QB Baker Mayfield, TB (15 Viewers)

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Baker Mayfield would start on Thursday night against the Raiders if John Wolford (neck) is unable to play.

It's sounding more and more like the Rams could actually roll with Mayfield on Thursday after the team claimed him off waivers late Tuesday afternoon. Despite being with the team for less than 48 hours, Mayfield appears to have already jumped Bryce Perkins on the depth chart and will enter the day as the QB2 if he's not named the starter. Quarterback John Wolford is dealing with a neck injury and enters Thursday night's game with a questionable tag. He's expected to go through pregame warmups and see how he feels before the Rams make a decision on whether or not to start him against the Raiders. Fantasy managers should look to avoid this situation regardless of Mayfield's status tonight.

Baker Mayfield is officially the QB on the reigning World Champions of the National Football League
That would never happen while he was in Cleveland or Carolina
Give the guy credit for working his way to a 1st class organization
Sky's the limit in Los Angeles where they play for Rings

Are the Los Angeles Rams the reigning World Champions or not?
They likely won't be repeat Champs but they are still the Champs until February
I don't make the rules up

How irrelevant is the guy that he hits the field in days on a Primetime game and his thread is on page two.

Deshuan Watson hasn't played in over 700 days, looked terrible but is 1-0 but the big difference between Deshuan and Baker is they will both revert back to the mean of how we've seen them play.
In the history of the NFL has a starting QB successfully demanded a trade then successfully demanded to be released and then got a shot to start a game with his third team all within a 5 month period?
He took a $7 million dollar pay cut to force his trade and he won't make that back.
I hope he does well because he can do amazing things when he's motivated but the Rams are not positioned for success.
Lack of draft picks equates to no cheap rookie contracts, so they are over the cap to the point they had to dump Von Miller. That hurt but they suffered injuries and how have to rebuild the offensive line. Aaron Donald has openly talked about retirement; they can't keep him under his current contract. Jalen Ramsey is unaffordable and is gone after this year. Stafford's massive contract is a problem at least for another year. Some following the team think newly married Sean McVay may decide to leave while on top to raise a family instead of dealing with all the problems.
It is good to see Baker having success, but we've seen this before and... we've seen.
We'll see how it turns out.

Love this for Baker. He's not disciplined enough to get a team over the hump, but he's a whole lot better than he's been given credit for over the last year plus.

That look he had on his face when greeting players coming off the field in a last second win can't be had by picking out carpeting and shopping at Costco.

In essence your POV is that you have to actually pull the rug back and perhaps go below the floorboards down into the cellar to find him?
It's not a question, i wouldn't insult you like that
Understood BS, you have a terrific full color poster to back up your POV
I only have 3:00 of game footage late last night
I'm gonna have to gather a lot more film i can see.

Thank you for the banter

There's a few things he accomplished.
He reinforced that he is a well known good guy, a rah rah type, that somehow gets everyone on the team together.
(That does not mean he didn't eventually frustrate the Browns and unfairly get a ton of flack for playing thru injury but it reverts to his college and rookie self. It may wear thin but when it's fresh- he's a fun dude to have around)
He still has a pretty special arm- not Jeff George but he can make a lot of throws and understands placement which is better than some for sure.
He has a very high football IQ- the post game interviews, the Rams on SirriusXM discussing how he picked up this n that before the game and studying play cards during the game. OMG is that fast and impressive.

The curse of the top QB is full on him. List the great linemen and WRs Bradford played with? How about Davis Carr or Tim Couch or.... So here's Baker going from arguably the worst designed offense in NFL history to the Rams with no run game and WRs that make everyone google during the game. He's gonna have a bad game soon and take all the blame and really get piled on. How can he not with the remaining Rams offense? Is Brady or Peyton winning there....but he'll get piled on.

Anywho....the guy might be Mariano Rivera or Frank Reich or Jeff Rutledge or....that might be his shtick-His firey leadership and cockiness comes in for an injured QB and gets the W.

Thrown in and leading the Panthers to a nice comeback win, same with the Rams.

Maybe that's his future role?
Most backup QBs are so meh there's no hope when they come in. He can lead a team to a W or a spirited comeback try and then his personality isn't starting long enough to wear thin on people.

Have you seen my Titans backup QBs? One didn't even play well in that AFL spring league or preseason. The other averages like 65 yards passing per game. I'd love to have him on TEN.
There's a pretty good number of teams that could use a decent backup.

Stafford is getting old, has been banged up many times over the years, was having a terrible season before the injuries. Now with his wife complaining about the head injuries she might want him to retire. Dude has made a ton of money and with the Rams in cap hell and heading towards a rebuild it might be the time.

Rams could sign Baker to a lowball deal as nobody else wants him and start over.

I agree with everything except trying to low-ball Baker.
He took a HUGE pay cut to enable the Browns to trade him to Carolina.
If Stafford decides to retire, doubtful since next year is guaranteed. His contract is an issue, so is Jalen Ramsey's contract, and Arron Donald, add Kupp to the mix. The Rams are seriously over the cap, but I wouldn't look to Baker's contract IF he plays well enough to name him the starter next year. He 'should' get paid.
More than likely Ramsey will not get extended, and he'll become a FA.
Donald will have to restructure his contract so the Rams can trade him and save a huge cap hit.
Stafford's contract is guaranteed next year, I don't see a way around it.
Kupp will get extended.
They will have to make other tough decisions IF Baker plays well enough to earn a second contract, but he got burned this year by taking that pay cut. I don't see him taking a low-ball offer.

Baker Mayfield completed 12-of-21 passes for 111 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the Rams' 24-12, Week 14 loss to the Packers.

Mayfield made some strong throws, but his decision-making issues continued to pop up in this game. The worst of them was a risky throw while under pressure that Packers linebacker Quay Walker nearly turned into a pick-six. Walker couldn't corral the pass but had nothing but green grass ahead of him. Mayfield also took five sacks, some of which could have been avoided by throwing the ball away. He did manage his second touchdown as a Ram. This one was an end zone strike to Tyler Higbee. After two weak fantasy outings in LA, Baker will rank as a QB3 in a difficult matchup with the Broncos next week.

Saw a meme today about Baker Mayfield helping 3 teams miss the playoffs in one season…Panther, Rams and Lions. Lol.

In addition he contributed to the departure of 2 coaches, Rhule and McVay (likely). Baker is truly special!

Bruce Arians has been a fan of Baker Mayfield... wonder if his influence in the front office may send him to Tampa this offseason.

Vaughn Sprinkle@Coach_Sprinx
I thought he should have went there anyway learn behind Tom Brady for a year then step in when he retired.

Think he’s a better fit for a wide zone offense from the Shanny Sr. tree. SF, MIN, MIA, etc.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports the Saints have interest in free agent QB Baker Mayfield.

The Saints were high on Mayfield ahead of the 2018 draft and may have to settle on him if they miss out on Derek Carr. Re-signing with the Rams remains in play for Mayfield and he's been linked as a fallback option for the Ravens, who hired Mayfield's ex-OC Todd Monken. Teams are viewing Mayfield as a higher upside bridge than free agent Jimmy Garoppolo after a late season surge with the Rams. Mayfield's 2023 landing spot will be tied to what happens with Carr and Lamar Jackson this offseason.

Its interesting that it seems like Mayfield's market is bigger going into 2023 than 2022, considering how awful he was in Carolina. I know its FA vs trade, but its still a bit surprising.

You'd like to see TB aim higher. Baker feels more like high-end backup (ala Trubisky) than guy you really want as a starter. That said Trask wasn't able to beat out Gabbert, so Mayfield is probably a long shot for him if he ends up in TB.

Who would you want TB to target? I mentioned Lamar elsewhere but they seem to have cap issues making that work. Otherwise maybe trask in a rebuild? Their options seem limited unless they traded for Stafford or something like that - which seems short sighted.

I personally think Jacoby Brissett is being crazy underrated. I like him more than Daniel Jones or Derek Carr for the money. He's at least not a liability, which I can't really say about Mayfield's play recently. I was a Mayfield defender going into last season, but man, he was as bad as anyone, until he got to the Rams, where he still wasn't good, but at least looked competent.

Ideally Tampa trades up for a rookie or ends up with maybe Tanner McKee on day 2. If they are playing the waiting game and shooting for 2024 (which their offseason moves haven't really suggested) for Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, then I'd think just roll with Trask.

You are right that their cap issues seem prohibitive vis a vis Lamer, and Stafford feels like too big of a risk health wise to me.

Baker is not the answer regardless of who asks the question. Liabilities at QB are not easily overcome. Just review J Winston at Tampa pre- TB12 years.
Yards galore. But TO’s every other series?
Baker is nothing but 3 & Out or TO.
