QB Anthony Richardson, IND (5 Viewers)

Dropped Darnold for him. Last week was the first time I started Darnold against the leagues worst pass defense and he lost me the week.

I did the exact same thing. I have since cut Darnold, after he made the useless Jags look like the 85 Bears, to pick up Herbert. I am not going back to the ARich well. I just don't see what would have changed in the 2-3 weeks since he last played (badly) to trust him again. I guess pick him up and see what happens is an ok strategy but I couldn't trust him out of the gate.

I would take Herbert over AR and should have made that move earlier when Herbert was on waivers. Not expecting AR to do much but after the sting of Darnold I needed to roll the dice.

He’s the ideal type of stash this time of year. Has a chance to prove himself and team needs him for playoff hunt. His schedule after game 1 has been against good defenses too, this week could be a good bounce back spot.

Yep. He has a 100 yard rushing game and he is the top waiver claim. Which he is very very possible.

30+ in my SF league. Was at work, so I couldn’t see if he looked good doing it.
He had a handful of his typical off-the-mark throws early on, especially one really bad one on a 3rd down check down screen, but his accuracy picked up as the game went along. The game winning drive was a thing of beauty. Also more designed runs, which helped open things up a bit for him.

No doubt he’ll still have some clunkers, but that game had to give a world of confidence to him.

Per @NextGenStats:

Anthony Richardson completed 9/12 attempts of 10+ air yards for a career-high 185 yards, including 2/2 for 56 yards on downfield passes on the #Colts’ game-winning drive.

AR's completion percentage of 75.0% on downfield pass attempts is tied for the 5th-highest in any game this season (min. 10 attempts).

Lamar won mvp last year on like 250 passing and 60 rushing on avg. you would think they could AR to 225/80.

And people would love him again

The biggest difference for me since Anthony Richardson's return from the benching is how Shane Steichen's using him. It's like the governor's suddenly off.

Playcalls have been more aggressive — way more designed runs — and you can see the impact.

I wonder if he can't get more accurate at those mid-depth throws with more experience. Honestly, it's kinda weird to see the deep accuracy being decent and mid-depth being so terrible, I can't think of another QB that was like that.

Hopefully that will be the next step in his development in the offseason. We obviously have no insight into last offseason, but have to imagine a lot of time was spent rehabbing his shoulder and learning how to avoid big hits. The mid-depth accuracy didn't see to be as much of an issue last year, although there obviously wasn't much of a sample size to go off of.

He still has the physical tools IMO.

He also still isn't where he needs to be to be a career long successful QB.

If he gets there, we'll see. Still a coin flip for me. But I bought him low in dynasty a couple weeks back because I think he's got a decent shot.

As JohnnyU just said, progress is there. If he can keep progressing, his ceiling can be sky high. It's all going to come down to where he stops progressing and levels off. That accuracy issue is a real drive killer sometimes and he needs to fix it. He needs to read the field better too (I think the gains here are pretty noticeable from early season to the past couple of games, but still plenty of room to keep growing there too).

Interesting stats that provide a bit of context to AR's poor passing numbers, and just looking at his stats doesn't necessarily tell the full story. Seems like poor play by his OL and his receivers are meaningful factors at play.

But but but no one want to hear that. It’s easier to ignore what’s going on around him.

To provide a frame of reference for how unique Anthony Richardson is:

In Week 13, A Rich had a:
+ 54% highly accurate throw rate
+ 75% catchable ball rate
+ 16-yard aDOT

Over the past four seasons, there's only been one other player to hit all three marks in a game. Lamar Jackson did it in 2021.

This dude smells. He looked completely lost out there today.

If I were a Colts fan, I think the panic that kicks in after 2 seconds would worry me most.

Also, can't figure out why he doesn't take off more often. He runs up into the pocket, then stops, then gets swallowed up.

He and Kyler are probably going to lead me to an early playoff exit. I thought I was super clever grabbing two running QB’s in a 4 point passing td SF, but looks like the jokes on me.

I’m not sure how long he’s going to be starting. His accuracy is atrocious.

He was only worth the real life draft capital if the range of outcomes was greatest of all time potential. Today’s NFL doesn’t allow for QBs to take 3 years to develop. Perhaps that’s the for profit business for you.

Anthony Richardson may be awesome in another lifetime where we is afforded the experience and time to develop but this team will give up on him and he will probably not be what he could’ve been.

He was pretty meh in college. If you watched him at Florida you had to ask yourself…..is he a top 5 overall pick?

God no.

The reach for the next Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson will cause scouts and GM’s to make picks like this.

I do agree QB’s are not afforded the time to develop. And part of that is the crazy money these kids are now getting.

It’s a fail/fail model now.

I thought the Colts had all the momentum until Jonathan Taylor did his bonehead move of dropping the ball before crossing the goal line on that long run. After that, the whole offense imploded. The defense played very well I thought. If they had kept that momentum, maybe Richardson would have rode it as well. No one knows now.

He's big, he can run fast, and he can throw far... that's the good news. Actually those are the only positives I can see. I don't see any signs that he can play QB at the NFL level. His own coaches tried to hide him for 3 quarters while clinging to a FG lead. Just my untrained eye, but it looks like he has no feel for the game, no grasp of the offense, and zero pocket awareness. Other than that the future is bright.
