QB Anthony Richardson, IND (2 Viewers)

Colts head coach Shane Steichen named Anthony Richardson as the team’s Week 1 starter.

That was quick. Richardson had an uneven preseason performance against the Bills last week, completing seven of 12 passes for 67 yards and an ugly interception. He rushed twice for seven yards. Apparently Steichen and the Colts are ready to commit to the rookie, who profiles as a great later-round fantasy pick for drafters who don’t get an elite quarterback option. Richardson’s rushing prowess and downfield throwing ability could make him something of a fantasy cheat code in 2023.

We all saw this coming...but LET'S GO.

Where is everyone seeing him drafted in 12 man redraft leagues? I'm really liking the idea of going AR with a floor QB later.

Higher than people believe IMO. I wouldn't be shocked to see him drafted as a QB1.

Someone will believe that 1,100 yards rushing is more realistic than it really is and go after him early.

One worry is that if he struggles early, and he will, a loss of confidence could park him on the bench. You can't gain rushing yards carrying a clipboard. I hope they let him work through his struggles, but if he loses it mentally they would have no other option than to let him clear his head from the bench.

I hope like hell he doesn't lose his confidence because he will struggle. He has the right coach for his style of play for sure.

Agreed. If that was a real concern, he wouldn't already have won the job. Sounds like he's looked good in practice and Minshew hasn't. I think they let the kid play through his struggles.

What rookie QB doesn't struggle?
True, but not all handle it well. I'm hoping AR does.

Yeah if he’s like Zach Wilson bad then he will get benched and his career will essentially be over. But if he’s just normal rookie bad, then he will learn through it. At least that’s my POV.

I hope he doesn't have Marc Wilson eyes. A defensive player once said he looked scared all the time. One thing you never know about a player coming into the league is what's between the ears. Everything I've read about Richardson is that he works hard, learns easily, and isn't short on confidence. So I fully expect him to progress positively with each year.

If anything it will be the db who has fear in his eyes as AR and his 250 runs him over.

Anyone drafted recently that can shed some light on number of teams and where AR was drafted?
He went round 9 in a 12-team draft a week ago. Seems about right to me. The team that took him, paired him with Aaron Rodgers 3 rounds later.
Posts like this need to come with a trigger warning for us super-flex guys.
True - no way in any kind of decent SF league will you get Richardson close to that point.

Gonna pull the trigger on him at 1.03 in my dynasty league. Swinging for the fences. Generational QB potential here despite his very shaky accuracy in college.

I know a guy in Buffalo who looked exactly the same. In year 3 he blew up.

That's the way I'm approaching it in my upcoming keeper SF draft. Guys like Cousins and Rodgers are nice 2nd QB options, but I'm shooting for 1st place, not 5th.

In 12 team SF/2QB, better be ready to grab ARich rd 4 at latest. He will be going in Rd 3 in leagues that have multiple owners who share your thought here.

I drafted AR at 9.10 of a twelve-round draft after Cousins was drafted and paired him with Geno at pick 11.10. It's going to take a waste of a late-round pick to pair him, but it's probably worth it to do so just in case AR is like every other rookie quarterback, which means he's going to be suspect at times.

I would do the same. Honestly, if I am taking a QB outside of the top 6-7 guys, I probably won't be waiting too long to get a backup. I know the experts advise against this but in most of redraft leagues, teams are rostering 2 and sometimes 3 QBs so the WW isn't usually flush with options. Plus I like the idea of being able to play matchups.

I am going with this same exact strategy if I don’t get Herbert or Lawrence. I don’t think I want to go for the big 3 at the 2/3 turn and like how teams look with the AR + Geno setup usually.

I am going with this same exact strategy if I don’t get Herbert or Lawrence.

These two went pretty early in my draft and Cousins went before my pick in the ninth so my mind was pretty much made up to go with AR and let Geno fall because our drafters already all had 1QB in a 1QB league, so Geno did fall to me at 11.10. I thought about going Geno at 9.10 and Richardson at 11.10, but AR wasn't making it that far because a lot of people are taking him as a 2nd QB/wildcard, so I figured I'd back door the duo.

Love that. I will monitor who’s got QBs and go from there in my own draft. Hopefully pull something similar off to yours. Best of luck

He went 1.12 and 2.01 in the two FFPC Tri Flex startups I did. That’s a little too pricey for me, but it’s not crazy.

i took him as my 3rd QB behind D.Watson and D.Carr, hoping to use him as a keeper next season
What do you see in Carr to make him your upside #2 over Richardson? Both of your guys were still on the board when I took him.
unproven
Fair enough but Carr is what he has always been.
Football players need to prove themselves all the time , Carr has put up some very nice numbers during his career , if Richardson performs the way hes expected he will be my keeper next season

Has he? Taking off my Raiders blinders for a minute. Three, 4,000 yard seasons, 30+ TD passes once and that was eight seasons ago. Brings zero on the ground.

He's been okay for fantasy purposes. Maybe slightly above replacement level and mostly durable. That's about it.

I like the potential in New Orleans if Thomas ever gets right but I'm still expecting maybe 3,900 yards & 25 TDs without much upside.

well i have Olave so i took the combo , and again Carr is my back up, D.Watson is my main guy. If Richardson plays like i expect he will be used without hesitation and kept on my roster next season

Gambled and just took Richardson at 9.2 as my first QB. I almost took Cousins but wanted Richardson and figured he wouldn't get back to me. Hoping to following your approach and back up with Geno or someone similar.

No reason he can't do his best Justin Fields impression. Getting Cam Newton vibes.

A linebacker playing Quarterback.
Reason number 1 would be Cam Newton won the Heisman and was the clear best player in the country coming out. I know a player can't single handily win a National Title but Cam came about as close as one can. Richardson physically might be on Cam's level but he was never at any point half the player Cam was in college.

Oh man. Never, ever do what I do. :) Disaster looming in ten. . .nine. . .eight. . .

Never mind that. You're on the A train.

Good luck, skol!
Ended up getting Cousins with my next pick. Very happy with that.
Just hope cousins isn’t in prime time when ARich is on the BYE.
Just looked. Sunday Night Football it is. 😆
