PUNK Music Draft - Now Ongoing post awesome punk songs thread (1 Viewer)

It is nice.  I came for the fireworks though

Just being silly, people are still making good picks and that's what matters

Oh, yeah. People are still making great ones. I'm about to make what I think is a good one. Love it. Twenty-fifth round!

Last thing I have to offer up.. Not really a pick, or is it.. it's not on Spotify, unfortunately most of this record has never been, at least in the states.  Probably about four of my favorite minutes from the brit-raggae-punk era, then it totally wanders off but that was the magic of some of this stuff back then

Stiff Little Fingers - Johnny Was

Just realized I didn't take a female led group. I had Interrupters penciled in and then replaced them when there was too many left out and maybe they have enough representation here. Give me:

Tilt - Unravel

Love the punk soul in her voice.
This tune was also on that legendary (for me) Fat Music For Fat People comp I wrote about earlier on. Awesome choice, great song.

No, you're just a genius. How's that?  I mean that sincerely.
Jeez, Beethoven was a genius

I just found that Swing Kids track on a punk covers playlist.  It stood out from a bunch of crap Pop Goes Punk covers.  Joy Division isn't an easy band to cover although Warsaw is them at their most punk.

True, bud. But you've done a lot for punk and for this board. Small steps.

Dude. I was trying to remember who this band was. Never did own Fat Music For Fat People, but saw them quite a few times in the Bay Area opening for other bands. Don’t know much about them, but they put on a good show and her delivery is unique. This makes me happy

Just changed my pick. Had no idea it was on Spotify, because it wouldn't load. But that's the one I want.

Pretty punk rock.

This made for some great airplane listening, thank you gentlemen (there were no ladies I think?).  Lots of new-to-me stuff that I like here, as much as any draft we've had

When we started I thought it would be fun to dig for covers of punk songs by non-punk artists.  After a few rounds a few things were clear - I was going to end up with mostly mediocre carbon copies by metal acts, it would take more time than I have to do otherwise, everybody hated me already, and a lot of classic stuff was potentially being left on the table in the larger draft.  So I quit and came back and I'm glad I did!  But here is my covers cheatsheet that I started with, for anyone/no one's enjoyment

Pete Shelley.  Rest in punk.

Buzzcocks were arguably the most influential of the Class of 77.  There's a more direct line from them to 90s-2000s pop punk than there is for contemporaries like the Sex Pistols and the Clash.

Shelley and Steve Diggle continued to tour the band and always put on a good show.  Diggle is a rock n roll lifer who throws himself into every song while Shelley always seemed a bit bemused at center stage.  We always tried to catch them when they came through town; hard to believe there won't be another Buzzcocks show.

I think we need to merge this thread with the punk thread. And can be "Punk Thread (or whatever) w/ draft!" or whatever. Because now I don't know where to post.

When I get a chance I'll add a link in the OP of the punk thread to this draft.

I can edit the thread title if people want. I assume this thread has more posts than the punk one at this point?
But there's good stories in there. Stories that might not have been retold in here. I think jamming this in the middle as a merge would be beautiful. In my, imo.

I agree. That thread is a pretty interesting thread. Maybe we can get the mods to merge.

Wife’s company holiday party was tonight. Stopped for a beer or two on way back and Waiting Room came on. My dumb,  48 year old ###, in slacks and a sport coat bouncing to it looking the fool.

So I’ve been inspired...

Ever Fallen In Love - buzzcocks

She Has A Toungue Like A Bettering Ram - The Faction

Instituionalized - Suicidal Tendencies

Bro Hymm - Pennywise

Another Girl Anothe Planet - Only Ones

Also, like Epic, listening. Just heard Richard Hell followed by Saves The Day. Making my late night. This was a good idea.

Going through the playlist now and loving it. The Adverts. What genius picked that? Love the Adolescents, too. Had always heard of them, but never listened.

I put this on to close the bar and kick everyone out last night.

Now I'm at my Skins bar. We have a dj to play all DC music during commercials. Mostly Go-Go music, but the lead in to the game right.... ####### Waiting Room!
