An 18+ million dollar rental.
By QB standards, that isn't really all that much. Teddy Bridgewater made more than that, and guys like Goff, Wentz, and Garoppolo cost 15, 14, and 10 million more respectively. Mayfield is probably better or at least has more potential than any of those guys.
3 strong seasons followed by one very bad season
definitely worth a third rounder…maybe more
I wouldn't call Mayfield's 2nd season strong, but it was acceptable under the circumstances. Last year deserves a pass. I just find it weird how last year somehow seems to carry more weight than 2020.
Even beyond Mayfield being hurt, the Browns were all kinds of banged up. Chubb/Hunt both missed time. They were on their 5th string OT at one point. They just were a mediocre team, and even if they'd had Watson a year ago, they weren't going anywhere.
If Baker cant fetch ANY pick, then none of the QBs should go in the 1st round this year.
I am happily trading a 5th or whatever for Baker and using my 1st elsewhere
I'd agree with this. I don't hate this class as much as some do, and I think Willis and Howell have enough upside, that they should be 1st rounders, that said, I'd rather have Mayfield.
100% I'd rather deal a day 3 pick for Mayfield than draft a guy. I also think its silly to "tank" for the 2023 class. No guarantees that class is better. What if Bryce Young suffers a major injury, or CJ Stroud regresses a ton without Wilson/Olave? Or any other number of things that could happen.
I mean, this time a year ago, most people were expecting the 2022 draft class to be headlined by Spencer Rattler, and Aidan Hutchinson was a borderline 1st round prospect.
