later, an Open Carry supporter posted her name and phone number on YouTube. She began to receive threatening texts and calls, she said.

“They were calling me names I haven’t heard since I was in middle school,” she said. “They were calling me a whore and all kinds of nasty names. … I think there’s some really crazy, unstable people out there

Radical Fundamentalists are an issue in our country right now and you can bet they aren't rocking patchouli and holding drum circles.

It seems like 9 times out of 10 these morons run around wearing t shirts screaming "I'm going to commit ________ atrocity" and nobody seems to take them seriously.

Neighbors said the husband and wife openly obsessed over conspiracy theories and wanting to murder police officers in the weeks before Sunday's attack.

'They were going to kill as many officers as they can and then do away with themselves,' neighbor Krista Koch told ABC. 'They said they didn't believe in the government, the cops, the feds - anything - and they just wanted to get rid of as many as they can.'

Koch added to KTNV that the man would often dress as the Joker - the Batman costume adopted by killer James Holmes before he opened fire on theater-goers in Colorado in 2012 - or Slender Man - the fictional online character cited as the motive in the grisly stabbing of a 12-year-old girl last week.

NBC reported that before the killing spree they had said their goodbyes to their neighbors.

'We gotta do what we gotta do,' the man told neighbor Kelly Fielder, adding that he and his wife were leaving for an 'underground world'. The wife then embraced the Fielder and said, 'I am so sorry', she said.

Fielder added she had heard the couple say they wanted to overthrow the government and President Obama and kill police officers, but had never thought that they were serious.

I always thought the left was much better at keeping quiet and letting the "other team" make fools out of themselves. Not so sure anymore.

Jessica Anderson, the suspects’ neighbor, told the Review-Journal that they admitted to being kicked off Cliven Bundy’s ranch during his standoff with the Bureau of Land Management.

“The man told (neighbor Brandon) Monroe he had been kicked off Cliven Bundy’s ranch 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas while people from throughout the U.S. gathered there in protest of a Bureau of Land Management roundup of Bundy’s cattle,” Anderson explained to the Review-Journal.

Tobias is making hilarious posts which make a great point. That's what good satire is all about, and he's being smart and witty. Datonn and Jackstraw, both of whom I really like, are wrong to try to make such a direct connection IMO.

Datonn, regarding your point about God: it's true that liberals don't use God as an authority in the way that religious conservatives do, but they do often use a claim of moral righteousness that can be every bit as absolutist as religion.

Yes. Clearly this could have all been solved by preeminently killing everyone at the Bundy ranch.

Every one of those people at the Bundy ranch who had a gun pointed anywhere near the direction of any law enforcement officer should have been immediately locked up, IMO.

Its amazing how quickly things change when the shoe is on the other foot. Apparently the treatment of Bush by the liberal media has largely been forgotten and/or rationalized away.

Good call. This double standard is unacceptable. You can definitely blame the "liberal media" for all the murders and other violent crimes committed by nutjob liberals whose anger was fomented by their rhetoric.

Question: Of the incidents such as this where people seem to target and kill individuals (or law enforcement) whom they do not know personally, how do they vote? Where do they tend to get their news? What type of religious affiliation (if any) do they have?

I can think of the number of incidents where people spouting communist/socialist political viewpoints (all democrats are communists/socialists at heart, right? - sigh) walked into a church/school/mall/restaurant/_________ and started shooting people on, well, not even one hand. AKA I cannot think of a single incident. I'm sure they exist! But I can think of dozens of incidents over the past decade where people spouting views more in-line with Right-wing politics and talking points. Why is that? Is it just that my own "blue-colored glasses" refuse to allow me to see the sins/warts of the Party I don't even call my own, since I am much more a survivor/refugee from the former Republican Party that used to have at least a few of us moderates in it?

Be an interesting bit of research or study to conduct. Though it'll have to be conducted by some group or groups on the Right...since if anyone in the middle or Left did the study and it showed that folks who commit these horrible crimes tend to lean Right vs. Left, it'll largely be ignored by the people who need to hear the results the most. A conspiracy of the "lame-stream media" who is trying to change the rules and somehow get Dear Leader elected for a third term... :wall:

Maybe jonessed will list those, so we can have a rare kumbayah moment where everyone is in agreement.

How many more innocents would have died if that civilian wasnt concealed carrying?
was he/she the civilian that was killed?
Yes, he is dead.

...

After the shooting, the couple headed toward a nearby Wal-Mart, where Jerad Miller was confronted by Joseph Robert Wilcox, 31, of Las Vegas. Wilcox was legally carrying a concealed pistol. Wilcox was unaware that Amanda Miller, who was pushing a shopping cart, was involved in the incident and “lying in wait,” the official said.

She slipped behind Wilcox and shot him at close range.

“He had no idea the wife was walking behind him,” the police official said of the murdered man. “This guy (Wilcox) was not some idiot with a gun. To me, he was a hero. He was trying to stop an active shooter.”

It wasn’t immediately clear if Wilcox fired a shot, or if he hit Jerad Miller before he died.

Jerad Miller’s Facebook ‘manifesto’

By FRANCIS McCABE
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

The following statement was posted to Jerad Miller’s Facebook page June 2.

“We can hope for peace. We must, however, prepare for war. We face an enemy that is not only well funded, but who believe they fight for freedom and justice. Those of us who know the truth and dare speak it, know that the enemy we face are indeed our brothers. Even though they share the same masters as we all do. They fail to recognize the chains that bind them. To stop this oppression, I fear, can only be accomplished with bloodshed. May the best men of our beloved nation stand and fight tyranny, without fear and without regret. May we stand proud as free men instead of kneeling as slaves. May we offer our children a free and just world with our blood, sweat and tears as payment. Let our wives and lovers take vengeance upon our enemies in our absence. We cannot fail in this endeavor of Liberty, if we do we risk leaving our orphaned children to the will of tyrants. We, cannot with good conscience leave this fight to our children, because the longer we wait, our enemies become better equipped and recruit more mercenaries of death, willing to do a tyrants bidding without question. I know you are fearful, as am I. We certainly stand before a great and powerful enemy. I, however would rather die fighting for freedom, than live on my knees as a slave. Let it be known to our children’s children that free men stood fast before a tyrants wrath and were found victorious because we stood together. That we all cast aside our petty differences and united under the banner of Liberty and Truth. May future generations look back upon this time in history with awe and gratitude, for our courage to face tyranny, so that they could live happy and free”

Its amazing how quickly things change when the shoe is on the other foot. Apparently the treatment of Bush by the liberal media has largely been forgotten and/or rationalized away.

Animal Liberation Front

Black Liberation Army

Earth Liberation Front

Symbionese Liberation Army

United Freedom Front

Weather Underground Organization

The Unabomber

All have committed acts of violence in the name of nominally left-wing causes in the United States. There are many other examples.

Reaction ranged from anger to shock to befuddlement after Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock compared the nation's direction to Hitler's Nazi Germany during a farewell speech at the Indiana Republican Convention on Saturday.

"The people of Germany in a free election selected the Nazi Party because they made great promises that appealed to them because they were desperate and destitute. And why is that? Because Germany was bankrupt," he said. [...]

"The truth is, 70 years later, we are drifting on the tides toward another beachhead and it is the bankruptcy of the United States of America."

One is a homicidal maniac and the other was a candidate for Senator who campaigned with Mitt Romney. You would hope there would be a larger gulf in rhetoric from the crazies and the people running the asylum.

Good call. This double standard is unacceptable. You can definitely blame the "liberal media" for all the murders and other violent crimes committed by nutjob liberals whose anger was fomented by their rhetoric.
+1Maybe jonessed will list those, so we can have a rare kumbayah moment where everyone is in agreement.
I'm not aware of any media organization murdering people. Are you? That would definitely be an interesting list. I can't think of any in the US.

Hyperbole and partisan reporting though. I definitely see a lot of that.
