QB Anthony Richardson, IND (1 Viewer)

Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter said the team does not plan to scale back QB Anthony Richardson’s rushing usage despite his Week 2 concussion.

Even after a Week 2 concussion, rushing will still be a part of Colts rookie Anthony Richardson’s toolset. “This league comes at you fast”, said Indianapolis’ offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. Cooter explained that QB runs and scrambling will always be a part of Richardson’s game, but he needs to find way to limit risk on rushes. The big QB from Florida is the Colts’ franchise piece and his key rushing ability will stay a large part of his production.
That sure sounds like Richardson cannot make it as a QB if he can't run or is forced to use his arm more

"AIn't I a stinker?!"
-Bugs
That is what you take from that? I have been impressed with his passing ability and think that will continue to progress. However, why would a coach say anything other than that even if he decides to scale it back? The guy is a threat running the ball and you want to make sure defenses are aware of that.

Opposing Defensive Coordinator: "I wonder if Richardson has any running ability."

Jim Bob Cooter: "QB runs and scrambling will always be a part of Richardson's game."

Opposing Defensive Coordinator: "Whew. Thanks Jim Bob. I almost ignored Richardson as a runner. Close call."

I've tried to trade ARich without any success. Starting to think about trading Hurts for better name value and running with ARich as my primary QB. Definitely wait a couple of weeks to see if he can complete at least one week healthy.

Anthony Richardson (concussion) will not play in Week 3 against the Ravens.

Richardson was trending toward missing after being sidelined in practice all week. The Colts start rookie exited in the first quarter of Week 2 with a concussion, and has been in the league’s concussion protocol ever since. Veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew, who joined the Colts after playing in Philadelphia under Shane Steichen, will get the road start against a stout Ravens defense.

Anthony Richardson will practice Wednesday.

Richardson, who sustained a brain injury in Week 2 against the Texans, remains in the league’s concussion protocol. Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Richardson would take starter’s snaps in practice. His return to practice is a good sign he’ll be available for the Colts’ Week 4 game against the Rams. Barring a setback, Richardson should slide back into fantasy lineups. Gardner Minshew would draw another spot start if Richardson is held out against LA.

I really hope he's not injured frequently. His potential is off the charts and it'll suck if all we ever get are just glimpses of it

Fan since I did my annual college prospects research. Love this dude's game, except for one fatal flaw I noticed in his college tape and NFL preseason. He does not actively avoid collisions. I think he thinks that b/c he is so big that he can overpower everyone when he turns RB. He can't. Not in the SEC and definitely not in the NFL. Either he'll get past this particular hubris or it will ruin him. Again, I am a huge fan of his game - he is a unicorn. But ARich needs to recognize which battles are worth it and which aren't.

i got a handful of leagues where i punted qb for a bit and took richardson and backed him up with tua or purdy. he won't go in over tua but even with in the purdy ones i think i have to wait a week if arich is cleared. i honestly think my best hope with arich is to sell high when i can cause my backup plans panned out

Hopefully he learned a lesson with this injury. He seemed to slow down a bit and let his guard down. Cant do that in this league. If he stays healthy he should be a beast!

Anthony Richardson (concussion) practiced on Thursday.
Richardson was back on the field Thursday after logging a full practice on Wednesday, and just needs to be cleared by an independent neurologist to have a chance to play in Week 4 against the Rams. Richardson getting cleared in time for Sunday’s matchup against the Rams feels like a foregone conclusion, but we’ll know the official word soon. If he’s active, Richardson will be a fringe QB1 against a Rams defense that has allowed a mere 12.6 fantasy points per game to opposing QBs through three weeks.

I'm glad you saw that...seemed to me he let off the gas as he was crossing the plane and got wacked. 🤞He learns his lesson.

And so we gather...
-MoP big critic but about to rip the roof off here
-Many will ask why now? MoP Jr, already has a frontline QB but he says "Pops, why keep Player X as a back up, this dude just got released and if he hits..."

...wait for it....wait for it, like yeah if you have the kind of team MoP Jr terms as "Candy" for the back up QB then pull the bleeping trigger
Anyone who thinks I'm sleeping or holding on to summer thinking obviously did not read/participate in the JAX-INDY thread week 1

-Please do not shut down discussion from both sides, open minds are like parachutes, typically only work when they are OPEN and it's a 2-Way Street
@Faust obviously not directed at you, thanks for the updates and INFO

Cheers!

I have no idea, but I think....I think.....he's saying hold on to your back-ups because Richardson will get hurt again. I think, but I have no clue.

If so, he's not wrong, if that's how you roll. Richardson looks absolutely fantastic, but the way he takes hits, you have to assume some injuries are coming.

But I think it's league and personal preference dependent. I don't trust Richardson to make it through any week, but I despise burning roster spots on back-up QB's.

In a 12-team one-QB non-superflex, whatever, the WW is the bench for QB's. It doesn't matter too much If you get the runt of the Baker/Stafford litter.

I was referencing this Billy Madison quote. "Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

I am a dude who thinks AR’s ceiling is ridiculously high. But two things have to happen.

1. Improve his accuracy.
2. Stay healthy

The early issue that lingers is #2. I have little doubt he can improve on #1 long term.

But #2 has proven to be a pot hole for him throughout his high school/college and now pro career.

But he is a freakish athlete at the QB position with a big time work ethic.

Simply stopped in to see what condition A-Rich's condition was in. Nice that he will suit up. Too bad I started Jordan Love this week because he's my backup. Ooof.

Poor timing. I've had A-Rich for four weeks now, and only started him once. He left that game with a concussion. Ay de mi.

MoP makes a good -- if indecipherable until pollardsvision translated -- point that you'll need to carry a backup if you want to roster A-Rich as your number one guy. Rostering backups takes up a precious roster spot depending on how deep your league is.

Good point.

Love looked like a bad start this week but he did end up with 19 so not the worst. In my dynasty league I had the same decision and rolled the dice on AR getting cleared instead of starting love Thursday.

My backup to ARich is Herbert. Has worked well so far.

My backup to ARich is Herbert. Has worked well so far.

Herbert didn't fall that far, did he? Or you didn't reach for ARich like that, did you?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that you didn't take ARich before Herbert, right?

If so -- and assuming you took ARich when he was reasonably expected to go -- that would be very fortuitous for you.

Was strongly considering rolling with him over L. Jackson. Crazy but Cleveland's defense has been pretty good.
It's not unreasonable but ATM Lamar is one of the few guys you probably have to start. But Richardson has made that choice difficult.

I would just like to see him finish a game where he is the starting Quarterback

-2 week concussion protocol where he had to signal to the team that something was not right
I continue to find this story disturbing
I wonder how many players do not signal and go unchecked or undiagnosed

I guess playing him over fields. First game after a concussion is worrisome though.
Denver has allowed 105 points in their last 2 games vs a challenged Washington offense that just got ripped 37-3 last weekend
Denver allowed 35 to Sam Howell
If you didn't catch the game or didn't hear, Miami pasted on 70 last weekend.
Denver is now on the road again this week

You are going to bench Fields vs that soft serve ice cream, you might as well just cut him

I took Herbert in the 5th and ARich in the 12th of a 12 team league. Herbert was the 7th QB off the board. I'd say as of now, I nailed the QBs in my draft.

Yea I don’t want to turn this into a fields thing - you are right, but he really sucks.

I understand the allure of ARich
I just wanted to spell out what you are deciding,
I doubt you are the only person with this choice today

Rams Defense
Geno Smith Week 1 was held in check
Brock Purdy Week 2, Niners did put up 30, CMC was a decent size chunk of the offense
Joe Burrow-They did hold Cinci down but couldn't pull out the win, lose 19-16 IIRC
ARich would be next, Rookie QB, has not been able to finish a game yet and coming off concussion protocol
But he's likely better than whatever is on your waiver wire

It's FF and it's supposed to be fun, my son reminds me of this often.
Roll the dice on ARich, he had an extra week off, more time to prepare and review his first couple weeks in the NFL

First 2 games were division games. Rams know both those teams very well. Bengals game was close but Burrow was not operating at 100%. The upside here is 2019 Lamar Jackson against the Rams. This defense is not good.

Injuries are definitely a concern but I'm not buying the Rams as some kind of prohibitive team defensively.

If Quentin Nelson is out that could be a problem however.

Thanks for the insight. I was a little surprised how low fbg has fields in this matchup but it’s deserved I suppose.

If Richardson had actually finished a game this season, I would probably choose him but since he hasn't, it's Lamar.

To be fair Lamar was the right choice but Richardson still had a pretty monster game as well.

He makes it tough. I benched him for Cousins & Hurts, it was the right call but didn't work out. This kid is dynamic AF.
