Yes because they colts are showing their game plan in preseason. Arich is going to run a lot more in regular season.

He had a shaky first series and then settled in. His WRs had some drops and didn't make plays. That didn't help. It's going to be a bumpy passing season. Are you expecting something different?
ARs rushing will give him a solid floor, given what we've seen from guys Fields and the like. He will be fantasy gold and a fantasy jackpot if his passing develops.

i've taken him and tua as a combo on a few teams. also as a starter on a 16 teamer. i have been elated since he was named starter. hopefully i enjoy this ride

Having eyes gives me some excellent perspective here. He looked comfortable. The game didn’t look too big for him.
He looked too big for most of the defenders.
He made quick reads & good decisions of when to take off, and turned them into big gains.
Sometimes passing the eye test means more than the stat sheet.
And while this was against 2nd & 3rd stringers, they’re out there playing for a job. There was talent on that field. Maybe not starting talent, but Colts ran a pretty vanilla playbook, and there were a few drops by receivers.
Maybe watch the game instead of the stat sheet. Observation is key to evaluation.

It's certainly looking like it's going to be a bumpy ride for Richardson owners this year. Love him in dynasty, as I think Steichen & Co. will develop him over time. In redraft though, while the rushing numbers will be a nice floor, you just have to pray that he can sustain drives with his arm - can't run all the time when the games really matter, unless he pulls a Fields (which is not easy to bank on).

I’m sure the Colts expected no rookie pains when they drafted Richardson at #4. You know, the opposite of how I’m sure the Jags staff felt when they drafted the most polished quarterback prospect in the last decade. And he validated those feelings, by coming in and smoking the league his first year.

He is going to be a low completion % guy- we know that. If he succeeds, it will be with big plays through the air and a consistent rushing attack. Maybe his sneaky best trait in college was how little he was sacked. His ability to turn pressure into positive yards will be crucial his success.

QBR for his career is 93
He's thrown 44 TDs in his career vs 15 Int and his completion rate is 62.8% although his last extended work, just 57.9% but still better than 6 for 17.
Minshew is far more ready for Week 1 than ARich, that's gotta bug some of the professionals in that locker room. We'll see how it all shakes out.
Maybe ARich will take the league by storm, with his awesome rushing skills.
This is probably why Taylor is expendable, they won't even need a RB to shoulder the load with this new bell cow under Center.

In Redraft leagues, that's where I drew the line, you're hinting at Dynasty or what he's going to do in '24 and I could care less right now.
People have hyped him to Top 10 status in redraft, can you understand perhaps why I have this POV?
I don't know what ARich will be in '24 and '25, we're not there yet.
IMHO, he's not that ready for Week 1.
I think he should be carrying a clipboard for at least a month, Minshew would be fine to start the season until he's ready.

I thought there were positives with AR last night. His pocket instincts are very good and he will be hard to contain from running successfully. I think he throws too hard on shorter throws. He needs to take some off the pass for the sake of better accuracy. I hope coaching will help with this.

Was listening to some podcast recently that talked about how Richardson really didn’t run the ball that much in college, that he prefers to stay in the pocket. Wonder how that will look in the NFL.

Well, last night he showed very good ability of avoiding the sack and make positive yards with his legs. That's going to be part of his game in the NFL, just as it is with Hurts. He's going to have to improve his accuracy on his short range passes and like I said earlier, that could come with coaching. One can hope. He throws it too hard and I believe that is where it starts. If he can learn better touch he can take that next step forward.
That's certainly possible, but it's also possible that doesn't happen. That doesn't make last night's performance better.
Yes, there was some good and some bad from last night. His receivers dropped a few balls (although lack of touch was a factor), but they also caught a couple of bad throws, like the one that injured Pittman (momentarily). It was a mixed bag, which isn't surprising at all- calling him "a FF star right out of the gate" and "fantasy gold" based on that is a bit surprising, although I guess it shouldn't be based on how biased FF players can be.
I agree with your final paragraph. That's not what the comments prior to mine said.

It's a fair criticism. Not just 4 yards out but everywhere. One thing that was clear from his college tape, and last night, is in the heat of a play he doesn't seem to be able to take anything off his fastball. I'm sure his touch passing looks great in practice, but it needs to translate to when the pocket is collapsing on game day.
He threw a lot of ropes on passes that should have had air under them. I thought he looked fine last night but the ability to learn touch passing was my biggest for him before the draft and still is today.
There is a reason his receivers seem to drop a lot of passes that hit them in the hands (or close to them).

I watched the game. I saw some good and some bad, which is to be expected and should be expected going forward. It's simply a fact that it was almost exclusively against guys who will be looking for work in a few days and the level of competition is going to be far greater than what he saw last night, and his FF production last night was far from "a FF star right out of the gate".
I'm fairly high on Richardson, especially from a FF standpoint. That doesn't mean I have to pretend that he was fantastic last night just because he's on my magic football team.

If you’re saying you did & your take away was “meh, here are the stats” then I’ll simply not trust you as an observer/reporter, because it was hard to watch that and not come away impressed.

He got bailed out on a couple of bad throws that drew a flag.
He had a few good throws last night, but overall, he didn't look good throwing the ball to me. He obviously is going to be very good at running the ball.

I get your overall point and even this part, but Richardson started the game so I think it was more like playing against NFL depth guys and not starting level players - rather than playing against waiver wire guys. I could be wrong and maybe they only played roster cut guys last night though - I watched but don’t know the Eagles depth guys enough to know how far down the depth chart they actually were.

You guys posted how great he's going to be for FF. Last I checked, FF is all about stats, so it's perfectly logical to cite stats in response.
Now that you're moving the goalposts, no, I didn't come away very "impressed" by his performance either. Not when I watched live, and not when I re-watched the link. Like I said, some good, but plenty of bad as well. Couldn't care less if you "trust" my opinion, I call it like I see it objectively instead of basing it on who is and isn't on my FF team.

just to put in perspective. Colts had their 1st team in for pretty much the whole 1st half. Eagles had 2nd teamers start the game and even the 3rd and 4th string after a few drives. So sure he looked like he did some good, but I doubt the OL will look that good against most 1st string DLs

Let's not forget the Colts OL was considered one of the top offensive lines in the league not too long ago. The retirement of Anthony Castonzo hurt. I look for a bounce back year, especially with a mobile QB. Their issue was pass protecting for statue type QBs back there with Wentz, Ryan, and to some degree Rivers, even though he led them to the playoffs.

Absolutely, and judging by what I saw last night he could be devastating in the play action & RPO game.
Personally I am monitoring the RB situation in Indy more closely now because, whoever emerges (if anyone emerges) should see some great opportunities with Richardson under center.
I am far from an expert on the Eagles roster, but I'm fairly certain that most of those guys on defense won't be on the team in a few days. For instance, the guy who led the team in tackles by a huge margin, the one who Richardson nicely spun away from to avoid a sack, is an UDFA rookie converted FB who is listed as 4th WLB on the depth chart and isn't on any list of roster predictions that I've seen. Only a few of the guys who played at all are projected to make the roster, generally as back ups to the back up. Most won't even be depth pieces.
But yeah, the point is this no where near the level of talent he'll be facing in the regular season.

IMO, this will be his bread and butter and he has arguably the best coach in the league for it.

And yet it was still a higher concentration of talent on D than he was facing in college on any given game day.
I don’t disagree that he faced inferior talent compared to regular season games, but I also try not to be too dismissive of 3rd stringers on NFL rosters because of that.

Irrelevant, all that matters for fantasy is how he does in the NFL, and this wasn't a good test because it wasn't an NFL caliber defense.
These were mostly practice squad or out of the league guys, not 3rd stringers.

Very little about preseason games reflects what is going to happen after Labor Day. Teams don't scheme opponents, they test concepts that they are considering for when the games are real, there is a mix of scrubs and starters all over the place, everyone is knocking the rust off. Everything that happens needs to be viewed with that disclaimer in mind.
The bottom line is all you can do is play the people in front of you. Richardson did okay in some areas but clearly needs a lot of work in others.
One big thing I noticed relative to not facing first team defenses is I think there were a couple of throws that were in a bit of no-mans territory that very well could translate to turnovers against better defenses.
