ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Baker Mayfield would start on Thursday night against the Raiders if John Wolford (neck) is unable to play.
It's sounding more and more like the Rams could actually roll with Mayfield on Thursday after the team claimed him off waivers late Tuesday afternoon. Despite being with the team for less than 48 hours, Mayfield appears to have already jumped Bryce Perkins on the depth chart and will enter the day as the QB2 if he's not named the starter. Quarterback John Wolford is dealing with a neck injury and enters Thursday night's game with a questionable tag. He's expected to go through pregame warmups and see how he feels before the Rams make a decision on whether or not to start him against the Raiders. Fantasy managers should look to avoid this situation regardless of Mayfield's status tonight.

That would never happen while he was in Cleveland or Carolina

How irrelevant is the guy that he hits the field in days on a Primetime game and his thread is on page two.
Did they even have a chance to grab him? Didn't the Rams claim him on waivers? How irrelevant is the guy that he hits the field in days on a Primetime game and his thread is on page two.
He’s better than Mr.Irrelevant and he’s gonna make the 49ers pay for not grabbing him![]()

Deshuan Watson hasn't played in over 700 days, looked terrible but is 1-0 but the big difference between Deshuan and Baker is they will both revert back to the mean of how we've seen them play.
In the history of the NFL has a starting QB successfully demanded a trade then successfully demanded to be released and then got a shot to start a game with his third team all within a 5 month period?
He took a $7 million dollar pay cut to force his trade and he won't make that back.
I hope he does well because he can do amazing things when he's motivated but the Rams are not positioned for success.
Lack of draft picks equates to no cheap rookie contracts, so they are over the cap to the point they had to dump Von Miller. That hurt but they suffered injuries and how have to rebuild the offensive line. Aaron Donald has openly talked about retirement; they can't keep him under his current contract. Jalen Ramsey is unaffordable and is gone after this year. Stafford's massive contract is a problem at least for another year. Some following the team think newly married Sean McVay may decide to leave while on top to raise a family instead of dealing with all the problems.
It is good to see Baker having success, but we've seen this before and... we've seen.
We'll see how it turns out.

I agree with everything except trying to low-ball Baker.Stafford is getting old, has been banged up many times over the years, was having a terrible season before the injuries. Now with his wife complaining about the head injuries she might want him to retire. Dude has made a ton of money and with the Rams in cap hell and heading towards a rebuild it might be the time.
Rams could sign Baker to a lowball deal as nobody else wants him and start over.
Baker Mayfield completed 12-of-21 passes for 111 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the Rams' 24-12, Week 14 loss to the Packers.
Mayfield made some strong throws, but his decision-making issues continued to pop up in this game. The worst of them was a risky throw while under pressure that Packers linebacker Quay Walker nearly turned into a pick-six. Walker couldn't corral the pass but had nothing but green grass ahead of him. Mayfield also took five sacks, some of which could have been avoided by throwing the ball away. He did manage his second touchdown as a Ram. This one was an end zone strike to Tyler Higbee. After two weak fantasy outings in LA, Baker will rank as a QB3 in a difficult matchup with the Broncos next week.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports the Saints have interest in free agent QB Baker Mayfield.
The Saints were high on Mayfield ahead of the 2018 draft and may have to settle on him if they miss out on Derek Carr. Re-signing with the Rams remains in play for Mayfield and he's been linked as a fallback option for the Ravens, who hired Mayfield's ex-OC Todd Monken. Teams are viewing Mayfield as a higher upside bridge than free agent Jimmy Garoppolo after a late season surge with the Rams. Mayfield's 2023 landing spot will be tied to what happens with Carr and Lamar Jackson this offseason.

Who would you want TB to target? I mentioned Lamar elsewhere but they seem to have cap issues making that work. Otherwise maybe trask in a rebuild? Their options seem limited unless they traded for Stafford or something like that - which seems short sighted. Its interesting that it seems like Mayfield's market is bigger going into 2023 than 2022, considering how awful he was in Carolina. I know its FA vs trade, but its still a bit surprising.
You'd like to see TB aim higher. Baker feels more like high-end backup (ala Trubisky) than guy you really want as a starter. That said Trask wasn't able to beat out Gabbert, so Mayfield is probably a long shot for him if he ends up in TB.
I personally think Jacoby Brissett is being crazy underrated. I like him more than Daniel Jones or Derek Carr for the money. He's at least not a liability, which I can't really say about Mayfield's play recently. I was a Mayfield defender going into last season, but man, he was as bad as anyone, until he got to the Rams, where he still wasn't good, but at least looked competent.Who would you want TB to target?
